GUILTY GA - Antonio Santiago, 13 mos, Brunswick, 21 March 2013 - #3

  • #701
I'm on an island off the coast of Brunswick for 2 weeks and wanted to know what some Brunswick people thought. So, I have asked the clerk at a fresh seafood place, our yardman, and 2 garbage collectors who came by this morning. All 4 think SW did it for the insurance money. These people didn't explain anything about a gun or if they thought SW paid to have the baby killed. Their thoughts are SW collected on an insurance policy from her older son and that is what she has done with the baby, also.

Has it been proven she had a policy on her older son? I would have thought Gough would have jumped on that, if it were true.

Thankful this trial is in Cobb County!

I don't know if she had an insurance policy on her older son, but it's very obvious she had nothing to do with her older son's murder. They know exactly who killed the older son, it was ruled self-defense, but it's crystal clear mother had nothing to do with it.
Seriously, this blaming the victim crap is getting old.

Defense is asking for a "directive verdict" in some of #elkins charges. An attempt to show there's not evidence to support it. @wjxt4

Im sure it will, I think now that the initial story has proven true it will come back to bite them , When I first heard the story and saw her first speak it didnt seem genuine, even saying she was on meds wasnt helping me buy it (as I am bipolar, borderline and ptsd also) now her reaction looks disconnected and and like she is in shock now that Im used to hearing her voice, but in order for them to do this and not come off looking like they were badgering a greiving mom, they act as if there is something they are waiting to pull out of their hat, I dont think that will happen-but this has got to be tourtue for her SO SICKING!!!!! I dont even recall Patsy Ramsey being treated this badly!:banghead:

Hi Sloane - I agree with your last sentence, but then PR was never on the witness stand...imagine that if you will!

One would think the defense must have something up their sleeve for them to be going at her as hard as they are - legitimate or not...it seems they feel something they have will redeem them. Then again, they could simply be chipping away at her credibility and mental impairment to raise reasonable doubt about her fingering Elkins?

I don't think they have anything up their sleeve that actually connects her to the murder. All they have is 'evidence' of her mental health issues, which show up as hinky or shady incidents in the past. They are just trying to deflect and say ' hey, look over here, instead of at our guilty shooter. '

I would like to know in what way she changed her story. Wish we had more info.

I have no idea why statements from the daughter are even allowed, considering it's hearsay.

My mother talked about her father's life insurance on the same day he died as well. She wanted to begin planning his funeral, to take the burden off her mother. And she wondered how much insurance there was and when it woyld be available for the funeral expenses.

Sherry West was probably grieving and talking nervously. Asking about a 5 thousand dollar insurance policy does not make her GUILTY of shooting her baby in the head.

My oldest daughter has a Gerber policy on both of her kids. I believe they got the paperwork from the hospital when the kids were born. $5000 policies. Many are purchased by grandparents as well. I see no red flags here.

ITA. It's all smoke and mirrors. She had a minimal possible policy on this child.
A lot of people have the same policies on their children.
I know of some stories where people were accused of killing children for life insurance. They had much larger amounts taken out.

Gough is just trying to throw as much mud as possible, hoping that some of it will stick and obscure the damning facts of the case. IMO

Darlie Routier was a victim also, what if they had never questioned her just because she was injured and her sons were murdered? Things aren't always black and white and mothers are sometimes culpable in extremely heinous crimes. Look at the mother of Shaniya Davis - a drug addiction destroyed her judgment.

SW made a lot of off-the-wall statements when she was interviewed by the media..one being about raising her kids:

"This is the second child that people have taken from me in a tragic way," West said. "I'm so afraid to have any more babies now. I tried to raise really good kids in a wicked world."

Of course we have since learned she didn't raise her daughter after age 8 because she was taken away from her due to neglect and abuse. Why would anyone want that fact ignored when a baby has been brutally murdered while in her care? It may not have anything to do with the case, but must at least be questioned.

While sleuthing this case I found another statement SW made to be odd,

"‘He kept asking, and I just said “I don't have it,"’ West told The Associated Press the day after the slaying. ‘And he said, “Do you want me to kill your baby?” And I said, “No, don't kill my baby!”’

"I don't have 'it'" is the phrase that stood out for me. When someone says "give me your money", one would naturally reply, "I don't have 'any'" - not, "I don't have IT", as if they were being asked for payment on a loan. Of course this could be duress, like a lot of the other things she said that made many look at her interviews sideways.

Questioning, even when harsh, is not always blaming, IMO
