I understand some people thought Jarred Harrell never stood a chance to end up anything but a perv given his upbringing.

But then what is the "excuse" for all the others we have read about lately?

They all can't have mothers who let the stepdad marry their daughters, can they?

FL teacher arrested on child 🤬🤬🤬🤬
God only knows this sickness in society, it is just unreal. Many have been victims of child sexual abuse, not the same as J.H., a lot of weird cults marry very young females, and we have all heard those stories, and priests molesting children, other people in positions of authority over children, day care centres too, and the list goes on! Just so sad and so sick!.:furious:

As far as JH moms comments re: "the little girls mother isn't saying anything", i do think she was referring to DT and not the child he videotaped and molested. I just think this because from what we know the child appears to be a close family member, and if she was talking about that mom, I think she would have used a name or more personal phrase then "the little girls mother"

My guess is it meant DT was not coming out and saying anything about her thinking that JH is the man responsible for her daughter's death. Also DT's lawyer had put out the statement that DT would not be making any announcements until when and if JH was charged, and no doubt Annis would be reading all the articles about Somer at the time when her son was named a POI. So possibly she was referring to that.
I do remember Deina Thompson saying about not getting her hopes up initially when J.H was arrested.

BBM

I thought she might be protecting the relative/the child.

That's why I wondered when the family was shown the photos of the little girl and identified her.

If the family was shown the photos before this conversation, then I think she could have been referring to Diena or the child's mother.

If the family was shown the photos after this conversation then I think she must have meant Diena.

I think it was in one of the arrest warrants that it talked about the little girl being identified by her mom. Maybe it included a date. Source: http://download.gannett.edgesuite.net/wtlv/docs/022610_harrell1.pdf

I'll dig around a bit in a few minutes. When they found the pictures/video on the SD card, I don't know if they went right to AD and other relatives and said "Do you know this child?"

JH was arrested on Feb. 11.
The convo took place a few days after (~Feb. 16 but before Feb. 23 when he was transported to CC)
The charges were filed ~ February 24 (he was in CC by then).

(just trying to keep the time line straight in my head)

I'm only gonna say this one time - NO BASHING SOMER'S MOM!!! We have a suspect and he has been charged and is headed to trial. THERE IS NO REASON TO BASH SOMER'S MOM. Basically what I am setting out here is a 0 tolerance policy.

If you don't agree with her parenting style - you can say so, but say it respectfully! If you don't agree with the way she dresses, wears her lipstick or combs her hair - KEEP IT TO YOURSELF!

Somer's parents are victims in this tragedy and that should be remembered first and foremost.

If you have any questions, let me or one of the mods know!

I can't wait for the trial to find out what they were looking for in that yard where the shed used to be.

We may find out a lot about those kind of things before trial. Look how much we've seen in CA case already due to the sunshine law.

I think as soon as the defense requests what the state has on JH, the discovery will be public knowledge and a media outlet can request it and report on it. If I understand the law right.

I hope that DT can rally enough support to get our government on the ball. Get a task force to help figure out how to stop these monsters. JH is an evil monster. He is one of many.I really think she has a way of getting people to listen & really has a good chance of bringing change to how we deal with, recognize & getting new laws passed to stop these evil evil sick MONSTERS.

I was not sure that Diena was running the Foundation, but rather that she ok'd the use of Somer's name.

Do you know where I can find more info? TIA

Mr. Freed did not respond to my email (yet). (ETA: I remain ever hopeful.)

Agreed, but we live in a country that guarantees everyone a fair (ha!) trial.

They will go through the motions.

Lawyers will make their money, media will get their share, politicians will win elections based on their part in the case... everyone knows what will happen at the end.

Now... defense is speaking about change of venue.

Where in the state could a jury be seated that isn't aware of the case?

  • #292
The change of venue thing will be rough IMO. Because as you say Lipin, it will be hard to find anywhere in FL that is not aware of this. I think it will be hard to find anywhere in America that has not heard some details of this case.

But, IMO the evidence is the evidence. If they have what the sheriff says they have, it should be cut and dry. But, I know he has a right to go before an impartial jury. That may be a huge problem.

I pray justice is served and JH goes down hard for what he did to Somer.

New1, can you back up your quotes of DT please? You have chopped them up and left out words from what I can find. Why did you do that?

I can understand you using facetiousness to get your point across but I think misquoting a grieving mother is taking it to far.

http://law.justia.com/florida/codes/TitleVI/ch0047.html

Here is a link to info on Change of Venue in FL.

IIRC, it is expensive to move a trial, and there are alternatives like bringing jurors in from another county/state. With as little information as has been released to the public, I don't think the change of venue is justified.

While "everyone" in Florida knows about the kidnapping and murder of Somer Renee Thompson -- but as far as the facts of the case -- not much of those are known by the public.

Maybe that is what the CCSO was trying to avoid -- the defendant whoever he/she would be -- applying for and getting a change of venue.

Sadly, Doc ... I don't think she misquoted her.

  • #296
Do you have the link for that video?

I saw it in print in FCN but did not hear it in the two videos I watched.

  • #297
The grief has been so intense she wanted to get rid of Somer's things, but she was advised not to, so she packed them away for now.

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=151510&catid=3

Now compare that to what New1 says, she says is a quote:

(5) "I wanted to get rid of her things, but I was advised not to, so I packed them away for now.

Then New1 goes on and says this is a quote from the grieving mother.

(4) "I was disappointed with the lock of her hair they gave me. It seemed dirty."

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/video...Diena,+Speaks+to+First+Coast+News/64575026001

If you watch the video around the 1 minute mark you will hear DT say this:

"Well the lock of hair wasn't what I was expecting, it's not that much and it looks dirty to me."

I mean come on, the grieving mom could not see her daughter's remains and was promised something that turned out not to be what she expected. She was upset about it and there is nothing wrong with that.

When you watch the video you can see the pain in DT when she is talking about this. The pain is probably not only having to think about the death of Somer again but she is probably wondering why this was such a small piece of hair, did something happen to the rest of it and the dirt would just remind her that her child was thrown in a dumpster.

New1's "quotes" are far from what was said.

I could, but I won't. I respectfully decline response to any of your posts.

Sorry Doc, I don't think you are gonna hear from New1, lol. I think your chastising New1 has frightened em off.

If you are reading New1. I fully understand the point you were trying to make and agree with you, I have found nothing suspect in the way DT has comported herself and I totally understand your want to respond to those who would post negative things about her.

Please know that the moderators are here to take those sorts of posters to task and that you do not need to.

Please also know that Dr.Fessel is not trying to "call you out" or discourage folks from posting but here at WS we try very very hard to be as accurate as is humanly possible.

So, in future, if you are quoting someone, be exact with their wording. If you want to paraphrase that is okay, but make sure you state that for the record. Same with if you are summarizing, or giving the jist of someone's comment.

Don't be discouraged New1

  • #300
I don't think New was that far off. But what she did was paraphrased, not direct quotes.

Regardless, I don't know what Diena's statements have to do with Somer's abduction and murder (the topic of this forum). What it has to do with is something we're not supposed to talk about. Certain skills.

"No one has been cleared of suspicion of this crime until we arrest a suspect," Sheriff Beseler said.
