Manhunt underway after girl aged just eight raped at campsite in rural France

The child from Holland was raped between 2am and 3am on Tuesday morning at the Old Bridge campsite known as Vieux Pont in Saint-Alban-Auriolles, Ardèche in the Rhone-Alpes region.

According to local reports the little girl's parents were alerted to the sounds of her screaming and the attacker fled the scene.

Police have dispatched a helicopter and initially organised a team of ten officers to search the area.
