FL FL - search for caregivers of 1-week-old baby boy found in a car seat in residential driveway on Lido St near Executive Airport, Orlando, 28 Jul 2025

Someone cared enough about this baby to get them a car seat.

Yes, I think the baby is loved. I think the mom was just desperate.

I wonder if the person leaving the baby had been watching the house. Thus, they knew the baby would be found quickly based on the routine of the residents. Man leaves for work every day at…. Kinda thing.

So the baby was found in a car seat, but not in a car? No one in the house knows who the baby belongs to?
The way it's worded tells me there was no car. Since they found him the driveway, I'd think they'd say something along the lines of "Someone left a car in our driveway and we saw a baby in a car seat when we looked inside". Instead the man taking out the garbage saw a baby, in their driveway, in his car seat.

A man who lives in the neighborhood, Alberto, told WESH 2 it was his roommate who found the baby in their driveway.

He said the man was taking out the trash when he found the boy in his car seat.

-------------------------------------------------
Another thing to note...

Alberto believes there's a witness who saw everything, including a woman running away after leaving the baby there.

The information has not been confirmed.

Unless the baby wasn't born in a hospital, it's a requirement to have a car seat in order to leave the hospital with the infant.
  • When your child is born, you must have a car seat to bring the baby home from the hospital.

A 19-year-old woman was arrested Friday on a charge of child neglect after her newborn was found abandoned earlier this week in the driveway of an Orlando home, police said.

Angelica Sanchez Bautista, 19, was taken into custody by the Fugitive Investigative Unit on Friday and charged with child neglect, according to the Orlando Police Department.

A department spokesperson said there's no evidence suggesting the child’s father knew about the mother’s actions. No further details have been released.

Angelica Sanchez Bautista, was arrested on Friday by the Fugitive Investigative Unit. She is currently detained by ICE.

While we do not know the legal status of the child’s father, Orlando Police say he was not aware of the mother’s actions. WESH 2 talked with legal experts about how this case could be handled if Bautista is deported.

"Obviously her baby was born in the United States and is a U.S. citizen," Federal and State Criminal Defense Attorney David Haas said. "She will be given a choice or not if she wants to take her baby with her.

If so, it's the second case this week. The other case has another thread, in which the baby was left in someone's yard (I think it may have been an older baby) and the mother, father, grandmother and another person (a young uncle?) were dead.

The criminal was caught. Is a meth head.

IIRC. The mystery is why the perp saved the baby.

I feel like this mother truly tried to leave her baby in a place where he would get to safety. As an immigrant, she maybe/likely did not speak much English at all, and possibly had never heard of the Safe Haven Law in FL. Who knows what the circumstances were considering the baby's conception, her pregnancy, and her support in this country. I hope everyone involved ends up in a better and happier spot after this, though I worry about the trauma of a mother and newborn being separated out of desperation.

Some perps have no issues taking out an adult that's perceived as a threat, or perceived as "deserving" some sort of retribution (not speaking to any particular case, just generally). But they will not harm a small child too young to be a credible witness. And a baby? No, a baby being intetionally harmed would be extremely rare.

It is interesting to me that they are already talking about handing the newborn back to her.

The didn't say they are looking into giving custody to the baby's father. It doesn't say she "might" have custody returned.

It says, "She will be given a choice or not if she wants to take her baby with her." (Four posts above)

Interesting.

Interesting.

I don't believe that the attorney's opinion is official policy. WESH asked a criminal defense attorney for his opinion, and that was what he said.
Maybe he is right, maybe not. We'll have to wait to see what the official government position is.

The mother put the baby's life in danger, and I would be surprised if that wasn't taken into consideration before they would hand the baby over to her. The article also said that they are not yet sure of the status of the father. We'll probably be hearing something official soon.

If ICE is involved could it be that she thought that abandoning her child would avoid him being deported with her? She might not been aware that she could have left the baby in a fire station, church, etc.

The mom likely left the baby so that the baby had a chance at a life in USA, as citizen. She likely realized she herself could be deported, and her uncertain situation is not what she wanted for her child. She made a heart-wrenching decision.

And now they are forcing her to make a heart-wrenching decision again. Very sad situation.

Quote!. While we do not know the legal status of the child’s father, Orlando Police say he was not aware of the mother’s actions. ..

I gather from that then the father was not part of the life of mother and the baby. Or surely he would have wondered where is their baby and subsequently asked Angelica outright.

MOO: Given the age of the baby, I wonder if he even knew the baby had been born.

So the US will let the child go with the deported mother even though the mother is facing child neglect charges?

The baby seems at least initially wanted, or expected anyway, if the parent(s) had purchased a car seat. I worry that a parent has been harmed and the baby then abandoned in a safe place.

In many places, parents can't leave the hospital with a baby if they don't have a car seat.

This is so incredibly sad. She didn't harm the baby. My word.

We don't know that she's undocumented. ICE hasn't just been detaining undocumented individuals. But let's say she is for the sake of argument. I agree with your post that she might have done this to avoid the baby being not only deported, but possibly detained along with her (or separated). Perhaps she knows this family or knows of them. Perhaps she's in hiding due to her immigration status. Perhaps she had the baby with her until 10 minutes before she knew the family in that house would leave for work and she left the baby there while watching from the bushes? Who knows. There are a lot of facts missing in this case. But I just hate hate hate that ICE is immediately involved in a situation like this.

MOO.
