What are the biscuits?
They were called Grands flaky biscuits in a can. I think Pillsbury makes them but I tossed the paper so I’m not 100% on that. They were in the food pick up and I would never have baked them. So I was trying to figure out something to make with the two chicken breasts.

I’ve been wanting Cracker Barrel chicken and dumplings for a couple weeks. I’d make this again but only 1 chicken breast instead. Lots of protein that’s for sure.

We make a version of beef / barley / mushroom soup from a recipe found in The Joy of Cooking. It includes Sherry as one of the ingredients. It is very good.
I haven't cooked with barley in so long. I think it was 2004 that partner got her Coeliac diagnosis. I remember liking it, I think. We afterwards used buckwheat in place of it in things, not so much these days because it's a FODMAP.

I thought that's what they were but wasn't sure. Your chicken & dumplings looks so comforting. Enjoy!

I usually like to make biscuits and rolls from scratch, but Grands biscuits are decent to use when I am short on time.

You can make a pretty good breakfast roll by sticking a Fun Size Milky Way bar in the middle of each biscuit then baking according to the package directions.

We use the frozen Grands Southern style biscuits. They are nothing like canned. Not bad at all.

That’s my favorite and I use those for biscuits and sausage gravy. It is really convenient to be able to put 2 in my toaster oven also.

Same here for us, too.

Made shrimp po boy today, used premade breaded shrimp. I shoulda made the shrimp from raw, but I dunno, just figured every time I make one of these, the remoulade always gets kind of just tossed together at the last minute and is meh, want to focus on the remoulade. So used miracle whip, lil yellow mustard, pickle relish, big dollop horseradish,, worcestershire sauce. So good!! Lettuce & tomato on french bread.

Happy to see all the talk about the chicken n dumplings!! Was going to attempt that recipe way back when and never did, now for sure gonna try it. Just putting it out there, a fairly similar recipe to this is crockpot chicken ala king, it is really, really good in a crockpot, and think if you like the dumplings, you'd probably like the chicken ala king. I guess it's kinda fallen out of fashion over the past years, but I still love it & make it every so often.

Really looking forward to trying @PayrollNerd's dumpling soup, but gotta get celery.

Not gonna lie, I love remoulade and enjoy making my own, but you lost me at the Miracle Whip. It's a "thang" here in the South. I'm not gonna swear
'my' way is right but Miracle Whip will never cross my doorway. Can I get an "amen"?

😛😝😜🤪

That's my vote!!

Hellman's remains my staple. And that's a Southern thang too!

Miracle Whip was on sale, I swear it, lol. 4.99. Big jar. Don't usually use it. I don't mind it, though, lol. (Apologies, lol)

It's like using Crisco. Some things actually require these ingredients. It's the law
😉😘

I had no idea of the firestorm I was set to ignite the day I purchased this jar of clandestine salad dressing.

Please accept my apologies. I will always be deeply sorry for inspiring a vomit emoji with this evidently despised condiment. (I just don't mind it, but... you know, never mind. Enough said. I won't even mention its name.)

I've never liked mayo-based potato salads because I didn't like Miracle Whip that everyone used in potato salads in the '50s and '60s. Every family reunion or cookout, there were always multiple bowls of potato salad made with Miracle Whip. Never liked coleslaw, either, because those might have been made with Miracle Whip, too.

Oh my yes! I make apple dumplings every thanksgiving for DD. This year at the last minute I realized that didn’t have any Crisco, so I substituted cooking oil. Big mistake. I had to remake them at Christmas with Crisco!

"On sale" is almost an acceptable excuse. Almost. Now you know 'better' you can do better. You are forgiven. You do score points for making your own remoulade. I embrace you. Welcome back into the fold. Go and Miracle Whip no more. After this jar is used up anyway.

Starting to see why it was on sale, LOL...

A LOT of horseradish in there, that may have helped mask any unattractive qualities. Also, splash of lemon juice (almost forgot).
