At a press conference, Interim Chief Rodney Bryant said that it was "factual" that since the Fulton County District Attorney filed charges in the death of Rayshard Brooks the department had seen "higher than average" number of officers calling in sick.

"The explanation for calling out sick vary and include officers questioning their training, officers being challenged and attacked, and unease about officers seeing their colleagues criminally charged so quickly," he said.

Happy Father's Day to all of our WS dads!

That may be true. However if he testifies the grand jurors are also allowed to ask their own questions.

Imo, they wont just ask yes or no questions. In fact being a GJ myself, and also a juror on several criminal cases, jurors become frustrated at times with just yes or no questions. Imo they logically want a longer explanation so they will know why the question was yes or no. In all of the cases during the trial I've been a juror the judge did allow the witness to further explain.

Now I know it's different in GJ room, but I do believe the grand jurors themselves will have their own questions, and will allow him to explain each one they ask.

While the DA wants it to look only one way the GJs will want more information than just yes or no questions before rendering their decision.

Thank goodness they are allowed to ask their own questions, and can decide, and request to hear from other witnesses too if they so choose to do so.

Imo, I think his grand jurors will have plenty of questions of their own for OR if he testifies.

After all they are being asked to indict on capital murder charges, and not a traffic ticket.

Jmho
I agree with all of this.

brave of him to tell the truth, I think.

I also find all those reasons for ‘sicking out’ on the part of the APD police to be good and compelling, not at all knee-jerk or shady. I don’t blame any of them, and I think the mayor is wrong to guilt trip them over it.

Any chance the DOJ would get involved in this case ?

Since there is a federal case pending against the current D.A. Paul Howard, I would think that they could.

I agree with you 100%.

She is being vetted for Biden's running mate. So, optics and all... This behavior must appeal to a segment of voters??

If the DOJ does the prosecution there will be no murder charge. Only civil rights violations.

I just wondered if the DOJ would get involved because in this particular case I believe Officer Rolfe did not intend to kill RB; it appears IMO that the DA would like to convince the jury otherwise.

The more I read about this the more frustrated I am that Howard has been allowed to do this. It boggles my mind.

“You know, this prosecutor made the comment that he wished he could charge this officer without using the grand jury,” he said. “The grand jury is a safeguard and a requirement in Georgia. It’s written in their constitution. It’s there because it is a message to that community that we will work together when we charge someone with a crime and we are arguing that we should take their liberty away.
But, instead, he makes those statements and then other outrageous statements before he even understands the evidence.”

It appears the DA is not doing the job he was hired to do; look at the evidence and apply the law where applicible. Leave politics and personal opinions out of it.

The company claims she created a hostile work environment.
Additionally I found out the company claims she created a hostile work environment by social media comments she made. The company just happened to find this out after she applied and was approved to go out on family leave. REALLY ? REALLY ?

Officer Rolfe is probably having a rough time coming to terms with the knowledge that he killed someone which I think most officers do regardless of the situation. A justified shoot does not come with a clear conscience IMO. Then his mother gets terminated from her job which just adds more stress for Officer Rolfe and his family. I hope he has a good support system to see him through the troubled times ahead and I send kind thoughts and a prayer for strength and peace his way.

The DOJ would get involved because they may feel there's a conflict of interest in regards to the current DA. In this case, I would agree.
It's the job of the DA to convince the jury that Rolfe intended to kill Brooks. It's also the job of the DA to drop the charges if he feels there's not enough evidence to convict.
It's also the job of the DA to wait until an investigation is complete before charges are filed, and in this case, that never happened.
The GBI was not even notified in advance of the press conference that the DA planned on filing these charges. IMO the DA was in a rush to do that. <modsnip: If you can't discuss it, don't mention it.>
