I know many people following the trial are focusing on the state having five hours for closing arguments, which if you use the APS cheating RICO trial as reference, it's not unusual.
In the APS trial, the state also had five hours allocated for closing arguments.

Closing arguments today on day 166 in the YSL RICO trial. The state requested 5 hours for their closing and each of the defense teams have 2 hours. Judge Whitaker wanted to get the closings finished today so it will be a long day in court.

Jury has been brought out. Schardt and Doug Weinstein just said they don't wish to present evidence on behalf of their case.

ADA Christian Adkins will start closing arguments for the state.

It appears Adkins and Hylton will take most of the closings on behalf of the state.

Adkins is going to talk about RICO and using social media posts.

Adkins is walking the jury through their "duty" as jurors as they reach a verdict in this case.

Adkins is not using a microphone so it might be hard for people on the stream and overflow room to hear him.

Adkins seems to be making an analogy about the length of trial and comparing it to him running a marathon.

Adkins is telling the jury what evidence they will be able to use in their deliberations.

Even with half the courtroom empty now that only two defendants remain, the media still can't see the jury so we don't know if they are paying attention to Adkins, as he reaches the 15-minute mark.

Adkins just made note of former co-defendants Antonio Sledge, Walter Murphy, Wunnie Lee, Antonio Sumlin and YSL members Kenneth Copeland, Quindarius Zachary who testified during trial.

Adkins is now focusing on bias and motive for their testimony starting with Kenneth Copeland and playing a clip in which he said "YSL for life."

Adkins just explained what party to the crime means by using an example of four people deciding to rob a bank.

He is using it to show how Stillwell and Kendrick can be considered party to the crimes alleged in the indictment.

Adkins is going to focus on the RICO charge and gang charges against Stillwell and Kendrick.

It appears Adkins microphone just went out so it will be hard to hear for a bit, but the most important part is ensuring the jury can hear him.

They just gave Adkins a new mic but doesn't seem to be working that great either.

No objections so far from defense attorneys.

"The crime is the agreement, the over acts let you know that is real," Adkins said.

Adkins says before walking the jury through the overt acts alleged in the indictment.

The state showed the jury this slide showing members of “YSL Criminal Enterprise”

1732556489912.png

Adkins has started to go through the overt acts in the indictment to show how they violated RICO.

He is skipping a lot of the overt acts.

Adkins is arguing that Christian Eppinger made sure people knew they could see he was YSL to increase notoriety while committing crimes, including a May 11, 2016 armed robbery.

Adkins is introducing Donovan Thomas’ murder as an overt act that shows the criminal enterprise but said Hylton will go into more detail.

I won’t post it here but the next slide has an autopsy picture of Thomas.

1732556557182.png

Adkins has moved on to the Jamari Holmes murder on February 23, 2019.

Rodalius Ryan is already serving a life sentence for the Holmes murder.

Adkins is now talking about Shymel Drinks murder, saying that it's similar to Donovan Thomas' murder.

"It is 100% gang related," Adkins said about the Drinks murder. "They did it for YSL. They did it to get revenge."

Adkins has reached the 1-hour mark in his closing argument.

Adkins is focusing on the major crimes (murders, shootings, aggravated assaults) YSL members are alleged to have committed in furtherance of gang in closing arguments to make sure jurors remember them before they start deliberating.

The first physical display has been brought out by the state.

1732557327357.png

Adkins is going through objectives that YSL, as a criminal enterprise, allegedly have including attacking law enforcement, obtaining money, weapons and property.

Adkins is going back to the YSL members who have testified during trial and how they acted on the stand and how they thought about what their answer was going to be.

Again, most of us can't see the jury because there is a wall that blocks our view, however, Law and Crime's camera man can see them when he stands up.

Replying to @cathyrusson and @JozsefPapp_
JURY OBSERVATION: from our Photog in the courtroom - Jurors seem engaged, some are leaned forward taking in the closing, some are taking notes. There’s one juror who is leaned back and her body language doesn’t seem too interested.
We took a short break. Juror's lunch is already here so Judge Whitaker said Adkins will continue for about 30 minutes before we break for lunch.

Love keeps paying attention to Adkins and then looks at the jury to make sure they are paying attention as well.

For those wondering about who remains on the jury: 8 women, 4 men - 7 Black women, 3 Black men, 1 white man and 1 white woman. Only four alternates remain, but they won't be part of deliberations.

Adkins is now talking about "waves of violence" which started with a first wave in 2015 and a second "wave of violence" took pace starting 2019-2020 and it's ongoing.

Seems that Adkins is going through his closing argument in a faster pace ever since the morning break ahead of lunch break for jurors and everybody.

"Take them at their word, don't take mine," Adkins says as he continues to play phone calls, videos from YSL members.

Adkins argues YSL is about: deception, intimidation, destruction and death.

"There is no conclusion but guilty on count 1 RICO," Adkins said, as he concludes his section of closing arguments.

"The state hasn't proven their case," Schardt said about the state's presentation of evidence.

Schardt said he wants to acknowledge the time and patience the jury has shown throughout this whole case."It's greatly appreciated," Schardt said.

Schardt emphasized how much time the jury has already spent in this case.

Schardt is using the podium to make sure he can be heard and to be able to look at his notes.

1732568799300.png
Schard is focusing on how the jury should consider expert witnesses instead of just taking their word as facts and truth.

Schardt said jurors should consider the training, manner of testifying, interest or lack of interest in the case and personal credibility when determining how credible expert witnesses are.

Schardt is going through the major expert law enforcement witnesses that testify and talking about how willing they were to talk with the state compared to defense attorneys.

Schardt just displayed the cover of YoungThug's album Super Slimey to show how clueless experts were about some of the stuff the state was introducing as evidence.

1732568822480.png
Schardt is now going after some of the testimony Viverito had, including the Nichols' story that had the song lyrics.

Schardt tells the jury to not believe anything expert witnesses said throughout this trial because they are not credible.

Schardt is making sure when he speaks he makes eye contact with jurors, moving his head from side to side.

Schardt talked about how YoungThug's success helped inspire Stillwell and try to achieve the same level of success.

Schardt described YSL as a "group of young men" with many of them musicians. He makes note how famous people wipe their nose and everyone can do it to show that YSL is not a gang and no need to be affiliate.

"He didn't kill Donovan Thomas," Schardt said about his client. "He didn't kill Shymel Drinks.”

Schardt is using a picture Brian Steel introduced from LeBron James wiping his nose to show that it doesn't mean that LeBron is in a gang or a gang member.

Schardt said nobody is disputing that members of YSL, who have tattoos of YSL or are associated with YSL, have committed crimes but they were committed individually and not as part of a conspiracy.

Schardt called it "absurd" the state's attempt to use YoungThug's lyrics as a way he was furthering a gang.

"Who the heck is Jayden Myrick?" Schardt said about Stillwell and Young 🤬🤬🤬🤬 not knowing who he is but he is part of the conspiracy because he decided to attack YFN Lucci at the jail.

Schardt is going through multiple overt acts prosecutors alleged were in furtherance of the conspiracy and argues that those acts were isolated incidents.

Schardt admits that Stillwell was selling drug and trying to make music, but he didn't share his earnings with any other YSL member.

"I don't think I've ever claimed Shannon Stillwell is an angel either," Schardt said. He adds that his lyrics are not a confession.

Schardt just made reference to the song "Homicide" in which Kenneth Copeland appears to be acting out a fictional homicide on a man that looks similar to Donovan Thomas to prove that songs are not confessions because if they were, Copeland would have been indicted and charged.

Schardt has reached the 1-hour mark of his closing arguments. He only has two total hours of arguments.

Schardt makes note of Quindarius Zachary and Kenneth Copeland not being part of the indictment and if they were honest about the crimes committed in 2015, they would have charged them both in the indictment.

Schardt is focusing a lot on the testimony of state witnesses now honing in on Kenneth Copeland and how big of a liar he is.

"Kenneth Copeland is a liar. He is a proven liar," Schardt said about Copeland.

Schardt has spent at least 20 minutes repeating all the lies Kenneth Copeland said on the stand and called him "one the biggest liars" they've ever seen in their lives.

Schardt has now shifted to how Quindarius Zachary is also a liar and lied on Stillwell.

Schardt just gave multiple examples of things he remembers to the last detail (The Challenger Shuttle explosion, Obama's 2008 election, etc.) to show that if someone would have confessed to him about killing someone, he would have remembered, instead of being hasty on details.

Schardt is now talking about the surveillance footage missing from the McDonald's from Jan. 10, 2015 that he and Steel asked multiple times for and about to investigators.

Schardt is now saying Detective Thorpe lied about going to the McDonald's to get the footage.

Schardt said it's not their job to solve and determine who killed Donovan Thomas, but tried to infer that Kenneth Copeland committed the murder.

After 2 hours, Judge Whitaker called for a bathroom break.

I guess Schardt will be allowed to go a bit longer. He still hasn't gone over the other charges against Stillwell including the Drinks murder, which he will start on right away.

Schardt is going through the flaws of the state's investigation and case relating to the Drink's murder and Stillwell's alleged involvement.

Schardt argues that Stillwell rented the car, not as part of a plan to kill Drinks, but because things had gotten dangerous and he was scared for their safety.

Schardt argues about the fact that Stillwell didn't get rid of the rental car and even extended the rental because he knew that he didn't do anything wrong in the car.

Schardt is making a point to bring up to the jury again the lack of gun residue on the headliner of the car.

Schardt seems to once again claim that it wasn't his client who shot and killed Drinks but someone else."It's scientifically impossible that Mr. Stillwell killed (him)," Schardt said.

Schardt is closing now and talking about how for nearly a decade the state has prosecuted and followed members of YSL, including YoungThug, as well as offering and making threats to vulnerable witnesses, like Kenneth Copeland.

"It's time to put the hammer down and follow the evidence and not the state's narrative," Schardt said about the state's constant "hammering" of their narrative and theories to get a guilty conviction.

Schardt has concluded his closing arguments after about 2 hours and 54 minutes.

JURY OBSERVATIONS during @MaxGoddard13 closing: Jurors seem attentive, some are moving in their seats quit often. The seemingly uninterested female juror continues to give off a vibe that she’s over it. People are still taking notes.

@JozsefPapp_

Judge Whitaker just said that we will be going late today and continue with Mr. Weinstein, followed by a break before the state finishes their closing argument.

Weinstein starts out by thanking the jurors for their time and attention and telling them that he will move at a fast and brisk pace.

Weinstein starts talking about Deamonte Kendrick's beginning and how he had a football scholarship to play at UGA.

Weinstein said he has already paid for his crimes in 2015 and has turned to his art.

"He's been caught up in this targeting of Jeffery Williams," Weinstein said, adding that the use of lyrics is an attack on the first amendment.

Weinstein is talking about how the state hasn't really proven anything against YoungThug.

"Law enforcement put a target on Jeffery Williams' back," Weinstein said.

Weinstein said Deamonte Kendrick is one of YoungThug's best friend and is a tragedy of the state's war against Young 🤬🤬🤬🤬.

"He finessed the police. He is a master liar, he is an admitted master liar," Weinstein said about Kenneth Copeland and his lies on the stand.

YSL Trial: Closing ArgumentsAfter 1 year of trial, both sides are giving their final arguments before the jury deliberates on the guilt/innocence of the remaining 2 defendants - Yak Gotti and Shannon.

For QZ, Schardt reminds the jurors that QZ was seriously ill and facing 185 years in jail when he gave his statements.
He also highlights that the 2 statements he gave incriminating Shannon didn't even align with each other, and QZ's story kept changing.

Schardt plays the wiretap of what was thought to be a private conversation, in which Shannon says that "they" are just assuming that Shannon had something to do with the murder because he was at the gas station even though they didn't do anything and "it'll work itself out" Schardt argues Shannon had no reason to act innocent on the phone with his "co-conspirator" who is also accused of the murder, since he didn't know the phone was tapped

Similar argument regarding another wiretap in which Shannon says he knows the "gunshot forensic" will "come back clean".
Schardt says he knows it'll comeback clean because he knows he's innocent and no gun was fired from his car.

Schardt highlights how Shannon's actions following the murder are inconsistent with someone who just committed a murder

-Made no effort to get rid of the rental which was obviously on surveillance footage
-Actually called to extend the rental agreement
-Openly told cops that was his car
-Made no effort to hide the clothes he was in that day, and in fact, was in the same clothes days later when cops arrived

Schardt now going over the physical evidence that is favorable to Shannon

- Medical examiner's testimony that the victim would have instantly lost all movement (so he argues that the flashing of his brake lights while Shannon's car was there, would have been impossible)

- 0 gunshot residue found anywhere

Schardt is now going over the timeline of the surveillance video.

He tells the jury they will be able to watch the video as many times as they need to while deliberating.

Schardt arguing that the third car, which arrives after Shannon already left, is the actual shooter. The last brake light flicker of Drinks' car was 34 seconds after Shannon already left - scientifically impossible, according to Schardt, using the medical examiner's testimony.
