The Tex McIver murder trial returns from spring break this week. Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney told the jury before the break that prosecutor Clint Rucker still has witnesses to call, and he has already called more than 60.

The judge didn’t sound thrilled.

"Mr. Rucker and his team have helped me understand there are not a whole lot of witnesses left,” McBurney said. “I don’t think there are that many people left in the world.

I never caught up with the previous day of testimony. I obviously missed alot. Back to reading.

That quote from the judge is yet another of a litany of many such quips that is find very unprofessional. I often wonder if this case was not televised would he so the same?

I think I understand from a personal human view why he says things like that quote, as an attempt to humanize himself to the others in the court room during a very grim trial. It's my experience that cooperation comes much easier with people that feel some form of connection with the people "in charge" or in some position of authority, especially if in a scary or daunting situation. The problem I see with it is that this is a case that is and will likely be somewhat widely publicized a great deal in text and some of the congeniality and tone of what is said will be completely lost and probably misinterpreted by consumers.

Don't know Niner. Maybe he just doesn't really want to hear what the surgeon has to say, so hiding his head helps him do that in some way- could bring back the feelings he had at the time of his wife's death and he doesn't want anyone to know his feelings now??? after all, he may need to show a strong, manly appearance all the time ??? Just guessing (which I hate to do because everyone is different in how they handle their feelings/stress, IMO).
