GUILTY France, Dominique Pélicot, drugged wife of 50 years nightly, filmed rape by at least 51 men, 2011-2020

My God. These pathetic so-called men! They were lonely, etc etc - always about them. And this Charly person, talking about raping his own mother! Now he says it didn't happen - oh really? If I was his mother, or any of his family, I would cut off all contact, whether it happened or not. Is there no honour at all left in Frenchmen?

I don't think Frenchmen are any different from men all over the world.

Do we know how many of the 51 have been on the stand yet? The number of rapists who were willing to offer up family members is terrifying. I want to know exactly how many of them not only raped Gisele, but also began these assaults in their own life.

Their first excuse is that since Dominique said it was ok to rape his wife, they had permission.
Their second excuse seems to be, ‘…but I was lonely.’

I can’t imagine how any of them think either of those things is an excuse, but it is baffling to see that in their minds these two excuses hold the same weight. They all say they feel shame in their actions, but somehow are not connected to reality enough to think that saying they did it because ‘wah, loneliness’ is some sort of acceptable answer? Can they not hear themselves and what a pathetic thing that is to say?

Statistics on violence against women in France in light of the Pelicot trial.

I would encourage all of us on this thread to PLEASE click through and read the commentary and statistics here. We have previously discussed the attitudes of the male population in France towards rape, and the trivialization and dismissal of this case by the former Mayor and others in the LE/legal sphere, and this gives us such insight.

This quote stood out to me:

‘Among the types of mistreatments identified, a survey shows that the most frequent type is the trivialization of the facts (more than two-thirds of respondents reported this), followed by the refusal of police to take the complaint. And yet, in France, the receipt of complaints is a legal obligation for police officers.’

Looks like they carried through with it.

Police testing on a hair sample from Charly A’s mother showed a very low presence of sedatives consistent with a sporadic or single use of sedatives. She told police she had never used that type of medication. “I don’t know how it could be in my body. I don’t understand,” she said.

If I were Charly's mom, I would've disowned him

for sure that's an unforgivable betrayal
how do you go on after something like that? I just don't know

"Our family has been destroyed," one of the sons, 50-year-old David Pelicot, told the court in Avignon. "I expect from this trial that ... these men, and that man in the dock (his father), will be punished for the horrors they inflicted on my mother."

At one point, Dominique Pelicot interrupted his son's testimony, saying he wanted to apologise for what he had done. David Pelicot replied: "Never!"
He said he and other family members had destroyed photos to make sure they kept no trace of his father.

David's 38-year-old brother Florian told the court of the chaos that followed the news four years ago of the ordeal that their mother had suffered at the hands of their father.
He said his father was dead to him. "It's been four years since I lost my father," he told the court, crying at times. "Our family has been torn apart."
He asked the court to impose tough sentences, "so that victims no longer need to be afraid of speaking up".

At least Gisele has the blessing of good and supportive children.

"Monster of Avignon's daughter screams
'You will die alone and caught out in lies!'
at her sobbing rapist father
as he tells court he
'never touched'
his children or grandchildren."

I can't imagine that level of trauma. I'm thankful the four of them (mom and three adult children) are a strong, contained unit.

from that article:

Addressing the court in Avignon, and staring at the men who abused her over a decade, the French grandmother said she believed she was raped 'more than 200 times' and 'towards the end two or three times a week'.

omg omg omg those defendants are evil

I didn't realize there were 'sickening pictures' of his two daughters-in-law as well. This poor family. What did he do to the grandchildren, whom he asked to play 'doctor'? Beyond evil.

They are stereotyped as 'romantic.'

And...
as all stereotypes,
they are oversimplified,
based on incomplete knowledge and false beliefs.

Although,
they are difficult to change.
