France - Karen Carter, 65, stabbed to death, Dordogne, 29 April 2025

  • #401
I somehow cannot imagine a 70 year old female pensioner committing such a crime.
While I don't really agree with the general assuption (70 years old in France in 2025 is quite a different thing from, say 70 years old in Russia in 2000 - people might even not be retired at that point and the variations in fitness are huge), I must say that it does feel like a crime committed by a younger male due to the method.
Then again, what other methods does any assilant really have, if they don't have a firearm? Strangling probably seems more risky and is even less likely to be used by a female. Poisoning? Might be a good choice for a local female, actually (especially if they hang out together). However, getting a good poison might be tricky and it would be easier to connect to someone, as it is clear that someone had to be close to her food. Unless you break in to poison the food at home, there will be other people in the public places she eats at.

One cannot cheat nature.

Aging, unfortunately,
leads to a natural decline in muscle mass and strength.
Especially in women.

Not to mention the osteoporosis.

But...
Who knows?

Even Police don't know,
so who am I? 🤔
Just a mere poster.

I just think that K and ML were in the same age group and K was trained.

Les Reines du foot, the over-50 soccer team Karen was a part of, apparently was featured on a program called "Envoyé spécial," which was broadcast on France 2 Thursday evening, June 5.

From the link above, about Karen's murder:

Investigators seem more exercised by evidence of the killer's movements near Karen's cottage – in particular, tyre tracks left in a grassy field that may yet hold the key to their identity.

<modsnip - paywalled articles can be linked and paraphrased, but direct quotes are a copyight violation>

So 4 weeks later, in the same village, another woman is attacked from behind and knocked unconscious, but she survives.

Thank you so much for paraphrasing!!!

Are these crimes connected?
Who is that woman?
Is she British and was she a friend of Karen?
Or is she a local French woman?

🤔

No rest for this "idyllic" place :(

And let's not forget the murder from the past still not solved.

And the thriller movie filmed there once about a serial killer

So much for the idea of peaceful retirement for the expats.

ETA

So,
I guess
the use of the car by alleged perp
means I have to abandon my theory of mentally unstable vagabond roaming this land.

So, this attack seems to have happened in a neighboring town to Tremolat called Bergerac. I looked it up, and Maps said the towns are about 33 km (20 miles) apart.

She was not knifed, but knocked unconscious from behind, and the victim was not able to provide a description of her attacker. The victim was a young woman of 28 walking her dog near her home. Police have not been able to connect this attack with Karen’s, at this point.

Thank you!

If this is the same perp,
well,
how daring of him to strike again!
With heightened Police presence in the area.

And it might look like Karen's attack was random.
(Which I also suspected)

Nothing to do with anything happening in her life.

JMO

ETA

It could also have been a copycat crime 🤔

This woman wasnt stabbed though?

Yep.

But...
2 attacks on lonely women in vicinity and in short time
in previously idyllic countryside
where locals didn't even lock their homes.

Coincidence??? 🤔

C'est la vie???

Oh well,
tough time for Police I guess.

Strange things are happening in the area.

NOT behind a paywall any more!!! :)

Re the investigation in Karen's
case:

"Attention has focused on a car that was parked at the edge of a wood half a mile away.
From here, it is a six-minute walk
– along a faint path sandwiched between the wood and a barley field and down through the walnut grove –
to the crime scene.

After attacking Karen,
the killer is thought to have returned to the car and sped across the field
– leaving tyre marks –
before joining an isolated road,
Route du Plateau,
which leads out of the village.

'Police with dogs and forensic investigators were all over the field examining the tracks and where they think a car was parked next to the wood,'
says a French woman living nearby.

'The tracks have disappeared now because the grass was cut a few days ago
but they were quite clear'.

'I wasn't here at the time of the murder and nor were many others.
These are holiday homes.
The guy next door is from England and he's not due to come with his family until July.
It is quiet now
but was even more so when this horrible event happened'."

BBM
Interesting that!
Was this area targeted for this particular reason?

Also,
Was this car stolen by the perp before the attack?

🤔

Apparently, this did happen in Trémolat. The Public Prosecutor in Bergerac is investigating.

A strange loss of consciousness

On Monday 26 May, at around 11pm, a 28-year-old woman lost consciousness while walking her dog alone in the village of Trémolat. When she came round, the young woman told the gendarmes that she ‘had the impression of being pushed by a man running up behind her’. However, she was unable to give any description of the man who may have pushed her.

A complaint was lodged with the gendarmerie the day after the incident.

The Bergerac public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation. Investigations are underway
to shed light on this strange loss of consciousness and at the same time to put an end to the rumour. In the current context , there is currently no evidence to suggest any link with the murder of Karen.

Oh! I see. Thank you for the correction.

Sorry, everyone—my error. Didn’t mean to mislead.

Checking back, I see now, even in Karen’s case, it is being investigated by the Bergerac prosecutor’s office:

A murder investigation has been launched, led by officers in Bergerac and Agen.

Sylvie Martins-Guedes, the Bergerac prosecutor who is leading the murder enquiry, said…

Responding to UK media reports that a 28-year-old woman had been knocked unconscious while walking her dog in the village just weeks after Ms Carter's death, the Bergerac prosecutor's office told The Connexion it has “no knowledge” of any such attack.

Fake news?
🤔

Not necessarily fake news. Perhaps they are being diplomatic. Note that they do not say that it did not happen.
