Officials say a local hunter contacted the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office after discovering what he believed to be a shallow grave.

Deputies arrived at the scene, located off of Highway 30 near South Effingham High School, and confirmed the discovery was, in fact, of human remains.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted to assist with identification.
