Report: DeSantis Planned To Publish Op-Ed Telling Floridians Wearing A Mask Is ‘Moral Thing To Do,’ But He Never Did

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis reportedly had an op-ed piece with his name on it prepared to run this summer telling Floridians that masks “stop the spread” of coronavirus and that wearing one is “the moral thing to do,” but that language never left his office, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, a shocking development for a politician notorious for his opposition to mask mandates and embrace of fringe science.

In July, press aides were circulating an op-ed they planned to send to the Orlando Sentinel called “Choices,” but the piece was never sent, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

There will be no update today. At 8:30 am this morning, state police came into my house and took all my hardware and tech. They were serving a warrant on my computer after DOH filed a complaint. They pointed a gun in my face. They pointed guns at my kids..

Jones tweeted that state police burst in at 8:30 a.m. to serve a warrant on her computer, The Orlando Sentinel first reported.

The state said authorities were investigating whether Jones is the one who hacked into the state’s emergency communications channel to send a message that urged people to “speak up before another 17,000 people are dead,” the Tampa Bay Times reported last month.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) said they had first tried to contact Jones for 20 minutes to no avail, “in an attempt to minimize disruption to the family,” the agency told the Tampa Bay Times on Monday.

The guns were totally unnecessary. If she were running out the back door with her laptop in her hands, then maybe. But seriously, drawn guns is excessive. A toddler or youngster could have opened that door unexpectedly. I think the public outcry will override everything. There’s going to be so much blowback. This stunt really plays into her whistleblower case, even if she did do it.

The plea deal thing was about a prior cyberstalking case concerning an old boyfriend years ago in college that was harassing her.

I did not realized FL did not let parents decided if their child should be promoted or repeat a grade. This absolutely should be a joint decision with the parents based on test scores, learning disabilities and sometimes, what is going on outside of school. Like a pandemic!

Suggesting that some students might need extra time to learn what they need to know, state Sen. Lori Berman has proposed giving parents the authority to decide whether their child can repeat a grade next year.

Right now, state law leaves that decision up to school officials.

Florida to receive nearly 180,000 initial doses of COVID-19 vaccine, DeSantis says

Florida is expected to receive 179,400 doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine sometime within the next week, Gov. Ron DeSantis said in a video released Thursday evening updating the state’s COVID-19 vaccination distribution plan.

The state has already planned to allocate those initial doses to predetermined at-risk groups, DeSantis said: 97,500 doses will arrive at statewide hospitals to vaccinate health care personnel at risk of COVID-19 exposure; 60,450 doses will be sent to CVS and Walgreens for distribution in long-term care facilities; and 21,450 doses will arrive at Florida Department of Health offices to be administered at additional long-term care facilities by strike teams.

The announcement of the plan follows DeSantis’ pattern of releasing information through pre-recorded videos rather than staging press conferences where he could be asked about his response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the controversial raid of whistleblower Rebekah Jones and whether he acknowledges President-Elect Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

DeSantis claims that he had no advance knowledge of the raid, which no one believes, because of course he and his allies were behind it. Now it turns out the supposed reason for the raid isn’t believable either.

But now it turns out the message was simply sent to an email address that it had made publicly available. This means the warrant was fraudulently obtained, which in turn means a whole lot of people are in trouble.

Orlando Sentinel sues DeSantis for refusing to release weekly White House coronavirus reports

The Orlando Sentinel has filed a lawsuit against Gov. Ron DeSantis and his office for failing to provide the weekly White House Coronavirus Task Force reports in a timely manner.

DeSantis’ office has not provided any of the task force reports for the month of November. It’s been 37 days since the newspaper requested the Nov. 1 weekly report.

The lawsuit alleges that DeSantis and his office have violated the Public Records Act by refusing the release of the reports. It seeks the immediate release of the requested and future reports.

“The state has given us no explanation as to why this crucial health information should be withheld,” said Julie Anderson, the editor in chief of the Orlando Sentinel and the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “We had no choice but to ask a court to intervene to uphold the public records law.”

The reports are produced by a 26-member task force, which was formed in January and is chaired by Vice President Mike Pence. Dr. Deborah Birx serves as its response coordinator.

The reports are sent to all state governors every week and include critical information about trends in the spread of the virus, positivity rates and deaths in all counties and list recommendations for each state to contain the virus.

The White House has indicated these reports should be “widely” shared, including with the media, according to the lawsuit.

A recent White House Coronavirus Task Force report has designated Florida as a "red zone," in immediate need of increased mitigation efforts.

As part of increased precautions, the report suggests that the state begin to warn residents against any gatherings during December holidays.

The report also suggests aggressive testing along with “masks at all times in public.”

Wow! Sounds like "Cha Ching" lawsuit for Ms. Jones.

I was not impressed when the state of Florida dug up some domestic situation Ms. Jones was involved in, as a "justification" to do the excessive search of her home. That is dirty politics.

As a Florida resident, it is hard to find the words to express how disgusted and frightened I feel as a result of the governor's Covid-19 policies. The fallout from his "herd immunity" philosophy and his inaccurate pronouncements on the pandemic are already evident. He's against mask mandates, and the lack of mask mandates has results.. Wherever I go, I see people who refuse to wear masks. Yesterday, I was in a waiting area in a doctor's office, and a woman pulled her mask down, saying she "couldn't breathe" through the simple blue surgical-style mask she had. Luckily, the office employees told her she had to keep it on, covering both her nose and mouth, or she wouldn't be seen. The lack of mandates mean that people will choose to do what they want, regardless of impacts to others.

It can take officials up to two weeks to confirm and report a COVID-19 death, meaning the number of deaths added does not necessarily reflect the number of people who died the previous day.

Florida has had the third-highest number of cases, following behind Texas, with 1.5 million cases, and California, with 1.7 million cases. The three states also have the highest populations in the United States.

In a normal year, we would be in Florida: for various reasons, including the pandemic, we are probably not going to make it this year. We are presently in Michigan---- where at least we have a Governor with common sense, who puts appropriate restrictions in place. De Santis apparently takes his orders from, shall we say, higher up.
