Because of work, I haven't been able to watch very much of the trial live. I am wondering if there was evidence presented showing that Gary was shot in the house. One of the big questions has been "how did she get him to the burn pile from the house?". (It's also a question that I feel like if unable to be answered could lend itself to a fair amount of reasonable doubt.) This has left me wondering: what if she didn't have to move him, what if she shot him AT the burn pile. I have been unable to really find anything addressing evidence of him being shot in the house so I thought I would ask here and see what info you guys may have.

Bullet in the basement, some blood in stairs, possibly shot inside, ran outside, fatal shot near burn pile or moved with kabuta IIRC

This is a key question that was not adequately addressed by the prosecution in my opinion. A few drops of blood is not compatible with a gun shot and the prosecution only mentioned the kubota could have been used, but no explanation as to how she got him up the stairs and out the door to the kubota.

I 100% agree. This is the question that has given me the most pause — “How did she get him to the burn pile?” And I would have to think the jury would be wondering the same thing.

It’s like the elephant in the Court Room.

Usually basements have a door that goes outside that's ground level. Trying to find a layout of the floor plan but having no luck so far.

And their basement did as well.
Here is a partial screen capture from a CourtTV video which showed crime scene photos (after the house was cleaned out). You can see the sliding doors out to the patio. Melody wouldn't have had to have lugged Gary up the stairs. She could have dragged him out those doors. There were a few blood spots up at the top of the stairs though. I thought it was possible that MF could have dropped some blood from something she carried upstairs (i.e. but not Gary). Just one hypothesis.

I looked the property up on Realtor.com, it does state there is an exterior entry for the basement.

I do not understand how this walkout was not emphasized over and over by the prosecution?

IMO after considering things, I don’t think the door changes things for me. I am about the same size as Melody and my boyfriend is similar in size to Gary - there is no way, even with a door out of the basement, that I could move him anywhere. Also, in regards to the Kubota, I have worked as an equine vet tech and on numerous horse farms in my life. I have used lots of farm machinery for various reasons, one of which was to move deceased farm animals. Without going into too much detail, I will tell you there is absolutely no way to drag a body behind a Kubota/tractor or anything without leaving evidence that it was drug.

I haven’t been following to closely. Did someone say the body was dragged behind the tractor. All the farm/ranch tractors I’ve worked with had bucket attachments. https://www.kubotausa.com/products/tractors/sub-compact/bx-series

I have heard people speculate that she used a Kubota tractor or a SXS. Even with a bucket attachment, she still would have to get him out of the house if he indeed was killed in the house. Someone upthread mentioned him being shot in the house, running out and being shot a second time near the burn pile. If she is the one that killed him, that, for me, would be the most plausible theory.

The other point of interest for me is the phone conversation Melody had with Rusty about if she told him Gary was on the burn pile. Her response was “I don’t know” - who would say that if they knew they didn’t have anything to do with his murder. Without the “I don’t know” response, I could reasonably think that she told Rusty in conversation that Gary was “working on the burn pile”. Or even saying “he’s on the burn pile” as a way of saying he’s working on the burn pile. (Like the expression “I’m on it!” when someone asks if you’ve started working on something or to start working on something.) I admit, if that was the case, what a horrible case of bad timing/coincidence of that conversation taking place right before his body is found ON that burn pile. Also her comment on the body should have never been burned that badly bothers me. I realize a fire needs to get incredibly hot to burn a body to the point that it sounds like his was, but I just don’t think that would have been my comment if my husband had been found burned beyond recognition on our property and I had no idea how he got there. It’s almost like she’s saying she never expected it to have been burned that badly with what she knew occurred.

Those conversations bother me too. I could go either way on this case, I think she did it but the prosecutor did not prove it to me.

He was shot in the house. There are blood droplets and a bullet. However, IMO, the bullet just nicked him, and he went charging out of the house to get to the neighbors. The burn pile is on the way to the neighbors, actually, very close (a few yards). Melody shot him again in his rib. There may have been more shots as well. He fell near enough to the burn pile that she could grab the Kubota and nudge him in. We don't know if he was alive or dead when she set him alight. We do know she used the Kubota. There was blood on it. IMO

So yes, that would put him right near the burn pile when she shot him or when he fell over because he'd been shot.

They pointed out the doors early on AND the jury went on a field trip. Court TV used the door on their little tour, so it had to be part of the jury tour.
