You don't think a grandmother would recognize her grandson?
Frederic Bourdin pretended to be the missing Nicholas Barclay, and even Nicholas's mother believed him. I'm not saying that Alex is an imposter, but it does happen.

Interesting story. <modsnip: off topic>

Alex seems to be doing catch up courses at a local college (UK type) with a view to studying at University at some stage. The family comes across as very grounded, decent people. Alex is apparently highly intelligent, keen to learn and I don't think he will look back now.
Alex devoured the Harry Potter novels when he was abroad and strangely, the mother of the main character in the Strike novels (JK Rowling now writing adult fiction as Robert Galbraith) is in some ways a very similar character to Alex's mother. If he ever gets round to reading the Strike novels (I highly recommend them) he will notice the parallels. Coincidence but an odd one.

A DNA test should be standard procedure when a missing child is found after more than a year IN MY OPINION

IIRC this is also not the only instance of such a scam occuring.

Alex is an imposter?????
Let's not go there unless there has been some legit reason presented to suggest this scenario.
Thanks, everyone.

Attention and notoriety. I don't believe that Alex is an imposter, but this case gives me a bad gut feeling due to the fact that Alex has not taken a DNA test.

This article debunks my theory that Alex is an imposter

I'm still very confused why his mum and grandpa are so afraid?
Do they have shared psychosis or something?
Were they witnesses to or commiters of a crime?
Is Alex safe with his grandma?

It feels like there is a giant elephant in the room and I can't work out what it is?

How does it debunk it?
Because the people in the photo are clearly Alex, his mum and his grandad. If there is a photo showing Alex with them before he was found, that surely proves that he is alive and that Alex is not an imposter.

An understandable reaction from Alex who seems like a nice lad and appears quite level-headed for his age. If he does have a family of his own at some stage, he may not have such a clear cut view about his mum and grandfather's actions. What they did was highly irresponsible and his mother's behaviour at times, appears nothing short of feckless. Pre kidnapping, she took him to a commune in Morocco then abandoned him there and she went off to live with her new boyfriend in Bali. His grandmother arranged to fly him home and his mother Skyped him occasionally. I hope the Police do find them.

I wonder why he keeps speaking to the press? I wonder if its his way of getting a message to his mum and granddad? Ie don't worry I know you can't contact me for my birthday. Otherwise I can't see what he is gaining from this. Apart from being paid perhaps? JMO MOO

Edited to add: Good for him. JMO.
