I'm so happy to finally see some good news about Josie, but I'm still very worried for her...

As far as idiot-boy and his 'remorse' goes, if he really felt bad he'd plead guilty and put himself at the mercy of the judge instead of dragging all of this out for poor Josie's family. :furious:

Honestly, I can buy the thirteen year old's concern, but for 🤬🤬🤬 to do what he did requires a Ted Bundy-esque 'cold rage' that has little to do with 'just snapping', and I'll breathe a sigh of relief when he's put away for a long, long time...

I have some questions about the Florida legal system if anyone can answer them (I have zero time for research lately):

1 - is it normal in FL for LE etc to release the identity of 13 year old's accused of crimes before they are charged as adults? As far as I knew, protecting the identities of Juvie offenders was standard practice nationwide...

2 - If Josie does end up with brain damage, is there any way that can be used to enhance the charges against idiot-boy? If not, are there any aggravating factors that can be added to attempted murder charges like in regular murder charges?

3 - How specific or vague are accessory laws in FL? IOW - the charges against the 13yo are worded such that even if she only thought that he intended to push Josie she'd still be guilty, which some states allow for accessory charges, whereas others require the accused to know much more specifically what was going to happen.

4 - Is the state allowed to attempt to try the two accused at the same trial?

TIA for any help here, I have some things on my mind here, but don't want to say anything until I have a better handle on the situation.

I don't think there is a law that prohibits press from releasing anyone's identity. Authorities don't release identities of juvenile suspects but if press finds out other way what is there to stop them from publishing it?

I'm not sure, but I do know that usually the press has a policy of not releasing the identities even if they do know, until they are charged as adults...I must say, I was rather disconcerted that Alyssa Bustamante was given that consideration while the 13yo here wasn't...

That said, in most states juvie courts don't allow pics etc of proceedings involving minors that aren't charged as adults, so again I found it very strange to see the footage of 13yo in court (15yo doesn't surprise me too much, as that is 'old enough' in some states)

It might be the policy, but it's their own policy, and if they don't want to follow it who is there to stop them?
Just like not naming alleged sexual abuse victims- press has a policy not to name the alleged victims-yet if the press decided to release the names there is no laws against that.

Never said they couldn't reveal identities if they wanted, though I would think that their lawyers would recomend that they follow LE's lead on this to avoid potential lawsuits from the minor, so I'm still thinking LE gave them the okay, and at the same time that still wouldn't explain the judge allowing cameras in the first court appearance - I'm just seeing a pattern of LE/DA/media behavior with this case that worries me in several different ways, and this is one of the points on the graph so to speak...I just want to see justice served, and it's sooo easy for a high profile case to blow up in LE/DA's faces if they don't handle themselves just right...not going any further into that though until I have more answers so I don't end up talking out of my butt.

My heart just breaks for her dear Mother. This is an ordeal no parent should have to endure.

Prayers are still flowing Josie for a miracle.
Just keep up the valiant fight.

The parents of Wayne Treacy were on the Today Show this morning to get his side of the story out there. I wish they had not gone on the show. Mom came off as broken and dad came off as angry. He said they were going to get to the bottom of what the girl said-like it was the victim's fault. Matt Laurer seemed lost with these people not getting what he did. Finally Matt got them to say he was sorry and wished he could go back to the time prior to his brother's death.

the today show should apologize for putting them on the air.

What?!? So they feel that there's a set of words that make this acceptable? Just where would they draw this imaginary line..."neener neener boo boo?" "Yo mama?" That just blows my mind.

Well their attitude is not surprising to me. Kids with a stable upbringing by decent parents don't tend to do things like this. Granted, sometimes kids with every advantage (two parent home, good upbringing, finacial security, etc etc) occassionally will "go rogue" and behave in a way that is completely abherent to their upbringing - but not often.

Sounds like the apple didn't fall far from the tree. He gets a hurtful text and reacts with unbelievable violence and anger. Mom and dad's child has committed a horrible, inexcusable act and they react with anger - at the victim, as if their poor son is the true victim. sigh. MOnkey see - monkey do. How many times did they say dad had been incarcerated? Wanna bet it was always someone else's fault? Just sayin

Here's a link to the video of the Today Show:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/br...oday-show-deerfield-video,0,2859593.htmlstory

After watching this all I have to say is:

pppfffttttt!

Mom apologizes to Josie's mom - says "she knows what she is going through" - NO SHE DOESN'T!!! And, in the same breath, not skipping a beat she goes on to apologize to Kayla's family - HUH? The accessory in this crime?

Oh please. here we go - nationwide media circuit to garner sympathy for this 🤬🤬🤬🤬. Mom says he was not a bully - step-dad saying he was well-liked in the neighborhood. I call that bet - he was only "well-liked" cause everyone wanted to stay on his good side.

As for Josie's condition. Haven't heard much. Mom went and thanked a group of bikers that held a fundraiser for her on Thurs or Fri - but Saturday night the local news said that Josie has had a rough couple of days. She is still off the ventilator but not conscious or responding to commands. It wasn't much - only about 2 - 3 minutes.

Prayers for Josie and her family.

Even if Josie lives she might never be the same as she were before this.
No apologies are gonna fix that.

When I saw the video, I heard the mother apologize to Kayla's family. I didn't think about that other girl being involved and thought, huh?, doesn't she even know her name? LOL That was just weird. Glad you guys made the connection for me. The dad's attitude, I thought, was totally in-your-face inappropriate. The boy did what he did and no amount of blaming the victim is going to fix it. I don't care who said what to whom, this poor girl was beaten nearly to death and will never be the same again, more than likely. I felt somewhat sorry for the mother, but I wanted to smack dad upside the head.
