thank you Marina2, for your personal insight into the area. I also noted in one of the articles they interviewed a neighbor who basically said there had been a shooting just a few months back but that until the other day's shooting he hadn't really felt unsafe. I think the brutal, senseless nature of this crime has really hit the neighbors hard. He seemed to be conveying the sort of if this can happen, then anything can happen kind of fear.

The woman doesn't seem to know a lot about firearms. Revolvers don't expel casings, only semi automatics do.

Regardless the woman was getting shot at and didn't want to believe the gun was real, very believable as when the adrenaline hits memory gets sketchy, the brain functions at 20% capacity or so.

Sorry I haven't watched the video yet. Did the mother describe the type of gun? Is it a revolver? Does LE know what type of gun they are looking for?

I do not recall anyone saying what type of gun was used. It was probably a semi-auto as that is most common.

LE will find that weapon and yes I am sure they know what type they are looking for. The likely only owned one and he didn't toss it, he hid it.

All that's been said is "it was a handgun" - we don't even know the caliber. LE hasn't found the gun as yet - at least as far as we know.

I can't really blame the friends and family of the suspect who are defending him and proclaiming his innocence. First of all, he is innocent until proven guilty. Second, and probably more relevant in this case, it's hard to grasp the horror of the situation at hand. Someone they consider a friend or relative is accused of an incredibly heinous and senseless crime. One second he was their friend or relative and the next he was an accused babykiller. That can take a while to settle in. They lost someone in this crime too, they lost the boy they thought existed. In my experience, they will go through same stages of grief as if DE had died, because, to them, in a way, he has.

If DE committed this crime, I have no pity for him. I do, however, recognize that his family needs to grieve for him.

Three boys lost their lives on that sidewalk, two are just still breathing. The accused's families have to go through the grief process and work through the guilt they may feel for these boys' actions.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. — The mother of a baby gunned down in his stroller says she has no doubt a teenage suspect jailed in the slaying is the man who killed her 13-month-old son, but family members say he wasn't anywhere near the scene.

"That's definitely him," Sherry West said when she saw the jail mugshot of 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins, who is charged as an adult with first-degree murder. Police also arrested a 14-year-old who has not been identified because he's a minor.

"We're trying to determine which one actually was the shooter," police spokesman Todd Rhodes said Saturday.

But West said she was certain the gunman was the older suspect. "He killed my baby, and he shot me too," she said.

this is the first indication I have seen that LE is not convinced that DE was the shooter, but SW seems pretty convinced the older teen is the shooter who killed her baby right in front of her.

As to where the gun is, I am sure it is safely tucked away in the possession of one of his Moneyville posse.

I hope LE are able to find it but I have a feeling it has been well hidden and may be being passed around by friends of the shooter for safekeeping. I don't see it being sold as too much risk that it would then be used by another criminal and end up in hands of LE. I also don't see it being destroyed or dumped because a gun is a commodity and has value to thugs, they would probably rather keep it around til the heat dies down for use in later criminal endeavors.

well said necco and probably all true. But from the comments I have seen on social networks by those claiming to be family of this young man, I have a hard time being sympathetic, although I am trying to keep in mind all of what you posted.

In the video at this link the Aunt says he was home with her when shooting happened and he is quoted by reporter as saying he was at school......somebody better get their story straight.

This lady has not only just lost her child but has been shot herself. She is most likely on a lot of pain meds for the gunshot wounds. So her story may not always sound the same. Lets give her a break.

That being said if you go to YouTube and search for "moneyville Brunswick" you will find at least 2 videos that will interest some of you.

I know it was reported that this sort of thing doesn't happen in this area but it absolutely does, frequently. I live four blocks from where this happened and can list many incidents. Granted, shooting a baby in the face is unheard of but this city is no stranger to random acts of violence. A few years back, my son was walking home on the street that runs parallel to Ellis St. and two black teenagers attempted to rob him armed with metal pipes. He was able to wrestle a pipe from one of them and sent them running. They were arrested within the hour. In the last year there's been a sharp increase in the number of shootings occurring in the city. In a two mile radius of where this occurred live the wealthiest of wealthy and the poorest of poor. There are Victorian mansions as well as run-down shacks that serve as crack houses and everything in between. My heart goes out to this poor woman who lost her baby in such a senseless, tragic way. Such a shame that you can't even walk your baby down the street in this beautiful neighborhood without him getting shot to death.

Thank you for posting this. Georgia and Florida have a lot of similarities in the lack of zoning laws and lots of gangs. All of the talk about how the parents of these two teens should have been paying more attention to what was going on probably don't have a lot of knowledge to how these gangs run. Most likely the parents are gang members as well. In fact I also looked at the FB pages and it is def a large blood gang and legit. These kids aren't wannabes, they are the real deal. I figured as much from the very beginning. It didn't matter if the victim was 1 yr old or 60yrs old. He had to save face in his eyes. Like I said I grew up around this and know gang members. What a senseless crime.

You are 100% correct.
Even if a family member is getting into trouble... most people don't jump from "troublemaker" to "baby killer."

My cousin was a man who was always gentle and kind. With babies, the elderly, the disabled. He just got into trouble.
When my cousin committed a horrendous crime... his name and picture on the front page... I was in shock.
I would wake up in the morning and try to process it. Realizing that it could have been ME instead of the victim.

There was no question in my cousin's case, he was the only suspect. It didn't make it easier to grasp...
That my beloved cousin had done something so awful. Someone I grew up with, loved and trusted to protect me.

Now, with that said... I never publicly defended my cousin.
I supported him privately, but didn't feel the need to defend him publicly.
When he screwed up again, I cut all ties with him. It was heartbreaking.

This family is obviously completely different than mine... but I'm guessing some of them have the same reaction I did.

:welcome5: AndrewFL. I agree with you that some seem hyper focused on mom. I had viewed one of the videos but had not seen the fighting one. Early on in that video I saw a female who appeared to be trying to discourage the young man who had some sort of long white appearing weapon, her dress looked very familiar to a photo of someone I saw on a FB page. The woman in the video seemed to have the same build as the woman whose photo I saw.

The video gave an interesting view into a very volatile group of individuals. MOO

Read this story last night and had trouble sleeping. I can not get Antonio's sweet face out of my head. I can not fathom how a human being could harm even a hair on a precious little baby! I can't make sense of this - all I come up with is that the who did this must be an empty shell of a human who has absolutely no regard, respect, or compassion for human life what so ever - be it a precious baby or an older adult. I hope the rest of his days are a living hell and that he painfully rots throughout the rest of eternity.
