I'll admit I'm judging her. She is the prime suspect in her child's disappearance and death.

She did numerous things to conceal that and was very calculated in doing so.

Childhood trauma is real. I experienced it and still suffer from flashbacks, nightmares etc. Drug addiction is real. You have to break those chains. If she is suffering from something other than being a disgusting, narcisstic, selfish murderer then maybe she should have taken some of her drug money or free services offered to her and got help for that.

No one will ever convince me of any possible explanation or excuse for a parent who kills and throws their baby in the trash like they never mattered
I'm so sorry Tbg. There's no excuse for your suffering. :(

As a non-mom, I'm curious... is it a thing for a toddler that age and of that level of dexterity, to put that blue frosting on his own forehead like that? If not, why would someone do that? I was a sensitive kid, I'd have been hurt, lol, even at that age...
I wouldn't read too much into that particular photo. First birthday "smash cakes" are a popular trend, and some kids get SUPER messy. There's tons of videos on YouTube where the kids end up with frosting on their foreheads (the kiddo at 2:15 in this video, for instance shows exactly how that would happen)

In my opinion, it was put there by someone other than Quinton. Likely for the photo op.

Press Conference

13th Oct.

Chief - As you know, our investigation over the last 8 days has led us to the heartbreaking conclusion that 20 month old Quinton Simon is deceased. We have named his mother, Leilani Simon, as a primary suspect in Quinton's disappearance and death. We have not made an arrest or filed any charges at this time. From the moment we received the 911 call reporting Quinton missing, we have conducted an exhaustive search for him. Sadly, we still have not found Quinton, but our search and our investigation will continue and it will continue with every available resource we have, in order to give Quinton's family closure and see that justice is served in this case.

I would like to thank the FBI for their invaluable expertise and assistance during our search and for the help they will continue to provide moving forward. We know that millions of people fell in love with Quinton Simon the moment they saw his face and learned of his disappearance. We have seen the outpouring of love and concern for this child and the outpouring of grief at the latest developments in this case. The men and women of the Chatham County Police Department share that same sadness, but we also feel very determined to keep working as hard as we can and for as long as we have to, to find Quinton. Now, Special Agent Clark will have some comments and then I'll return with some closing statements.

FBI - From the moment the FBI became involved in this investigation, our primary goal was to assist the Chatham County PD in bringing Quinton home and holding anyone responsible for his disappearance accountable. To the Chatham County community - our heart breaks along with yours in trying to comprehend what we believe happened here. The FBI, along with our law enforcement partners have followed every lead, every tip and every piece of evidence to get to this point, and we will continue to do so.

The FBI entered this case less than 3 hours after Quinton was reported missing. The FBI has provided the Chatham County PD resources in this case, and those resources have come in the form of investigative, analytical and technical assistance. For the past week over 40 FBI agents - analyst's, task force officers and professional support staff who live in the postal Georgia area have worked tirelessly and continuously on this investigation. Last Wednesday we mobilized our Child Abduction Rapid Deployment Team, the CARD team in short, which brings with it experts from across the country who specialise in missing children cases. As needed and as the investigation continues to progress, the FBI stands ready to deploy additional resources. In closing, we share the sorrow felt by millions and pledge every resource to assist the Chatham County PD in finding little Quinton.

Chief - In closing, I understand the intense interest in this case. I know everyone has a lot of questions. I'll answer what I can but remember, our focus must be on not doing anything that jeopardises the integrity of this investigation or bringing justice for Quinton.

Reporter - We heard from the family last night that you might be targeting a landfill - Can you tell us about that?

Chief - I cannot disclose any information relative to that. We will follow the evidence and when our evidence leads us to search anything specifically or any specific geographic area we will communicate that to you at that time.

Reporter - (asks about the evidence that led them to conclude that Quinton is deceased)

Chief - I cannot get into any specifics relative to evidence. What I can say is, the evidence that we have so far, based on multiple search warrants and interviews, has led us to the conclusion that Quinton is deceased. The investigation doesn't end, you know, right there. We will continue to investigate this until it's final conclusion.

Reporter - With no charges brought against (inaudible) - What made you think it was necessary to identify his mother as the main suspect?

Chief - Because the evidence has led us to that point and to this point today.

Reporter - Why has she not been arrested?

Chief - Because we will only do that when we feel that we have everything that we need to. We only get one shot at this, right? We're going to do it right. We're going to do the best that we can. We're going to use the resources at our disposal. We're thankful to the FBI and when we get to that point and we feel comfortable, in counsel with the FBI and the ADA, that's when we will reach that conclusion.

Reporter - Is anyone else being considered for criminal charges?

Chief - At this time, no.

Reporter - (inaudible)

Chief - The evidence in the case has led us to this conclusion.

Reporter - Was there a date where you found the evidence that led you to this conclusion? Because, obviously, earlier this week when you asked, you said you did not suspect (inaudible)

Chief - The accumulation of evidence over these last 8 days has led us to this conclusion today.

Reporter - Do you have an idea where Quinton might be?

Chief - We do not have any specifics at this time. I can't answer that question with any level of specificity.

Reporter - Do you know where Leilani's other 2 children are?

Chief - I can't answer that question.

Reporter - Do you know where Leilani is?

Chief - I don't know where she is currently, today.

Reporter - Is there any chance anyone else, besides Leilani, will be charged?

Chief - There is no one else who is a suspect, at this time. Leilani is the main focus of this investigation.

Reporter - Are you not concerned that you've now named you're number one suspect out loud to the public? Is there not a concern that she might take off?

Chief - I can't get into any specifics, but we don't believe she's a flight risk at this time.

All right. Thank you. Appreciate your questions. Have a great day.

Gabriel's case haunts me to this day...........
After that, I swore I wouldn't follow any more child abuse cases on WS, yet here I am.
Me too. Can't believe that I followed this one as soon as it hit this site. I think it was his beautiful little face. It's always so painful when the little one is deceased.

I get it. Completely. I'm sorry you experienced what you experienced. No child should experience anything but love, happiness & security. <3

I think this is actually what it looks like. Quinton is eating the cake without lifting it or using his hands and so his entire face is planted in the cake.

LE needs to make sure that there are no children or animals with LS. I hope DFS has emergency procedures in place to remove the baby girl. LS needs Depo injections, IMO. I know my last sentence, before this one, isn't nice but this has to stop.

I respectfully disagree. DJH loves her grandchildren, and a family love is greater than any babysitter. I think the babysitter owes DJH an apology. I pray that DJH finds strength and support from her community and the rest of the family. JMO
With respect, I disagree.

If family love ALWAYS was greater than any love, Quinton would be alive.

IMO, the grandmother loved him. However, she made a fatal mistake in leaving Leilani unsupervised with her children.

In my state, that would be illegal. A parent who loses custody is demonstrably unable to care properly for a child. Whether it's neglect, abuse, or a parent on drugs who is incapable of providing proper care, that parent is not permitted to have unsupervised visitation with a child. If a court determined that a parent loses custody, that typically means the parent is the worst-case scenario for the child. Judges prefer to keep a family together when possible.

I have a relative who lost custody due to drugs. I was one of the people who was granted supervisory rights, but first I had to be cleared by ACS (our child welfare agency) to assure I would supervise properly when this relative visited her child.

It was awkward and uncomfortable to follow around a mother and child, and I was just one of several supervisors appointed, but it was illegal for this person to be alone with her child until she eventually won back parental and custodial rights.

JMO and experience.

The real question, is that if Grandma had custody of the kids, she was supposed to be the primary caregiver...and it sounds like she just let her daughter, the bio mom, take over caregiving. Which, she had already been assessed by CPS as being incapable of providing care for her children.

Grandma is going to have some problems here. INMO.

Yeah. Whatever. Has any Mom on this thread slept in until 9 am, when you have a toddler and a baby?! I saw a picture of myself, about 30 years ago, I had dark circles under my eyes from lack of sleep. I never went back to bed until 9 or 10 or whenever.
Nope,even as a Grandma I don't sleep in.

Why would the babysitter owe the Grandmother an apology?.
The babysitter didn't barge in to BH home and accuse her of stealing the baby.

My son smeared blue frosting all over his face and the more the other kids laughed the more he did it, it was adorable and hysterical!

Does anyone know where LS lived before moving back in with BJH? Wondering what her support system looked like. Also, do we know what types of jobs LS has held if any? TIA

There are about 5 Facebook pages under her name.... over the past years. The most recent she has decided to declare herself "Leilani Youngkin" This one FB page indicates she was working at some liquor store... but who knows for sure.

We have seen nothing mentioned about the brother, PS, who was living in the house, or her father, or the fathers of her other two children.

I really thought that some reporters from somewhere would have been digging out this information and informing us. But, nadda.

Where is the Daily Mail when you need them????

Soooooo, I also, keep wondering if there is any support system out there for her. Any at all.

She, apparently had a love/hate with her mother, given the reporting of police visits to the house. The unfair treatment of the care taker by BJH shows such volatile behavior.... hard to think that that didn't affect LS along the way.....

everything is a moo moo.............. but I really do keep thinking who around this 22 year old tried or failed.

DJH was out of state due to her work. Step-grandfather however was out of town, but we don't know if he would have been home after work that day. DJH had every expectation that the babysitter would have the children during the day, like always. If it was a fatal mistake to leave town to go to work, then how do families provide for themselves. I also could not shut my door if my children said they just had a baby and they needed a place to stay. I have to look at the entire picture, and I believe DJH was doing what she could, including serving notice that her daughter and bf was to be evicted, and also trying to prod her to accepting responsibility. As far as it being illegal, states have their own rules for children being around their birth mothers. I don't know what Ga. rules are, my state rules are not that strict, birth parents are allowed to be around their children, even though they don't have custody, unless they are proven to be harmful to their children. JMO

I thought I lost site of my then toddler while walking past the entrance and exit doors at a target. We had just left the restroom because as everyone knows you can't walk into a store with a toddler without them having to pee immediately. I turned around and didn't see her and practically knocked myself out running at the doors. The instant and absolute horror I felt!! Turns out she was right beside me. But in that moment the world became enormous.

Happened to me too, when one of mine was in a big store with me.... Just as you, the memory and the horror of those moments still haunt me to this day......
