I think she did know it was creepy and did tell others. As for reporting from her and others we don’t know. And we don’t know that it would have helped. I’ve had creepy behaviour in my past that I didn’t report for various reasons. What became of those people I don’t know…
The POI sounds good extremely predatory to me from that we’ve heard. Just MOO. We don’t know his past though.
To me this is a super scary case where literally IMO I feel at a loss as how to protect women from someone like this. It’s very sad and very scary.
I think because i'm old I can say for sure hindsight 20/20. I probably myself back in the day did the 'let him down gently' thing. But you know, I didn't have cellphone, social media, all that stuff that makes people so accessible today. It's such a scary world and I feel like we see this all the time.

the sad part is, the reason most of us older gals "let them down gently" was because we were scared of their reaction, and we should have been and should be today sadly.

Wasn't there was a similar case involving a leasing agent years ago?

I remember the 2015 Orlando murder of Sasha Samsudean by Stephen Duxbury, a security guard at her Orlando apartment. He was sentenced to life in prison.

"Duxbury had been working security for five months at the Uptown Place Apartments in Orlando, where Samsudean lived. Police found the 27-year-old woman dead in her apartment on Oct. 17, 2015.

Samsudean’s body was wrapped in a comforter on her bed. There were marks around her neck. A cleaning product that smelled of bleach had been dumped on parts of her body in an attempt to destroy evidence. An autopsy determined she was strangled.

A friend had last seen Samsudean about 12:30 a.m. Oct. 17, 2015, at the Attic Bar in Orlando. Samsudean’s friends became concerned when they could not reach her later that day and called police about 8 p.m.

Security camera footage showed Duxbury following Samsudean, who appeared to be intoxicated, inside the building earlier that day.

Duxbury denied to police ever entering Samsudean’s apartment. But investigators found Duxbury’s thumb print on Samsudean’s toilet.

He claimed he had seen her with a man inside the building but he could not provide enough details for a composite sketch of the man.

And police noticed that Duxbury had some abrasions on his arms, including one that looked like a bite mark. They said those were from Samsudean as she struggled for her life.

Duxbury also failed a polygraph test and gave police a different pair of shoes than the one’s he had been wearing that night.

“Instead of getting her safely into her apartment as he was employed to do, he used his position to his advantage in order to enter her apartment, sexually batter her and then strangled her,” an Orlando Police affidavit said.

So many cautionary tales for young girls out there...if it feels creepy -it's creepy. Report, report, report. . . even if you have to go 10 times. Sadly too many girls out there come to this. Wasn't there was a similar case involving a leasing agent years ago? It makes me wonder why 'master key's and what not are even allowed, especially in housing like this. There has to be a better way. MOO

Even if you report, there is little guarantee anything will come of it - except something that is on record. I had a friend try to get a restraining order against an abusive boyfriend, only to have him completely deny it in front of the judge and nothing come out of it. It sounds like she did let family know about what was going on.

Rather than place the responsibility on the victim in this case - what is being done to prevent things like this from happening? Where is the culpability of a culture that encourages men to ignore boundaries and feel entitled to romantic partners? Where is the awareness for monitoring for such behaviors and for encouraging mental health access to rehabilitate?

There was a 17 year old female murdered in Mass. in 2011 by an ex-boyfriend they couldn’t take no for an answer. Lauren Astley. Such a sad story. She went to see him as his mom asked her to because he was so upset and he murdered her. Her father is such a compassionate, wonderful man and he and her mother started this foundation:
About Lauren | Lauren Dunne Astley Memorial Fund
The idea of it is to start in middle and high school educating teens and kids about healthy relationships so these senseless crimes can maybe be prevented in some way!

I wonder if he had an ex-girlfriend who lived in the complex where he hanged himself. If not, then why go there? Perhaps it was because he knew that garage had a beam that he could use. I'm hoping it was because she is near there. The reality is that she could be just about anywhere. Not far away from there is Deltona, and a mother and two children have never been found after they were killed by her ex.

I read somewhere that he used to live or work at that complex.
Yes… that was a horrible case out of Deltona. So, so sad.

This is my first post. I just read all of the comments and I must say I'm impressed with y'all's dedication. So, I signed up to make a comment regarding the video that shows the POI carrying what was reported to be what is believed to be Miya's pink blanket on Saturday morning. The location of the video is from the San Jose Apartments, San Jose Circle, Winter Park. If you google it, you will see a photo of the apartment complex that matches what is seen in the video. A lot of people were asking who took the video. WESH news says the video was given to them. There is another video out there with one of the girl's relatives who said she had a conversation with the POI on Saturday morning. I'm putting two and two together and I'm thinking the family figured out where he lived and took the video of the POI on Saturday morning. I don't know where the POI lived and can't find proof he lived at the San Jose Apartments on San Jose Circle in Winter Park. If the POI didn't live there, then what was he doing there and why is he holding blue gloves, a pink blanket and a black backpack? This could help determine Miya's location. Here's the video: https://twitter.com/SenaitTV/status/1442676696411410432?s=20

Oh wow! That makes sense. Wow then if the police didn’t figure this out first. The family is not happy with the police and I thought it was maybe because the POI wasn’t named right away for the public to be on the lookout but this could be a reason why too.
Welcome SleuthWren and great detective work!

There were but certainly nothing that Miya did wrong.
Of course not! Not what I meant, I was thinking more of the actions he took with other woman/apartments and I would hope complaints that should have given the Apt Complex Management cause for dismissal. IMO

Ok! Thank you for clarifying. Sorry - I’m on edge with this one!

i wonder if police have already requested a warrant for his phone records & location?? Who was the last person he talked to?? where is caballeros friends & family?? I’ve searched all over social media to find something and can’t. Nobody is defending him??? (Not that EYE think he deserves it but my mind is wondering)

Unfortunately, I don’t think she is alive. unless this is a case of sex trafficking, or there was another person working w caballero who might still be holding her hostage… which I don’t think is unlikely.

my theory is that he knew she was going out of town that evening, maybe even offered to take her to the airport. even though she was not interested in him romantically, we still don’t know how cordial they were… I “THINK” she could have accepted, and agreed he could wait in her place until she got off work. while she was preparing, he tried to make a move on her and she rejected. out of rage, he got physical, they got into an altercation, and then possibly raped her then strangled her to death. waited until dark to move the body… my only hope is that he didn’t dispose of her in a neighborhood garbage bins but most likely she is close to where he killed himself. I pray to God I’m wrong but these fatal attraction-crimes of passion are almost all the same.

I still have so many more questions though. Was there blood in his car? Defensive wounds on his body? I don’t know miya, but I feel so connected to her. We live in the same area, Taurus women, young college students, island girls, carnivalistas, we frequent the same places in Orlando so I probably have met her before. Im going to help with the search if it continues tomorrow. If she is still with us, I pray she keeps fighting!

Hi sweetbabyg and welcome! Great insights and questions. I wondered another his family and friends as well. He went to Colonial High School so he grew up there.
I’m from the same area and this one is touching me hard too.
Thank you for helping her and her family!

I hope anyone reading here is calling in your tips to Orange County sheriffs office - especially if you suspect where she may have been held.

on a personal note - ordered ring cameras for my single relatives since we now know maintenance employees may have the master key for their apartments. Sigh ..
