Most people (particularly Aussies, where the brand originates) think of Speedos as "budgie smugglers" aka bikini briefs. But they do make longer swim shorts - my hubby owns a pair. They just aren't marketed as a key part of their brand.

Trites is very tall (6’7”) and is most likely overweight, although it is a possibility that he may have lost weight in an effort to alter his appearance. He usually wears some type of facial hair, but may have shaved both his face and head in order to alter his appearance.

According to this article, he may have fled to Trinidad or the Bahamas. But what if after 10 years he came back? It’s a long shot but anything is possible.

Trites would have been 48 in 2009 which is outside of the 25-40 age range, plus he’s 6’7 not 6’9. I don’t feel confident about this suggestion. The nose and ears and well the entire face doesn’t fully match this John Doe in my opinion.

But I thought I’d suggest him because you never know.

I seem to recall a lot of swimmers are hairless. But that would be the full leg no?

Maybe no one reported him missing because of his abusive history?

The article says he was in Trinidad from May-Oct 1998. They used that in Feb of 1999 to issue an a federal Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution warrant. So it looks like he did come back?

Maybe he gained weight in order to disguise his original appearance. Or maybe he gained weight because he wasn't able to swim regularly? I was thinking that maybe they didn't get a good reconstruction due to "water damage" but he was only in there for a few hours.

Not a bad suggestion, imo - you never know!

This case has interested me for a while now.
Just a personal anecdote, I have an uncle who's an inch shorter than this man and probably a similar weight. Born and raised in the US, although he does have Scandinavian ancestry, and his mom is 6 feet tall. He was never a star athlete, bodybuilder, or anything of the sort, if anything he's clumsier than average. He's a normal guy, just REALLY tall. I highly doubt that the UID lived a remarkable life due to his height, although it would definitely make him stand out.

What about Darryl Dubitski? Dubitski is a Slavic name, and there's been some famous Doe cases from Canada. Bitter Creek Betty is another case where it turned out to be a woman from Edmonton.

Eye colour and age aren't a match for Joseph Criner according to the Namus linked page.
Robert Taylor also described with blue eyes where JD had brown, although RT eyes do look brown to me in that photo.

Also agree he might be from out of the country. Also, important to note that in real life, standing measurement, he could have been shorter. Weight and gravity, muscles, etc can create a shorter standing/live height.

Looks like Lutts was found in Toronto!

I was looking at this man’s photos and wondered where I had seen someone who looked like him before. Then it hit me, a young Curly Joe DeRita! Not saying that this enormous gent was Curly Joe, who was born in 1909 and looks to have been a foot shorter, just saying there is a resemblance. Maybe an ethnic resemblance. Curly Joe, whose real name was Joseph Wardell, was born in Philadelphia of French Canadian descent.
Maybe this doe was from Quebec. I have no idea how closely Florida and Quebec cooperate on UID cases.
