Athens-Clarke County Police Department

ACCPD continues to investigate the disappearance of Joshua Jackson and Derrick Ruff and needs the public’s assistance in locating the men who were last seen together December 18th, 2018. Ruff was reported missing on December 20th and Jackson on December 21st of 2018.

Over the last two weeks, ACCPD detectives have followed up on dozens of leads. They have spoken with family and friends in an effort to determine Jackson’s and Ruff’s whereabouts and states of mind. In cooperation with the Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD), multiple searches have been conducted including the use of K-9 and aerial support.

The vehicle they were last seen in together was located by GCPD in an isolated section of a neighborhood. GCPD investigators processed the vehicle, and while ACCPD detectives are awaiting the final report, nothing that raised suspicion was noted about the vehicle. ACCPD also spent several days with GCPD detectives and investigators following up leads in an effort to locate Jackson and Ruff.

“From the start of this case,” stated Derek Scott, lead investigator in the case, “we have relied heavily on the public’s assistance and again ask that anyone with information about the whereabouts of Joshua and Derrick to contact the ACCPD.”

A Crime Stoppers reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the location of Jackson and Ruff. Crime Stoppers Tip Line-706-705-4775.

Police have 'grave concerns' for fate of missing Athens men

The men, both 25, were last seen together Dec. 18 on Habersham Drive in a SUV belonging to Ruff’s girlfriend, Athens-Clarke County police said.

The vehicle was found abandoned three days later in Lawrenceville, according to Lt. Derek Scott, the commanding officer for missing person cases at the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

Investigators who processed the vehicle found no evidence of foul play, but Scott said there was great concern about Jackson’s and Ruff’s welfare due to the amount of time that has passed since they were last seen or heard from.

According to Scott, the men’s friends and family members indicated that it was unusual for them to be out of contact for an extended amount of time.

The disappearances were even more suspicious because the men went missing four days prior to Jackson’s birthday and just before Christmas and New Year’s, Scott said.

The moped was later found at Oak Hill Apartments. Gerald Jackson said he filed a missing report after being told by a resident of Oak Hill that his son and Ruff left her home on Dec. 18 in an SUV owned by Ruff’s girlfriend.

The woman said Joshua Jackson told her that he and Ruff would return to her home at around 3 a.m. Dec. 19

Body found in Cobb County field after fire

The body has now been identified as 53-year-old Marietta resident Mark Foster.

So far, police say they're not sure if the man died from the fire or was dead before the blaze. Investigators say there are no signs of fowl play and it appears to be a tragic accident.

Really?

Missing Athens men found murdered in storage unit

According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, Derrick Ruff and Joshua Lee Jackson were found murdered inside a storage unit at the Extra Space Storage located on Lawrenceville Highway in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Police said it appeared they had been shot to death.

( another Darwin Award for somebody to put it in their own unit?)

Two people have been identified as suspects in the case. Lesley Green, 30, of Stone Mountain, is currently in custody at the Gwinnett County Jail and has been charged with two counts of concealing the death of another. Robert Carlisle, 32, of Lithonia, remains at large. He's also wanted on two warrants for concealing the death of another.

Police said as more suspects are identified, more people could be charged in the case.

The murders appear to be gang-related, according to police.

Missing men found dead in Georgia storage unit; Four suspects named

Police charged a fourth suspect on Wednesday in connection with the deaths of two men whose bodies were found in a Georgia storage unit last month.

[...]

“As more suspects are identified, additional people could be charged. As of now, detectives are still trying to determine the link between the storage facility unit with the suspects and victims,” the department said in a statement. “The renters of the storage unit have been cooperative with this investigation.”

Officers said the deaths were being investigated as a double homicide, but murder charges had not been filed as of early Thursday, court records showed. Police said their killings could be connected to other deaths in the area.

Four men — Lesley Green, 30; Shabbazz Guidry, 24; Robert Carlisle, 32; and Justin Davis, 29 — have been named as suspects in the case, but only Green and Guidry are in custody.

Police said the motive appears to be gang-related.
