Would that come through the juvenile court though? Or would that go through the criminal court? Like abandonment, felony child abuse, etc, those tend to get charged in criminal court, don't they?

Any legal bods around to help us out?

I don't know anything about court besides what I've seen in movies and TV shows; When people yell/have verbal outbursts/disrupt court/continue talking out of turn, Judges on TV often warn them and say they're going to hold them in contempt and then the bailiff escorts them out- Is that what could have happened here or is that just inaccurate Hollywood movie stuff?

ETA: found this explanation online, (though its from a Washington juvenile courts site, not from Grandmas state) so guess it could be any of the following possibilities.....

"Contempt of Court” is defined as:

  • Disorderly, contemptuous, or insolent behavior toward the judge while holding the court, tending to impair its authority, or to interrupt the due course of a trial or other judicial proceedings;
  • Disobedience of any lawful judgment, decree, order, or process of the court;
  • Refusal as a witness to appear, be sworn, or, without lawful authority, to answer a question; or
  • Refusal, without lawful authority, to produce a record, document, or other object.5

Agreed. With the addition that I hope his siblings (who are innocent in this and never let Quinton down because it is impossible for them to have done so) are placed with permanency in loving homes, and that his older sib gets a buttload of therapy to help process his life as it has been up until now as well as he possibly can.

from MissMalowe's link: re theoretical, possible contempt charges
"Disobedience of any lawful judgment, decree, order, or process of the court;"

Was Billie Jo ever issued a gag order by the court? If something like that were ever breached, I'd think that could affect her daughter getting a fair trial.

I see this arrest appears to be under gag order according to the above report from NoeticSoul but did she have a previous gag order in effect, re speaking about the case? Anyone have a link to support that?

According to the video at this link, this is all involving the custody court case. (Leilani's 2 surviving children) The news reporter said the case is sealed and Billie Jo (and everyone else involved in the juvenile custody court case) were placed under a gag order.
Billie Howell, grandmother of Quinton Simon, arrested
(report itself doesnt have as much info as the video with the news reporter)

  • Billie Jo Betterton, 45, was booked into a Georgia detention center Monday
  • Authorities say the arrest is unrelated to her grandson Quinton's murder
Looking pretty rough these days .....

It appears the courts are using her legal name, Betterton ?

So, was she not married to Leilani's stepdad (Howell ?) ?

As far as the custody of the siblings, they may be better off in the care of the bio dads, and if that is not possible ; maybe placed in foster care, or put up for adoption to a home where they'll be lovingly cared for ?
Imo.

I hope that's what is. IMO she should be charged for that.
Ita.
Quinton did not have to die, it was so preventable.

Since the reason for BJB's arrest is sealed, it could be anything !

bolding mine.

There is still a chance for the surviving siblings if they're placed elsewhere.

I said the day I saw her first interview right after little Quinton disappeared that there was something 'off' with her behavior. I stand by that assessment still. Poor baby boy.

MOO
Agreed.
Poor Quinton, and the surviving children !
I hate writing "surviving". :(
They should still have their brother with them, alive and unharmed.

From your DailyMail link "Betterton has a lengthy rap sheet that includes prior arrests for prostitution, assault and possession of cocaine."

Poor baby Q.

It certainly does boggle the mind. IMO there should be an investigation into the local CPS. How could they miss this information!

They are live now

Hopefully, someone might be able to find a recording of the live? WSAV always seems to start talking over the questions part for some reason.

From your link :
"Malice murder" sounds very close to premeditation, which is one of the more serious of murder accusations.
As in, not like accidental/vehicular homicide, etc.

She either thought about killing Quinton beforehand, or had time to stop and think whilst committing said murder -- and still chose not to do so ?
Pretty calculating and so evil !
Imo.

Leilani Simon was indicted on felony charges on Wednesday by a Chatham County grand jury.

The live video is included on this page
