Hey all,

I'm from the UK, and we have a fabulous website called whatdotheyknow.com that allows us to contact authorities directly and request information on cases. With that being said, a lot of the people that have contacted me asking me to cover their loved one's case has been in the US or Canada. I have been unable to find a similar site that does this online, so I am reaching out to my websleuthing family to ask if you know of any, or alternatively can give me a step by step guide on how to obtain case files, reports from LE or ME. I know most departments have someone that does this for them so it's really just what I need to do/include when emailing filing an FOIA request.

Also, I have come across a site that will give you a detailed report on the person you are searching for including if they held criminal records, debts, social media details and so on. However, the site I came across is asking for $5 for this report. I was wondering if there was another site that does this for free? The site came from another sleuther and its the infotracer website.

Thanks all, I really appreciate your help. When it comes to the UK cases I feel like I am very clued in, but with the laws in the US and Canada being so different I'm stumped on what to do.
