The termination of this officer is beyond wrong!!! No investigation, just terminated. If I said what I thought of this mayor I’d be banned. This whole thing reeks!

Don’t grab a police officer’s taser and you won’t get shot.

He could have tased the officer and grabbed his gun.

Sorry but police officers want to go home to their families at the end of their shifts.

I am very concerned about the level of lawlessness we are seeing with these protesters- it seems the police are standing down (as they are in Seattle): it seems also that the chant of "🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 the police" is taking on a life of its own. There is no free society or democracy without police. All there would be is anarchy.

The inmates are running the asylum. I am sick of the protests going on into its third week. it is absurd, and it is being done in the backdrop of a pandemic.
IMO this is no longer protesting. it is like one giant party--- and a lot of hatred spewing out of these protesters: the police seem intimidated all across the country which is why that officer was fired.

Maybe the mayor is afraid of the protesters aka rioters torching the entire city ?
That would have sounded silly before... but is now a reality.

I was astounded reading this, and am going to try to find it, but a protester /rioter said during the George Floyd riots that they were going to bring it to the suburbs.
Why ?

I’m guessing Wendy’s was burned down because they are the ones that called the police. Apparently the fault lies with everyone BUT Rayshard Brooks.
The people who set Wendy's on fire are criminals. We have seen this behavior along with looting across this country in the past few weeks, ever since the George Floyd incident. These criminals show up at a planned peaceful protest and wait til the cover of darkness to commit these crimes. They are not only criminals, they are cowards to boot.

The quick action was done to avoid widespread riots and looting.

Sorry but police have the right to defend themselves.

I don’t think it’s so much that the police are intimidated. i think there are way too many Mayors and Governors NOT backing these officers and NOT willing to break up the riots, burning, and looting. To call most of this mess “protesting” is laughable.
It’s high time someone had enough guts to stick up for the officers. Is there any Chief, Mayor, or Governor who is willing to back their officers? Are they all too busy kneeling?

There is a difference between protesting and rioting. Those who are rioting and looting are harming the cause.

Well, I would not go quite that far. One thing that many people want to see changed is the amount of discretion cops have in deploying lethal force. Most developed countries do not allow anywhere near this amount of leeway.
These days all uniformed officers carry their sidearm in a holster that has various levels of retention. That is to say that for all intents and purposes said handgun is locked in its holster until the officer “decides” to unlock it and draw his weapon.
I am much more interested in knowing why the officer drew his handgun while chasing someone who was running away holding a non lethal weapon.

it’s frightening to think our supposed “leaders” are so afraid of the rioters and looters they are doing anything to appease them. When will they decide it’s time to shut this mess down? How much damage will be enough? How many officers are they willing to sacrifice before they stand up instead of kneeling?
Getting back to Brooks, what the heck did he think would happen.

watch the video carefully. It appears the officer is running and holding a TAZER. You can see the officer drop the tazer, and grab his gun.

So he dropped the tazer and drew his pistol while chasing a Suspect who pointed a non lethal weapon at him. Is that right?

RB took the taser from the officer and could have used the taser on the officer and grabbed his gun. Very lethal situation!

A tazer might be considered non-lethal but if you resist arrest, steal the tazer from an officer, run, then point it at an officer there is a very good chance you will get shot. An officer cannot and should not take a chance of getting tazed and having his gun taken by a suspect.

BBM

Remember, significantly, Atlanta was burned quite a long time ago -- and those that started the fires are considered heroes. Those who owned the destroy properties and looted businesses were considered Evil, Wrong, Other so it was fine to destroy their property.

History is written by the victors.

Who will record the story of 2020???

Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves now. I reiterate did the officer “decide” to draw his weapon while chasing a suspect holding a non lethal weapon ? If you are patient with me I will explain “everything.”

Did the officer KNOW that what RB turned and pointed at him was the tazer? RB hadn’t been cuffed yet so do we know if he was searched?

Agreed.
I think that maybe Mr.Brooks having failed the sobriety test knew he was going to be fined or possibly some time in lockup --and dam*it , he wasn't having it !

The DM of course has to go and say that his daughter's 8th birthday was just a week ago.
(He was a good family man ; never mind that he was sleeping one off at Wendy's and the employees who called LE were not allowing just anyone to crash at their restaurant/parking lot --which is generally reserved for paying customers !)

Policemen and women have children, too.
Just saying.

I am not going to go by what the Brooks family attorney is saying. A taser is a less-lethal weapon, not non-lethal. People have died from being tasered.

I dont know all of the details in this case so I wont pass judgement either way.

But if I was a police officer and a suspect wrestled away my taser, I would be very worried they would use the taser on me, and then be able to take my service firearm from me using it against me as well.

We have seen in the past where suspects have taken control of an officer's weapon, and the LE officers were killed with their own firearm.

There is no way for me to know what was in the mind of this officer at the time though.

It's a sad day when anyone loses their life.

I don't understand why Wendy's restaurant was destroyed though. I also dont understand why so many think committing felonies are the right thing to do. How does more violence, and destruction honor this man's death or anyone else for that matter? I just dont get it.

I keep up with a site that has a current detailed running list of all who have been shot, and killed each year by LE starting in 2013 iirc.

In just the last couple of weeks several whites, and Hispanics have also been shot, and killed by police. Its curious we never seem to hear about everyone killed even though in total it happens right at a 1000 times on average per year. The only way anyone even knows about the majority of them... including those who were unarmed at the time of all races is to find them on the local news sites where they happened. The site I follow includes the links to the local sites for each person killed so even they have to depend on local news to continue to keep a current list. I guess that's because most dont make national news.

I think any, and all unjustified shootings by police should make national news. This is the only way for everyone to know how often it happens, where, who it happened to...and the circumstances surrounding each case. If not, the cops who kill whites or Hispanics aren't being exposed. It sends a wrong message to these kind of rogue officers that they wont suffer the same exposure or consequences publicly if they shoot whites, Hispanics or Asians. Etc. Iirc in 2019 around 25 whites were killed by cops were unarmed. Those also have grieving shattered families, and funerals even though no one knows their names.

LE already knows if they kill other races multiple times a year they will not face backlash or protestors nor violent riots. Imo it emboldens the rogue cops.

To root out ALL of the bad apples in this profession then they all need to be exposed when they shoot taking another person's life from them especially if they were unprovoked or the persons were unarmed.

Ita.

It's not like the police should be made to wait until the perp clearly shows that it's a gun and not a taser ... or wait until said perp gets a shot off ?
Absolute lunacy.

Once a criminal points or throws something at you it can become a fight for your life !
And I'd include bricks and knives in that assessment.
Imo.
