GUILTY FL - Wayne Treacy for savage beating of 15yo girl, Deerfield Beach, 17 March 2010

I have read every article linked on this thread plus several dozen that have not been posted here. While I have seen the term derogatory used, I also know what that word means. The definition is NOT what is being implied by many. It means critical or perceived as disrespectful. There is STILL no proof who sent it, and STILL no justification for attempted murder in response to ANY kind of text message.

What exaclty is being implied by many? I've already repeated many times I couldn't care less what she had texted him, it does not justify anything.

Does not matter to me what was said but we don't know for sure who sent the text. K had time to use Josie's phone and return it to her at school.
Josie's Aunt said K did borrow Josie's phone from time to time. Until I see proof otherwise I will stand by what I think.

On Monday Ratley underwent a third surgery at Broward General Medical Center.

During the two hour and fifteen minute procedure, doctors replaced a section of the girl's skull which they had originally removed to help relieve pressure caused by the swelling of her brain after the attack. Ratley will be kept sedated Tuesday and begin rehabilitation on Wednesday.

Doctors had to remove part of her skull to relieve the swelling in her brain. It was that section that was reattached Monday, said Ratley family attorney Rick Freedman.

She was out of surgery late Monday afternoon and will need to remain heavily sedated for the next 24 to 48 hours, Freedman said.

Earlier in the day, Ratley, 15, shook her head "no" for the first time, another small but positive early sign of recovery, said Freedman. Monday's reconstructive surgery is largely cosmetic but still major, he said.

you know we see a lot of bad crimes and resulting deaths here at websleuths.

but imo, in the last 2 months we have seen 3 miracles.

josie surviving and even being out of the coma

amanda, a 2 year old, going from being on life support to going home in just 3 weeks.

nadia, lost in a swamp for 3 and a half days making it out alive.

here's hope for continued miracles here :)

I have to say that although we are all really pulling for Josie and wanting to know how she is doing, I think they need to stop showing videos of her in the hospital. I know that if it was me, I wouldn't want that in the news. It is a horrible invasion of her privacy and I question the necessity of having live video of her suffering and crying.

And lets add to that the Aunt who rescued her sister's children who were starving.

Praying Josie continues on her present path to recovery.

Thank you so much for saying this. I couldn't agree more.

I fear it is a lawyer thing, meant to make the case against the boy, but I think Josie's honor and wishes should come first.

At least, I can't imagine a girl her age (or my adult self) being ok with having that sort of thing published. It just seems to add salt to the wounds. :(

Let me say that I don't think her Mom is being a "media 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬" as she has been very reticent about interviews, etc. So, there must be some reason she is allowing this. I'm sure the lawyer has said it would help to raise more funds for her care, nonetheless I think there will come a point in time that Josie is going to be really upset about this.

i think she's allowing cameras in cause she is sick of people excusing this freak's actions. wants them to see what he did.

  • #455
I do believe the mother has an absolutely pure motive as she is clearly devoted to Josie. I'm just afraid Josie is going to freak out when she becomes aware of this and it may cause her some additional anxiety and self-consciousness. I am, in no way, being down on Mom as her actions have spoken louder than words. I am just concerned that she hasn't maybe thought of the effect this may have on Josie in the long run.

There but for the grace of God go you and I. I don't know what I'd do if someone did that to my child. I don't know how in God's name I'd make all the decisions I needed to make every day, without ever having had any preparation for such a horrifying tragedy in my life. I love my child and I would make the very best decisions I could while struggling and distracted by my worry and pain and trauma and grief. I know I wouldn't be perfect, but it would be my best, and I hope people would show me compassion.

So, I can see, clearly, that Josie's mom loves her very, very much, and I have full confidence that she is doing the very best she can. She's a great mom. I support her 100%.

Thanks BeanE, you put my thoughts about the mother much more clearly than I was able to. I think she is a wonderful mother and I believe she is doing a fabulous job. I just can see a little farther down the road than she can, in her situation, and I'm concerned. I find no fault with her at all. I do question the media though.

its just like this assumption that the victims need to hide in the shadows. i saw it with jaycee.........garrido gives a ranting raving psychotic interview the day he is arrested talking about his 'heartwarming story' and the media eats it up. 2 months later jaycee releases her first adult pics and she is supposed to be ashamed of herself for doing so. i just dont get the logic.

  • #459
Why would anyone think Jaycee should be ashamed for releasing a picture? I hadn't heard that. That is patently ridiculous. I don't feel Josie needs to hide, but being that she is a teenager I am just concerned for how she will feel at the pictures being released when she is not at her best. If she is comfortable with it, I think they should be plastered from here to kingdom come. People need to know what was done to her. Again, I'm trying to look at it purely through the eyes of how a teenager would see it. I just don't want her to feel humiliated by it.

belinda i totally understand your points and was not criticizing you.

and yes, there were some comments about jaycee's photos, and later on, the home video releases. it seems there's a pull of people that want more info on her and then when they release it there are others that way 'why are you realeasing it?' its annoying.
