GUILTY FL - Wayne Treacy for savage beating of 15yo girl, Deerfield Beach, 17 March 2010

I don't know what she is afraid of, I can't find any information on this case. I thought Mum was already the word. I am glad we are more concerned with the victims rights around here.

I don't think KM had time to give Josie back the phone - not at the time she pointed her out. KM didn't even walk over to Josie - just pointed - Treacy took it from there. No, IF KM sent any messages - she did it and then gave the phone back to Josie before Treacy got there.

Maybe Josie started with Treacy - KM walks up, takes the phone and has a "tit for tat" message game with Treacy, then hands Josie back the phone - Treacy then starts going after Josie, getting pretty nasty - KM tells Josie "something" about Treacy's brother and Josie took it from there.

I'm not real sure that Josie didn't send the message. IT DOESN'T MATTER! But, knowing that fact helps us "sleuth" out what went down and how.

KM knew Treacy was "enraged". He tried to attack the wrong girl - until KM told him that it wasn't Josie. KM knew - first hand - eye contact - in person - with Treacy to see the rage he was exhibiting! Whether KM had any involvement in the messaging, we don't know.

Regardless of who sent the "disparaging" message to Treacy - doesn't matter. He belongs behind bars - for a long, long time. If it hadn't been Josie - if things would have gone differently - you can bet, it would have been someone else. One of his buddies or the next person that "crossed him".

O/T - We have a trial that started here today. A 27 yr old middle school teacher starved her two cats to death. She abandoned her apartment with the cats inside. Moved into her new boyfriend's - went on vaca down to the Keys, etc. - while those two poor kitties starved to death. Anyway, she is facing 20 years! YEP! 20 years. I don't think she'll get 20 - IMO 5 would be about right and the loss of her teaching license. Now, hearing that - someone starves two cats to death and faces 20 years - Treacy stomps poor Josie's head in and faces attempted murder - he should get 20 years (more in my opinion) - it will be interesting to see how it plays out - dontcha think?

Prayers for Josie and her family.

BBM

She had PLENTY of time to return the phone. After the supposed message about the brother was sent, Treacy sent numerous texts to other people telling them that he planned to kill Josie. He then rode a BIKE three miles to get to the school. More than enough time to hand back a phone so that Josie could go to wait on her bus, which is where she was when she was attacked. Several sources I have read said that the "friend" led Treacy directly to Josie, not just pointed him to her. They walked from one part of the school outside to a bus stop to find her.

Teen Beating Victim's Condition Worsens

Josie Ratley now has pneumonia and the left side of her brain shows damage

Updated 5:28 PM EDT, Wed, Mar 31, 2010

A press conference addressing the condition of Josie Ratley, the 15-year-old girl who was beaten into a coma by 15-year-old Wayne Treacy two weeks ago, was scheduled today at Broward Medical Center, where Ratley has been since the horrific after-school incident.

However, the Ratley attorney announced that Josie's mother, who was supposed to be in attendance, was physically and emotionally exhausted and wanted to be by her child's bedside.

Yesterday, Josie's condition was listed as critical yet stable, though a high fever prevented doctors from taking her out of a medically induced coma.

Today, however, it was announced that in addition to still being in a coma and not being able to breath on her own, she also has pneumonia and the left side of her brain is showing signs of damage.

Updated from the newspaper:

Lawyer: Ratley brain damaged in Deerfield Middle School assault
Beating victim still in coma, now with pneumonia

By Rafael A. Olmeda, Sun Sentinel

5:09 p.m. EDT, March 31, 2010
Deerfield Beach - Beating victim Josie Lou Ratley suffered brain damage, cannot breathe on her own, is fighting off pneumonia and will likely lose some use of the right side of her body, her family's lawyer said Wednesday.

Speaking at a news conference at Broward General Medical Center, attorney Rick Freedman said Ratley, 15, suffered damage to the left side of her brain and that she is on life support.

Deerfield Beach High School student Wayne Treacy, 15, faces attempted murder charges stemming from the March 17 assault on the campus of Deerfield Beach Middle School, where Ratley is an eighth-grader.

I was really hoping for some good news on Josie's condition and this does not sound good but I am keeping her in my prayers. If she were to die, I hope that Treacy's charges are upgraded to premeditated murder? JMO

I don't need Josie to be a perfect Angel in order to be outraged on her behalf. I don't feel compelled to debate whether KM sent the disparaging text or Josie herself did. Regardless, what that boy did was completely unjustified no matter who sent what message.

Prayers for Josie -Thought she had a lung issue when the first news of a fever was given. My prayers are for Josie to be able to get well, and at least cognitively, back to normal. Physical deficits can be worked with better than cognitive deficits. And, dear Lord, if she cannot get better than to be in a persistant vegetative state, please take her home. It would be so horrible for the family, but I have watched families deal with watching a shell of a loved one, day after day, with no quality of life. At the point that the person passes away the family is relieved that the suffering of their loved one is over. I pray that Josie does not end up in that limbo between the living and the dead - IMHO it is a fate worse than death. And, should she pass away, please state of Florida upgrade the charges to murder in the 1st degree, with premeditation.

Bumping, because I am still praying for Josie and I got very scared when I didn't see it on the front page. Do we have any news yet? How about a reminder of when Treacy goes back to court. I know the other young girl was being held for 21 days, right?

IIRC they changed the juvenile hold from 21 to 30 days and court date is April 6th.

Cannot find any updated news about Josie either.
Still praying for you honey. Its the season for a miracle.
