If it wasn't a crime, there wouldn't be an indictment! It's literally one of the overt acts.

It is ridiculous to keep debating this. He has been charged for making that phone call (Solicitation of Violation of Oath By A Public Officer) because it is an overt act IN FURTHERANCE of a conspiracy (Page 48, Act 112) - also known as a crime.
BBM. An indictment is an accusation. The DA still has to prove all 19 defendants committed a crime to a jury.

It was a crime and is listed as such in the indictments
Indictments are accusations that require actual proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

There can't be an indictment without probable cause that crimes were committed so it's just not true to say Trump's phone call wasn't a crime. It's alleged to have been just that.

Obviously it doesn't mean Trump's guilty - that's for the trial to determine - but in the same vein, it is at best, disingenous to claim Trump did nothing wrong in that phone call.

I'll be sorry I got on this train, I know it, but... yes, precisely. An accusation with PROOF beyond doubt.

@jimsciutto

Breaking: Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has asked a judge to set a trial date of March 4, 2024, for former President Donald Trump and his 18 co-defendants.

@bluestein

Willis’ proposed schedule also requests arraignments for Trump and his allies the week of Sept. 5. She hasn’t changed her Aug. 25 deadline for them to surrender at the Fulton County Jail.
She’s certainly ready to go!

Nicole Wallace opened her show with an anecdote about Fani Willis joking she'd hoped Brad Raffensperger took the call from Trump while in another county so she the case wouldn't be hers.

Seeing headlines like the one below, I can't say I blame her.

And this is how people get hurt and killed.
Deplorable.
The Georgia court system should have made an exception in having Grand Juror names
Identified in this case- they are now in grave danger thanks to Trump's henchman-- what a horrible
Move by the Georgia justice system.

Fulton County does NOT mess around when it comes to RICO cases. I've been watching Fulton County court livestreams religiously since the pandemic started (they began livestreaming court proceedings on YouTube to provide public access during the pandemic and have continued to do so -- here is a link to the Fulton County courts webpage with streaming links) and let me tell you, in every single case I've seen where a defendant was facing a RICO charge, the prosecutors were extremely diligent in presenting the facts of the case and always requested the maximum sentence.

Street gangs are a major problem in Atlanta and from my experience watching court proceedings there, the Fulton County prosecutors are very experienced in using the state's RICO statutes to put the proverbial nail in the coffin. MOO.

Did the jurors knew their names would be released? If they did, they are an incredibly brave group of Americans!

There's no precedent or mechanism in Georgia for concealing grand jurors names so I think they had to be well aware. Georgia rules around grand juries are a lot less secretive than other states.

I really hope there are criminal charges coming for whoever decided to post their addresses online. JMO

ETA: Before I forget again, former White House lawyer Ty Cobb said that in his view the 'report' due out Monday will probably lead to another charge of obstruction of justice since a) it will more than likely be deceptive and b) intended to taint the jury pool.

Trump is undermining the entire US judicial system with another big lie

Not content with trying to destroy America’s trust in the US election system with his big lie that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him, Donald Trump is now trying to destroy America’s trust in the US judicial system with another big lie.

The second big lie is that judges, prosecutors, witnesses and juries are corruptly prosecuting Trump as a means of keeping him from being re-elected.

[…]

This fourth indictment marks another step in the US’s slow but steady process of criminal justice. It is another illustration that no one is above the law.

[…]

His wild statements endanger people. Willis and her staff have already been threatened, as has Smith, and potential witnesses.

[…]

Trump’s conditions of release at his arraignment in Washington earlier this month included a vow – which Trump swore to uphold – that he would not intimidate or harass witnesses and officers of the court or threaten the administration of justice.

Yet Trump has not ceased posting inflammatory invective against potential witnesses, against potential jurors in Washington DC, New York and Georgia, against judges who have been assigned to hear the cases against him, and against Willis, Smith and other prosecutors.

The possibility that his threats might silence potential witnesses, or that his rants might intimidate jurors, prosecutors and judges, cannot be dismissed. It is incumbent on the courts to stop Trump, even if it requires revoking his release from jail pending his trials.

Trump’s invective is also having a more insidious effect. By casting the criminal justice system as corrupt and partisan – as part of a conspiracy to prevent him from being re-elected – Trump is undermining public trust in that system.

[…]

“I AM BEING ARRESTED FOR YOU,” Trump posted in all caps on 3 August, the day of his indictment in Washington for seeking to overthrow the 2020 election.

“I’m being indicted for you,” Trump said in June, after being charged with retaining government secrets.

A century ago, the world witnessed fascist leaders who sought to fuse their identities with their followers while sowing distrust in all other institutions, so that followers lost their capacities for independent thought and accepted whatever the leaders said as truth.

If a substantial portion of the American public comes to believe that the judges, juries and prosecutors seeking to hold Trump accountable for trying to overturn the 2020 election are part of the same trumped-up plot to keep him from becoming president, the US’s 244-year experiment in self-government is seriously jeopardized.

Trump’s second big lie is almost as dangerous to the future of American democracy, and to the rest of the world that looks to the US for leadership, as was his first.

The second big lie should be understood as an extension of Trump’s attempted coup.

Trump prosecutor Fani Willis faces racist abuse after indicting ex-US president

Georgia prosecutor subjected to flurry of threats after Trump makes thinly veiled reference to N-word after latest charges

Fani Willis […] is facing a flurry of racist online abuse after the former president attacked his opponents using the word “riggers”, a thinly veiled play on the N-word.

[…]

“They never went after those that Rigged the Election,” Trump wrote. “They only went after those that fought to find the RIGGERS!”

[…]

Trump’s allusion to the racial slur was immediately picked up by his supporters on far-right platforms including Gab and Patriots.win. The sites hosted hundreds of posts featuring “riggers” in their headlines in a disparaging context.

The word has also been attached to numerous social media posts to Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss. The two Black poll workers from Atlanta were falsely accused by some of the 19 defendants in the Fulton county case of committing election fraud during the 2020 vote count, and the indictment accuses Trump allies of harassing them.

Calls to violence have proliferated across far-right sites since the charges were made public on Monday night. Several Gab posts reproduced images of nooses and gallows and called for Willis and grand jurors who delivered the charges to be hanged. And posts on Patriots.win combined the wordplay with direct calls to violence.

He knew exactly what he was implying IMO.
And now a whole bunch of his supporters are running with it.

Okay, I am officially tired of no judge shutting Trump down as in putting him in jail-He is getting away with threats and intimidation no other person would have gotten away with. I am tired of hearing how judge Chunkin (sp) takes no crap-- well she is taking crap and he is getting worse each day and putting people's lives in danger, including hers. She might as well put him in jail- then the crazies who want a civil war can come out of the shadows: there won't be that many IMO and law enforcement should be ready for them this time. How long is the justice system going to let Trump go on with these threats?
