"Please give him back, please. Don't mess my family up," the toddler's grandmother, Leriesa Mitchell told FOX 5's Deidra Dukes.

DCPD says J'Asiah Mitchell was kidnapped Wednesday at around 11:23 p.m. from a home at 3379 Flat Shoals Road in Decatur.

Mitchell said the boy was with his father, Artayvious North, when he was taken. J'Asiah's father told her and other family members that a car started trailing him as he left the complex Wednesday night.

"And said the car swerved in front of him as he was trying to leave out the entrance of the apartment complex, jumped out with guns asked him for something. He didn't have it so they took my grandson," Mitchell said.

So IMO, little boy J'asiah's daddy is being questioned by the LE as to the story of the abduction that probably wasn't?! As in, there is no video surveillance of a vehicle stopped at gun point with a toddler taken video? Think the father has been asked to go for a ride? One of those....'show me where it happened' rides.???

A search is underway in East Point for a missing toddler who hasn't been seen since Wednesday night. Authorities said they are searching for 2-year-old J'Asiah Mitchell.

11Alive's Cody Alcorn is at the Elite at Lakeview Apartments on Lakeview Place in East Point, where a search is ongoing with the help of Game Warden K-9s and police. They were seen searching near the woods and a pond. Photos of the search can be seen at the bottom of this story.

Authorities said the toddler was last seen at the Aspen Woods Apartments off Flat Shoals Road, which is about 30 miles away from where they are currently searching.

Among the MANY questions i have...
Where was the father allegedly going at approx. 11:30 at night with a toddler?

I have to wonder if the current search location was chosen based on digital footprint from dad's phone. I presume he is still being questioned about his nonsense abduction story anyway.

The article also said:
On Facebook, the Carrollton Police Department also said the child has ties to that city, without elaborating.

"And said the car swerved in front of him as he was trying to leave out the entrance of the apartment complex, jumped out with guns asked him for something. He didn't have it so they took my grandson,"

this part of Leriesa Mitchell's statement confuses me. Did the unknown someone (or some ones since she used the word guns plural) ask for some things specific? her wording is odd. as if they wanted a specific something.

That would indicate that those some ones knew him and knew he might have this "something" would it not? So how does Mr. North not have a description of these alleged abductors?

just read the rest of this article that has the quotes from paternal grandma and found this but it is unclear which Mitchell this is that is talking here but I agree with them:

The DeKalb County Police Homicide Unit, which handles missing person's cases, says they are working to identify the circumstances leading up to the kidnapping. They are talking to J'Asiah's father about the incident.

Mitchell has her own questions.

"There's either more to the story, or the whole story is just a lie, because even if it was a drug deal gone bad, or whatever the case may be, they would hurt him and not the baby," Mitchell said. "I think the dad need to tell us what happened."

I'm confused. Did you find a different article that quoted the paternal grandmother? I think Mitchell is the maternal grandmother.

If his father is living with his current girlfriend and her child/children, why was only this little one out in a car at almost midnight?

This sweet little one was loved by so many, on both sides of the family. Prayers for the minuscule chance that he's still alive.

J'Asiah's father has been arrested:

"Late on Thursday night, DeKalb Police said they arrested J'Asiah's father and charged him with false statements and false report of a crime. Police said in addition to there being no kidnapping, there was also no armed robbery, which police said J'Asiah's father also falsely reported in connection to J'Asiah's disappearance.

"Our first priority remains in locating J’Asiah," DeKalb police said in a Thursday evening update."

From the article posted:

"In an update Thursday night, our crew spotted at least a dozen investigators and East Point's crime scene unit at J'Asiah's father's apartment complex. We saw them bring out bags of evidence and then place them in an investigator's car. "

My question is, WHY the bags of evidence for a crime/charge of false reporting?

Any word on a press conference?

I'm sure this is the only charge they can make stick for now until they have forensic evidence to charge him with something more.

I think it was obvious from his wild story what really happened. May the Investigators continue to uncover answers in this precious child’s disappearance.

I wonder how old the other children in the house are, whether they'd be reliable witnesses.
