Found Deceased GA - Aimee Lafakis, 48, Brookhaven, 29 Sep 2023 *arrest*

Brookhaven is definitely a mostly upper-class area of the Atlanta area. It's technically Dekalb Co, but backs Buckhead.. arguably the most expensive city of Atlanta neighborhood.

Where she was found is a borderline rural stretch between Gwinnett and Barrow counties, or about 25 minutes north. It's right off of 316, a highway off of 85 that runs from Gwinnett to the university in Athens.

I thought it must be something like that for a third county to be involved.

Perhaps he broke some laws in Barrow County as well.

Reading between the lines, they were able to find her very quickly probably due to interrogating a suspect. My guess would be video footage, possible phone recordings gave them a suspect right away. Usually, women are killed by a significant other. Such a shame. RIP Aimee; you were a beautiful woman.

**********
Her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Wineinger, 43, was arrested Saturday morning on charges of kidnapping, concealing the death of another, tampering with evidence, making false statements and first-degree burglary.

********
Authorities are still investigating the cause of death and said additional charges could be filed.

This is just my opinion based on the fact there are three counties we have heard about, i wonder if the police are trying to determine exactly where Aimee died.

Also jmo: the police have somethings on camera they have not mentioned publicly. I literally cannot imagine it is possible to go much of anywhere in Brookhaven and not be on recorded by several cameras. So, common sense is the reason i think that. Cameras are pretty cheap these days and people even put them out in the woods. It's kind of weird to think about, but for the law-abiding people of the world, you get used to it.

Yes... she broke up with him. But, unfortunately that wasn't enough.

I think the video footage may be how the police caught him in lies so easily. But jmo. I don't have any idea of what kind of story he was trying to get the police to believe.

I still wonder where her phone has been all this time. For all i know, the police have it. But, if they don't, i hope they find it.

I am so heartbroken to hear about these types of stories constantly. I hope that justice for Aimee is swift. I hope her family is comforted by their memories of her and each other.

Thank you for the kind comment.

The person I know from her family is grateful that the police were able to make an arrest so quickly.

I imagine, her family will have a lot of good memories including friends she made along the way who were good people.

I found out yesterday that Aimee is a grandmother. Her older daughter has a child. This info is also in the NY Post article, i believe.

I have read so many of these news stories that i just realized that this person they have in jail is also charged with burglary of Aimee's apartment. I'm just guessing here, but maybe that solves the mystery of what happened to Aimee's phone.

I was curious about the police saying Wineinger (the accused/boyfriend) wasn’t eligible for bond related to previous charges or convictions. He had no other court interactions in Dekalb County (where the current charges are) or Athens/Clarke County (the address he’s listed at currently per the charges—this would clock with her being found off 316, main way to get to Athens from ATL and vice versa). Finally, in Fulton County (Atlanta), he was cited for an abandoned vehicle, with an address in Flowery Branch, which is in Hall County (where I believe Aimee was from).

So, in Hall County, Wineinger has numerous charges going back to the early 2000s. The vast majority are traffic violations (blocking intersection, speeding, no seatbelt, window tint, running red light, etc.). However, in 2005, he was charged with simple battery against his mother, for which he plead nolo contendre (he admitted no guilt, but paid a fine) and was not to use drugs/alcohol, possess a weapon, or come on his mother’s property.

Our next offense of interest is in 2013: aggravated assault and simple battery (family violence act). The victim was a female who lived in the same home (MT), whom he hit in the face and manually choked. He plead guilty to a consolidated charge of aggravated assault. He was to pay a $3000 fine, have 2 years probation, complete 40 hours of community service, have no contact with the victim, no drugs/alcohol, and do a family violence program. In 2015, this was amended to allow non-violent contact with MT. In 2016, he violated probation by (a.) not completing any community service, (b.) being terminated from the domestic violence education program he was in, and (c.) breaking a law, namely a new charge of simple battery. He was sentenced to 3 years, with 90 days to be served in custody, given credit for time already served. This was revoked AGAIN in 2017, again for breaking a law, this time for possession with intent to distribute methamphetaine and synthetic cannabis. His probation was modified at this point to include a residential treatment program for the remainder of his sentence.

He plead guilty to simple battery in 2015 (I assume the same charge referenced above). He threw yet another woman (MH) from his car. He got a year’s probation with similar conditions as above, also violated by the new drug charges, as above.

In 2017, he split the lip of yet ANOTHER woman (MP) living in his home, charged with battery (family violence act). As this was far from his first offense, it would be a felony, but he ended up getting a plea deal that reduced the charge to a misdemeanor, for which he got another 12 months of probation, similar terms as previous. This was deemed complete in September 2018, with the defendant noted as being in a residential treatment program since June.

Also in 2017, we get to the drug charges referenced above. This dragged out into 2019, ultimately resulting in a plea deal where he received 3 years probation for the synthetic marijuana charge and 8 years, with three to be served in jail for the meth charge—however, this was considered satisfied by the residential treatment he had completed as noted above.

Now I moved to Gwinnett, where Aimee was found. In 2020, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, to which he ultimately plead guilty in 2021. He has also new charges for concealing the death of another, filed October 2, 2023, presumably relating to Aimee.

Good sleuthing, Nancy Drew RN

I was just so busy being glad this guy got no bail, i really didn't look into it. But, i had people in irl telling me a few things about him. Mostly covered in your post.

From what I am gathering even from media interviews, Aimee was one to really talk things over with people she trusted. Her friend particularly mentioned this in her interview. So, i think her doing this is helping build the case because people who spoke with her frequently had information they could tell the police.

Such as it mentions in some articles that after talking to her family, the police took a close look at this guy and arrested him on 9/30/23. Although they didn't immediately say it was about Aimee at that time. Some of it might not be, it might just be random arrestable stuff since looks like that's his pattern.

Absolutely Ridiculous this man was allowed to walk the streets. Those crimes are enough to prove he will escalate to murder and doesn't give a hoot about conditions of parole/probation. Good sleuthing. Prayers for Aimee's family. No justice will bring her back.

He's 43, so he probably has already killed someone. Just playing the odds here. Allegedly. Just my opinion.

The cops jumped on him pretty quickly. He was arrested on 9/30, but for all we know they were already chatting with him and watching him late on the 29th. So, probably they have been able to retrieve some pretty good evidence.
