Interesking stuff. Yes, Lang's statements in this trial can be used against him, but I don't think they will be. Lang has a lot of lies. But are they relevant? H wasn't lying to protect the mother, he was lying to protect himself. But the general gist of his story, that Elkins shot the baby has been consistent. And it is the same as the Mother's. Ultimately i find Lang to be quite believable. I dont think the jury will have trouble seeing his perspective. Elkins will try to present different theories, but they can't all be true. And that is where his defense fails. In closing the prosecution will simply point out that there is only one theory that fits the facts: Elkins shot the kid. The rest is irrelevant. I believe Lang and the State when they say that there is no deal. Not written at least, but perhaps implied. That's why Elkins is on trial first.

We have thunder and some lightning outside the courthouse of #ElkinsTrial right now. No rain.... yet. Wind picking up, though.

Now they are giving weather reports from the court room. Just what I want to hear!! I give up too!

Aargh, the local coverage on this case is so frustrating! It isn't just the meager tweets and online coverage, it's the broadcast media as well. Arguably the best radio news station in the area, WSB, had a brief blurb on the trial today at lunch that made it sound like the shooting had just happened: "A 13-month old baby has been shot in the face, his accused killer is on trial today...."

I don't know if these photos from the AJC have already been posted, but gosh, DL looks so young! (Elkins not so much.)

P.S. The reason for the weather tweets is that we are having SEVERE thunderstorms here today with many lightening strikes and 60 mph winds. And there goes my power! Shutting down

I agree. He lied at first because he was caught up in a murder and trying to pretend he didn't see anything and was not involved. I don't see how that will set this other killer free. At least I hope not. I think the retrieval of the gun will be the key factor here.

If this Defense team comes hard at the grieving mother on the stand, it will backfire on them. No one is going to believe the mom shot her infant in the face. They will just look like desperate, callous goons, imo.

"Also on Thursday, Elkins’ lead attorney, Kevin Gough, announced he had filed a motion this morning for dismissal based on complaints from witnesses that they had been threatened by Antonio’s father, Louis Santiago.
Gough told Glynn County Superior Court Judge Stephen Kelley that two witnesses had come forward with complaints to the Glynn County Police Department, but that no investigation was launched. Gough called that “outrageous misbehavior” by the government.
Kelley, though, said he had not had time to read the motion and suspected prosecutors had not either. The judge said a hearing could be held on that matter later, possibly Sunday evening."

Contrary to how trials are portrayed on television, there are actually rarely shocking surprises, at least to the prosecution and the defense. We, the observers, are frequently surprised or shocked at information that comes out in trial, but with discovery it is highly unusual that both teams don't already know exactly what is going to be said on the stand by which witnesses, and what evidence and counter-theories will be presented. So what I look for is how the prosecution presents its case, whether they seem amenable to a deal, etc. And in this case what I see is a prosecution team that is going methodically through the process of proving that Elkins and Lang were responsible for Antonio's death, not Sherry West or DL's cousin or anyone else. And that Elkins pulled the trigger. That's what I see.

In this case, I believe the 'truth' will come out that Sherry West has mental issues, that she has done drugs, that she has been a less than stellar mother to her adult daughter and that she took the baby out walking in a place that the child's father had specifically warned her not to go. IMO, he is testifying against her because he blames her for Antonio's death, not that she actually did it or had a hand in it, but that she defied him by walking (in broad daylight) in what the father considered a dangerous part of town and she must therefore be punished. (By the way, this guy's a real prize, isn't he?? Police were called over him shouting at SW not long after Antonio's death and now he is testifying against the mother of his murdered child. Father of the year, this one.)

Anyway, none of these 'truths' that will 'come out' add up to Sherry West being a model citizen, but they also don't add up to her murdering her own baby or hiring two gunmen and buying their continuing silence as to her involvement with that pitiful $5,000 life insurance payout. IMO, of course, but it seems to be the opinion shared by LE and the prosecution, who have access to ALL the evidence.

I don't get why news stations put reporters in court to tweet, and then they don't tell you anything! Beyond frustrating. :seeya:
