GUILTY GA - Antonio Santiago, 13 mos, Brunswick, 21 March 2013 - #3

disgusting trail tactics do not equal a vigorous defense nor an innocent defendant!

The senseless murder of Antonio, a defenseless year-old baby, sleeping in his stroller is quite horrific without crazy antics & accusations of the public defender.

I fear that the defense will tear Sherry West apart when she is on the stand. I hope the Judge keeps a close eye on Gough's questioning.

Brunswick newspaper update. Gough was questioning Dectective Angela Smith:

"Gough’s questioning focused on several aspects of the investigation he suggested were improperly handled. He said the crime scene police investigated was not actually where Antonio and his mother, Sherry West, were shot."

Also in the same article:

"Earlier in the morning, Elkins’ alleged accomplice, 15-year-old Dominique Lang, took the stand without the jury present to testify in a hearing on a motion by Gough to get Lang’s identification of Elkins ruled inadmissible at trial. Lang spoke softly and answered most questions from Gough with “Yes, sir” and “No, sir.”

The hearing on that motion, which was postponed from earlier this month, was not completed and was expected to continue later today."

Jurors are not in court, but defense is questioning Dominique Lang's credibility on identifying De'Marquise Elkins as shooter

Dominique Lang, is the other murder suspect. His interview w/ police just played. Jury not in court

I'm going to take a guess and say this was before he confessed. Not surprising he wouldn't want to identify Elkins. If I am wrong, ignore me.:seeya:

What leads you to believe her wounds were "obvious self inflicted?'

Nothing.
And I've seen nothing from LE suggesting that either.

I admit I have not followed every step of this case, but nothing about her wounds scream self inflicted to me.

IMO she is a victim unless we hear otherwise from LE.

Judge Kelly denies the defense's motion to not include Lang's testimony. Lang, is the other murder suspect. He will testify. @wjxt4

State argues that Langs testimony should be permitted during trial despite the defense effort to discredit it. Judge will decide shortly

There locations on her body. Not to mention her almost immediate call for life insurance. I think that this was possibly planned. I'd like to be wrong and have no issues with being wrong :) But in my heart of hearts, since day one I felt this was no murder. Infanticide maybe, but not a random attack/or homicide. That's just my take on this case.:stormingmad:

What, exactly, is it about the location of her injuries that make them appear to be self inflicted, rather than caused by someone who was standing in front of her?

I always felt that she was complicite and maybe shot her own kid. This is jmho. Plus her obvious self inflicted wounds....I am on the fence for sure in this case.

You think she shot her own baby in the face? In in public, in broad daylight? Really?

Then how did the mother of the suspect get the gun and throw it in the lake? And why did the other perp point the finger at his friend as the killer? And why did these boys need to hide in the backseat of their Auntie's car to escape the crime scene?

If you shoot a baby in the face, it's murder no matter who does it, IMO. Concerning the call for life insurance, the $5,000 amount of the policy would possibly have covered the funeral & burial expenses, but I doubt there would be much, if any, left over. Are you thinking she just wanted rid of Antonio for some reason?

According to LE, the location of her wounds is consistent with being shot at by another person. I have never heard them indicate in any way that they believe the wounds to have been self-inflicted. Additionally, because Antonio was shot in the face from approximately 6 inches (or less) away, Sherry would have been sprayed with gunpowder as she stood beside or behind the stroller. Then there is the fact that other witnesses were on the scene almost immediately trying to help her with the baby, calling 911, etc. There was no time to dispose of the murder weapon. Or do you think she hired Elkins & Lang to kill Antonio? Are you of the opinion that the $5,000 was to pay for that? Why do you believe they would have agreed to participate in a broad daylight murder for hire for such a small amount, and why would Lang have implicated Elkins but not West?

I always like to understand how people come to the conclusions they reach. :)

The immediate call for life insurance was for the FUNERAL COSTS. Why else does a parent take out insurance on a toddler? To help pay for their burial costs.

And now that is being held against this grieving mother as 'evidence?' Ghheeeeez. She can't catch a break.

Why wouldn't it be a random attack? These same two perps had committed an earlier random attack on a passerby? They robbed a man at gunpoint.

This is a place for the crime victim's to feel safe. Accusing this poor woman of shootin g her baby in the face, with no evidence, is unfair and sad, imo.

Please continue the discussion here. The alleged perps have been arrested and indicted. The defense attorney has asked for a "swift" trial, so things should move along quickly.

REMEMBER:

Antonio's mom is a victim.
Name calling is NOT allowed, not even of the alleged perps.
This is NOT a race issue and we will not make it one.

May justice be swift for Antonio, poor baby :(
