I am planning to go with my two daughters. There is also a public thing at the Darby Funeral home Friday night as well at a public funeral Sat afternoon.
His brothers certainly are compelling.![]()
I don't think this is a fair statement. I will not bash the victim's family, but we all make choices in the world. First of all, my understanding is this was not a single mother - she was living in GA by herself and kids while the husband worked elsewhere? This was a choice made by the family.
Obviously, some people have much more than other people and have more choices available. But, if somebody makes a choice to work at an overnight job, then one of the consequences is childcare and how to arrange it to ensure their children are supervised adequately at all times. And, with the ages of this family's kids (1-7 ?), any job the mother took would have provided some issue with childcare since only 1 was in school. That's reality and that's a part of parenting.
In many situations, strict supervision is a good deterrent for these crimes; sometimes though it's not. Obviously as kids get older, the leash needs to be loosened a bit, but not at this age. There are tons of kids in my neighborhood who run around with no supervision at Jorelys' age. Not because their parents work crazy hours and are sleeping - just that I think they have false sense of security. Not me. I have no sense of security.
It would be a wonderful world in which it was only our actions and choices determined the course of our lives. Obviously, as this case demonstrates, this is not always how things turn out. And I might argue that it is rarely true. Respectfully, you cannot name a single choice or action that will ensure any outcome -- you are limited to generalities and accepted "truths."
When we have achieved some positive outcome we like to say that reasons like these truths are the cause. I own my own business, and I like to believe that my talent and hard work are solely responsible. It's not true, but it feels good. And for those who are struggling it is nice to have a treasure map to success, even if that map is drawn in children's crayons on craft paper -- just finish high school, go to college, keep your nose clean, work hard, excercise, eat right, take a walk, hug your kids, be kind, smile, and everything will work out.
It's a comforting fiction; platitudes that allow us to pretend that we have a handle on things, that we know how to make everything turn out right. There's nothing wrong with this illusion, so long as we remember the truth: life is a tornado that wanders around shattering some lives and sparing others, the choices and ethics of the occupants do not diminish its' power or guide its' course, and no matter our choices eventually it will get us all.
If you have any doubt about this just ask Jorely.
Ted Bundy gave an interview to a national tv station before he met his maker. I will never forget Bundy saying that watching porn fueled his addiction to rape and kill.
My heart breaks for him. He sounds so sad and confused.![]()
Sorry for the OT but is something big going on at the moment or is it just my computer? I seem to be in really really really slow motion this morning on this website.
Very well written, but I have to say, if you have a lifetime of trying to make things come out well, trying to make good sound decisions, you're a lot better off than if you knowingly make foolish choices all the time. Back in the day I worked at a Crisis Hotline and let me tell you, those people got themselves where they were by making bad choices. And continued and continued, to make them knowing they were bad choices.
There's a maternity/fertility forum on the net that is just fraught with young women in hopeless situations with inappropriate partners who are ruining their lives and driving them to grinding poverty and hopelessness and all the while these girls are posting questions month after month about could I be pregnant prayers for sticky baby dust everyone! bla bla bla.
Things in life don't always work out. Husbands die unexpectedly, businesses fail, birth control fails, car wrecks happen, etc., but if you at least TRY to make good decisions you'll be way better off. And then society can pick up the financial burden for those where trying wasn't enough.
What we have now is a society where about 1/2 don't even try. IMHO.
Feel for everyone involved . . . where is the manager of this complex & her son (RBs roommate) ?

http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/local_news/Man-Accused-in-Jorelys-Rivera-Murder-to-be-in-CourtThe man accused of killing Jorelys Rivera will make his first court appearance on Thursday.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents and police say Ryan Brunn abducted, sexually assaulted and then killed the 7-year-old at a Canton apartment complex.
Superior Court Judge Frank Mills is to preside over Brunn's first court appearance. He is expected to address the media and attorneys at 1:30 p.m. to see if there is any objection to having cameras present for the first appearance.
Mills tells FOX 5 that he does not expect any protest on that issue. If that is the case, cameras will be allowed in the courtroom when Brunn makes his appearance.
Without further information, I am wondering if his stay with family in Virginia might have been the result of his being sent away after getting in some kind of trouble. Or else a cover story for where he was during a stay in juvie?
OT, but everytime I see your tagline, and Eleanor Roosevelt's comment that small minds discuss people, and I think of all of us sitting here whiling away hours discussing people . . . and I read that quote . . . I get up and take a break and do stuff other than sitting here talking endlessly about people with everyone. ;D
Like that hourglass in the opening scenes of Days of our Lives. Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives. THAT image got me shot up right off the couch doing something meaningful.
Anyway, your quote reminds me of that hourglass, and makes me rethink all the time I spend here. Very convicting.![]()
