FL - Tracey Nix, two of her grandchildren died in her care in separate incidents (7mo in hot car Nov '22 & 16mo drowned Dec '21)

Do we know if they testified about her state of mind or actions during their lunch the day her granddaughter died?
They did discuss her 100% attentive care of Uriel including holding her. The ladies are life long friends and I would expect nothing less.

I wonder if the friends she had lunch with testified as to how she was around them?
they did...a parade of the church ladies (at lunch) all saying she is the most devoted grandmother. they are all in the gallery.

I wanted to see if I could find an actual trial video of the friends testifying. I only was able to find fast news report glimpses of the friends. I wanted to see their testimonies. I'd like to see the video(s) that the Prosecution showed of the lunch.

‘Trapped in a hot car’: grandmother’s 3rd day of trial begins in death of infant granddaughter

The state also called longtime friends and fellow retired teachers who had spent the morning and early afternoon with Nix.

After attending a bible study together, Nix picked up Uriel then went to lunch with three friends at Beef ‘o’ Brady’s.

“She was very kind, very loving. She had placed Uri in the seat and, of course, the baby kept sliding out and that’s when she picked her up and was holding her,” said Gayle Knight.

“We were all getting a kick out of her giving the child something to drink from a straw which for a little one you can’t really do that,” said Brenda Knight.

After lunch, Nix went home with her granddaughter...

So she left the restaurant at about 1:40pm, because one of her friends had to pick up a child from school and had to be in line at 1:50. She said that's how she was sure about the time they left. And Tracey went on home with the baby by herself. Then she remembered the baby was still in the car when her grandson got there. Not sure when that was. Trying to see how long the baby was actually in the car forgotten.

Did anyone ever ask her if the baby was asleep on the way home, or if she made any noises or anything on the way back? She must have been asleep or just a very quiet baby. Seems like she forgot she had the baby in the car almost as soon as she started driving home. I forget how far her house is from that restaurant, but it wasn't a long drive at all.
Just hard to believe that can ever happen.

...Just hard to believe that can ever happen.

Sadly, it seems to happen quite often. I know, I say the same thing you did. It seems impossible to forget a child in your vehicle, but it's become too common. I especially get angry if the person does it knowingly to go shop in a store.

This Dr. Diamond is some kind of expert on children dying in hot car because the driver forgets the quiet child is in the back seat. (at the 7:09:00 mark on video) He says hundreds of children have died, about 800 deaths since air bags were put in cars and children were put in the back seat being forgotten back there. Too many, and it's not that uncommon is what he was trying to stress.

Dr. David Diamond, who evaluated Tracey Nix, was not permitted to testify in front of the jury during her manslaughter trial. (1/16/25) Listen to him here:

I have gone back to Law and Crime which is where I watched the trial...it was only two days more or less and for some odd reason I cannot find a play back of those two days. I don't know why. Each witness was really short but there were I think 3 ladies that were at lunch and on the stand. Court TV covered this too...again only snippets from Local TV. It was such a weird trial that I would love to watch some of it again but no luck

Do you have any link? Who is saying she might've gotten back in the car that afternoon and not noticed the child? That is a wild accusation, now turning into a rumor with no evidence, and I wonder where it's coming from.

There are so many stories going round out there about both Ezra and Uriel and their death and cause that unless I heard it in court I am not trusting any report.

no links ...lots of local media coverage online and many have differing accounts. I did see the doctors and experts testifying about all the prescribed drugs so I know that to be true. Her husband got her to in patient evaluation after the second death as she could not even discuss it...again that was reported in many local media sites..enough to think it is true. Another rumor out there was daughter chose to not press charges after Ezra's death...not the case at all per most reports now that there was not enough evidence to charge anyone and dad was involved in care that day too.

I've been struggling to understand the conditions surrounding two very sad events and Tracey's role in them happening. I have a lot of unanswered questions and feel there were testimonies left out at trial, as well as details swept under the carpet.

The day of the 2nd child dying, Tracey had been providing childcare that day, and later the other daughter was dropping off her son, she said the boy was going to "go out of town" with Tracey. So, family didn't seem worried about her capabilities or notice any questionable issues with her performance.

One sad, sad tragedy struck. Sometime later, then another childcare horrible tragedy struck. Suddenly, all the drugs Tracey was taking per prescriptions became an issue, but surely the family knew she took those Rx's and might've noticed any effects. Not only that, but her memory and clarity had been an issue at her employment as a teacher. Wasn't she terminated due to memory and clarity issues?

Somehow, she's kind of been blamed for the first boy's death when maybe it never would've happened perhaps if her spouse hadn't decided to leave to run errands? The second tragedy death is what was decided by the Jury as "culpable negligence", not with intent to harm, and I agree with their decision. However, this is all MOO, why is Tracey the only one to have to admit ownership and accountability? Is she a scapegoat for others overlooking or not seeing questionable behaviors or capabilities?

The first post on the thread:

The court filing says that Nix was waiting for her older grandson to arrive so they could go out to dinner. After 4:30 p.m., she took two cups of tea out to her vehicle for her and her grandson and then drove the vehicle to her backyard. Authorities said Nix's husband was in the backyard and the two talked for about 10 minutes, the documents state.

When the grandson arrived, Nix said all of a sudden it "came across her head" that Uriel was still in the car, the documents state. Nix's husband immediately pulled the baby out and began CPR while someone called 911.

The first post on the thread:

Thank You @Lilibet. Very helpful info. People were asking about the length of time the little girl was left in the car. Oh dear, it was so long. She did move the car. It's not a rumor. Thanks again.

They left the restaurant around 1:40 p.m......Nix said she drove about 10 minutes to her home, parked the car and went inside to talk to her dog and practice the piano.....After 4:30 p.m., she took two cups of tea out to her vehicle for her and her grandson and then drove the vehicle to her backyard.

Found this while looking for a song. It figures. I didn't find it when I looked so hard. This is Tracey Nix's friend's testimony in court at the trial. She was a teacher for 38 yrs.

Brenda Knight was sitting just behind the daughter Kaila and the stares and looks that she was giving to her were really disturbing. I don't have a link but saw that with my own eyes and assume many did. She as well as the other lunch ladie's description of Tracey and her attentiveness to Uriel is so crazy in light of her actions shortly thereafter and many hours forgetting she had the child.

It is probably not relevant but I noted at least Brenda Knight never called Tracey a friend...but rather cited all the contacts they had. As I recall same with the others...no attorney asked anything other than about her interaction with Uriel ...nothing about during their other interactions did she often seem unfocused, forget things etc. Strange case as no one seemed to want to deal with her personality and how she seemed. These people saw her often but not necessarily one on one but still would notice something? YOu would think.

I was shocked when I read this was the second grandchild to die in Tracey's care, the story seems so unreal. If I understand correctly, both were her daughter Kaila Nix's children? There were no charges filed in 2021 when 16 month old Ezra died by drowning in a pond.

Sadly, Kaila must have trusted Tracey and considered Ezra's death to be forgivable. I think I could forgive, but never, ever, trust again. Certainly never allow the child to be cared for alone, even if it was my own Mom. This is such a heartbreaking tragedy.

In April it will be interesting to see if State will be able to use the first death to argue a more severe sentence? And there will be a long parade of church and school people who will be there for mitigation. That photo of Uriel above is haunting. So tragic.
