Though his remains were partial, it is entirely possible to tell breaks that occurred at time of death from those that occurred postmortem. If enough of him was found, they may have been able to see those breaks. If the object she used had a particular shape, for example, was square or had a defined edge, it may have left tool marks in the bone.

An example for illustration. A hammer leaves very identifiable marks in a skull, whether the head is used, the claw end, or the side. There may not be such clear marks in Quinton's bones, but there may be tool marks that show he was beaten with an object (that the damage wasn't caused by, say, a fall), and that that object more than likely inflicted injury sufficient to cause death. Those marks would be different from the postmortem damage, because they occurred while Quinton's body was alive, while he could still bleed and bruise, and while his bones were still supple and flexible.

Tl;dr, it is possible to see tool marks on bones, and tell that those marks were left when the person was alive, rather than sometime after death, ie. in the garbage truck or at the landfill. It's very difficult to do, but this is what forensic anthropologists train for. They're the folks whose whole bag is bones. They leave the soft tissues to the pathologists.

Also, if he was bludgeoned to death, it may be why they were so sure he was dead so early. They may have found castoff patterns in the house, visible with the naked eye or with luminol, composed of blood and/or brain tissue. I speculated early on that they'd found some kind of biological evidence not compatible with life, a large amount of blood, or something like brain tissue, and I still think I have a good chance of being correct.

May have found his skull.

I feel like LE have evidence of (allot of) blood spatter from luminol testing the inside of that house. I hate even saying that, but I hope that they do and she goes directly to death row when found guilty. all moo
I totally agree with you.

I can't read the details of the indictment, I can only hope that little Quinton's passing went quickly. This Momster needs to never see the light of day as a free person again.

So very sad and sorry for this baby boy who didn't stand a chance in a house full of unfit adults.

crying-tears.gifThis is so incredibly sad. Just heartbreaking. How could anyone beat that beautiful child to death and then dispose of him in a neighbourhood dumpster ... and lie and lie and lie to the authorities. The only silver lining here is that the other two children will have a chance at becoming part of a loving and supportive family. I just can't believe how sick some people are, and that they are able to have and care for children. You have to 'qualify' to adopt a child, even a pet! But anyone can have a baby. I'm just so disappointed in humanity right now. I'll need to recover. Moo

She is charged with contempt of court, right? The article I read indicated that the contempt arose from her dealings with the juvenile court. Perhaps she was ordered to keep Quinton from his mom, or not allow them to be together unsupervised? (I don’t know much about this case). If she failed to uphold those orders, she would be in contempt.

In my state, contempt can be filed in civil court and it can become a civil or criminal contempt. But criminal contempts can be filed by the state, in criminal court.

Makes me wonder in what 'world' did she gain custody of these little ones in the first place

They were failed on so many different levels and little Q, the ultimate FAIL. smh moo
So what is the story of this case?

What is grandma’s background?
What are things she’s done or said to fail Quinton or in the aftermath of his disappearance, we’re problematic?

Same questions about the mother.

Oh, gosh, where to start. As far as I can recall, there's generational stuff going on here. Drugs are a factor. People being young parents is a factor. None of this is justification, and I don't know what can be said without bumping into TOS. As far as we know at this time, LS (mother) is the only one to be charged directly in relation to this crime. Gma who has been held by order of the juvenile court wasn't even in the same city when little Quinton was killed. Whether her charge relates to Quinton, to the other kids, or purely to her dealings with the juvenile court, we may never know. She had custody of Quinton and his older brother at the time of Quinton's death. I don't know if any of this is helpful. A lot of this case has played out on social media and Youtube, so there is a lot I can't refer to directly.

IMO, everyone in Quinton's life failed him. LS, his mother, as well as BJ his grandmother.

IMO, Quinton's life was in peril long before he was reported missing.

May He Rest In Peace and May Justice be Served.

@gitana1 Mostly what other posters have replied. Can't say too much history of the grandmother without violating TOS (IF she is still considered a victim) Generally, both females have extensive criminal backgrounds and the egg donor was an active addict and was in the throes of her addiction and was being evicted from the home (just as she was ordered to pay child support!) when left alone with little Q to care for him. And he wound up beaten to death and in a trash can.

eta the grandmother was not at home at the time the murder occurred-- she was off 'working' in IL.

And imo the grandmother shouldn't have had custody of the boys at all in the first place--the behavior that she displayed in public after he went 'missing' was no better than her murderous offspring (she has birthed two murderers now). The grandmother deserves to be charged with child endangerment resulting in death, if not more.

Thanks so much, everyone!

Was the mother allowed to be alone with Quinton? Do we know that?

Yes, the mother was allowed by the grandparents to be alone with her children while they were both out of town. However, Leilani's brother and her boyfriend were at the house also.

The regular routine was that a babysitter who lived in the neighborhood would watch the kids during the day and often also kept them overnight. The day before Quinton went missing the babysitter said she didn't keep the kids that night due to some conflict. The next morning at 5:30 she received a text that they wouldn't need her to babysit that day. The babysitter said that was out of the ordinary routine.

So it's unclear how often Quinton's grandmother BJ intentionally left Leilani alone with the kids as our current information is that she wasn't aware of the situation that night/day until Leilani called her to say Quinton was missing.

From your DailyMail link "Betterton has a lengthy rap sheet that includes prior arrests for prostitution, assault and possession of cocaine."

Poor baby Q.
It's looking like this poor child was doomed before he was delivered.
No way to run or hide, but he still had that sweet look and that sweet, beautiful smile.

Quinton Simon's Mother Allegedly Beat Toddler to Death with 'Object' After Using Drugs: Prosecutors

The indictment against Leilani Simon alleges she caused Quinton "cruel and excessive physical pain" before his death

Quinton Simon's mother allegedly beat the 20-month-old Georgia boy to death with an "object" in early October while high on a controlled substance, prosecutors say.
A 19-count indictment, filed Wednesday, charges 22-year-old Leilani Simon with three counts of murder, as well as making false statements, concealing
a death and other counts.
The indictment, which was posted online by WSAV, alleges that on Oct. 5, Simon used an undetermined object to severely beat Quinton, causing "serious bodily injury" and ultimately causing the child's death.
The indictment alleges this "malicious" assault caused Quinton "cruel and excessive physical pain" before his death.

Guess Grandma was wrong, (surprise surprise).

Quinton didn’t drown by accident.

Mommy did drugs and then beat her little boy to death.

What a despicable, vile waste of skin.

Yes, BJ thought Quinton drowned in the bathtub and the babysitter thought he drowned in the pool. Both were wrong.

So many people are willing to look for an accident in these cases to explain the death of an innocent child but the reality is that his own mother murdered him. It's so hard to understand and accept that a mother could be so cruel and cold as to deliberately beat her child to death but Leilani shows us that it is possible. Some people are just born evil IMO.

Yes, sad but true about evil people. Mix that with drugs, and evil gets guts.

bolding mine.
Agreed.
Esp. the bolded , I would love to see the surviving siblings placed in a permanent, loving and responsible home.
A home free from abuse and neglect, and with no fear of harm.
A small silver lining.
And it's sad that it took the death of Quinton to achieve this !
Imo.

Just curious but has there been any mention of abuse on the other child? I recall that there is also an infant younger than Quinton, so wondering if he was the only one, or has the older son exhibited any signs of physical abuse.
