'NEW: Shooter is dead, police confirm​

The suspected shooter on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, is dead and one police officer was injured, authorities confirmed.
Law enforcement swooped on the scene near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention campus after the university issued an active shooter alert at around 4 p.m.
“There is no ongoing threat to the Emory campus or the surrounding neighborhood,” the Atlanta Police Department said in an update.
“The incident involved a single shooter, who is now deceased. One law enforcement officers was injured in the course of the response.”

CDC employee says he saw man approach steps, pull out a rifle, and shoot at building​

A CDC employee told CNN that he saw a man approach the steps of a building at the agency’s campus, put a backpack down, pull out a rifle, and shoot at the building.

The employee heard many shots fired and called 911, he told CNN.

The CDC building is adjacent to the Emory University campus in Atlanta.

The officer who was shot while responding to the active shooter incident on Emory University campus has died, according to a law enforcement official.

The Atlanta Police Department had earlier announced one officer was injured during the course of the response.

Atlanta's mayor talking right now...92 children in daycare on campus are all safe.

Sure, "safe," but those families are rocked by this. It's scary to be in an active shooter situation. The effects of selfish violence are wide.

I'm thankful the CDC employees have daycare at their workplace. I think of things like that when there is an emergency - at least parents with daycare nearby can get to their children.
