I'm tired and haven't read every post, but yesterday on HLN I was watching Vinnie P and he had a tenant on named Heather. She said she reported to the GBI that a little boy was missing for a few hours a month or so before little Jorely was murdered. She reported talking to one of the maintenance guys and he said it would be very easy to grab one of these kids and get them in one of those empty apartments. Wonder if her tip lead to the murderer. Glad she reported that, every little thing could lead to something big that's why it's good to report everything even if you think it's nothing.

GBI Director Vernon Keenan identified the man as Ryan Brunn, who was taken into custody around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect has been assigned two public defenders and has a first court appearance Thursday

I don't think (and this is completely MOO) that the roommate ran. The roommate's mom worked in the office of the complex and got RB the job.

Again, MOO, that roommate knows and, more especially SAW a whole lot. Maybe even saw the clothes he was wearing when he got back to the apt right afterward.

Possibly LE has the roommate at an undisclosed location - maybe mom's? Keep him laying low until its all sorted out. I know if it was my son's roommate - I would be hysterical and want him kept safe until its all finished. KWIM?

Good point. It was said Ryan was under surveillance.

I would assume that if LE thinks Ryan is a murderer they might have taken steps to protect his roommate. There was a lot going on the past 2 days.

I am surprised that this was not mentioned on the brother's FB page. I also wonder how this brother knew that the roommate was not around. We were looking at the FB page right after the arrest and he commented on where was Cody. He must of been in touch with his brother prior to the arrest. Lots of facts that have not come out I think. jmo

I believe both his brothers said that he was in touch with them and that he relayed to both of them that he thought that he was a suspect and that he would be arrested. The interesting thing is that the image he portrayed to the outside world was the opposite.

The great news is that in this case, for once, I not only think we will eventually have these answers, but I think justice will be served as well.

We live in the wealthiest nation on earth, yet this single mom is working the graveyard shift at a meat packing plant, making trash money and no benefits, no healthcare, one paycheck or illness away from ruin. Her beautiful kids are playing alone, not because they aren't loved (you can clearly see that they are) but because that's the world we allow to exist. A world in which profit and bonuses are more important than security cameras. So her kids play alone, surrounded by neighbors who know the names of the fake celebrities on their reality TV programs but don't know or care about the people who live ten feet away.

Although I am not sure how much money she makes at her plant, I work for the same company as she does in a different state. We do have health insurance and benefits and the health insurance is not expensive compared to other companies where I have worked.

I am horrified to think what this poor baby went through but the two are not related.

I'm sure the brothers are in shock over this. I just hope, (as in other murders, crimes) we don't see the enabling factor come out. Sometimes, it's difficult for family and friends to learn to accept what their love ones are capable of doing. They may not know they live with monsters.

Whatever "pathetic excuses" are going to be claimed, (temp. insanity?) it won't be good enough to explain the deliberate torture he inflicted on Jorelys. This monster won't be free to play out his fantasies again. Was he bored, looking for a thrill, whatever. He has no soul, must be a disease that is becoming more prevalent. Why must we provide humane food, shelter, protection, and legal representation to this non-human entity. Such a waste. We should offer the condemned a choice of two doors: one that is crawling with poisonous snakes, and the other would depend on what might be his worst nightmare. Pick one.

I don't think this is a fair statement. I will not bash the victim's family, but we all make choices in the world. First of all, my understanding is this was not a single mother - she was living in GA by herself and kids while the husband worked elsewhere? This was a choice made by the family.

Obviously, some people have much more than other people and have more choices available. But, if somebody makes a choice to work at an overnight job, then one of the consequences is childcare and how to arrange it to ensure their children are supervised adequately at all times. And, with the ages of this family's kids (1-7 ?), any job the mother took would have provided some issue with childcare since only 1 was in school. That's reality and that's a part of parenting.

In many situations, strict supervision is a good deterrent for these crimes; sometimes though it's not. Obviously as kids get older, the leash needs to be loosened a bit, but not at this age. There are tons of kids in my neighborhood who run around with no supervision at Jorelys' age. Not because their parents work crazy hours and are sleeping - just that I think they have false sense of security. Not me. I have no sense of security.

I'm wondering if the perp was stalking Jorelys, perhaps even talking to her from time to time ... and somehow learned something of the plan (that we've had reported here) for her to spend Christmas in Puerto Rico (with her father, I think...?)

Perhaps he feared she was about to slip away "from him" -- that she perhaps might not return from the trip. Maybe that pushed him out of fantasy into his horrible action.

Thinking along those lines: Does anyone know when Jorelys' Christmas holidays from school were to begin...?

I'd like to know if the had pictures of Jorely. I have a hunch he's been watching her since he moved into the apartments.

I'll bet he was - pedophiles are experts at grooming their victims before they assault them.

Logically I agree that this is likely true. Obviously, he had some kind of murder fantasies that he acted upon -- it is not as if he woke up one day last week and said, “I’m up for a change of pace, I think I’ll try murder!”

The question in my mind, and likely everyone's mind, is what inspired this. He might have had kiddie on his computer, but it seems to me that blaming this on kiddie is as intellectually lazy as blaming a conventional adult rape or murder on adult , or video games, or rock music. It is at best a symptom. At best.

Ultimately though, and I say this as someone who spent several years working intimately with some of the most dangerous psychopaths and serial killers in the western united states, I am not sure that it matters. Some people are just bad -- and I am aware of the irony of saying something that intellectually lazy myself after being critical above. Hypocrisy, thy name is Chris.

Ted Bundy gave an interview to a national tv station before he met his maker. I will never forget Bundy saying that watching fueled his addiction to rape and kill.

Ryan Brunn lived in Dahlonega until a month ago when he moved to Canton to take the maintenance job. Ryan Brunn also previously lived in Dumfries, Va. No one answered a knock on the door of a relative's home there Wednesday.

I think they deduced it was well-planned from the fact that the perp had to have duct tape, plastic ties, and trash bag ready to go, and have the vacant apartment picked out and equipped with a mattress. Also probably figured that he has already planned to use the compacter. Presumably he also had to know that Jorelys was unsupervised and would walk past the bldg with the vacant apartment. Then he had to kind of hang around and wait for his opportunity. (Guess there was no chance this particular apartment would be shown to a potential tenant while he was using it??)

(Totally OT - This reminds me of a theory I had regarding Caylee Anthony. Since Casey apparently knew that the first apartment she showed police (supposedly Zanny's) was vacant (since that would give credence to her story that the babysitter had apparently skipped town), I always wondered if perhaps Casey was leaving Caylee there in a drugged sleep while she went out, or was (even worse) providing Caylee for the use of someone who used the vacant apartment for his activities. At the time it seemed far-fetched, but with all this talk about unsecured vacant apartments, I am wondering again.)

Without further information, I am wondering if his stay with family in Virginia might have been the result of his being sent away after getting in some kind of trouble. Or else a cover story for where he was during a stay in juvie?

Interesting theory. I would assume, however, that the killer would not dispose of a diary containing this information with the body.

But police might well have found it in his apartment.

Unless he didn't know there was a diary in her little purse. I wouldn't think a 7 year old kept a diary, she must have been very smart. God bless and keep her precious little soul.
