Good morning Elainera,

I hear what you are saying. The only thing is that millions (unfortunately) of youth spend years playing extremely violent games and they are
not motivated to murder. To me, these games are abhorrent, just like the hundreds of "slasher" movies that have been so popular over the last
twenty years. These also, in my opinion, do not necessarily lead someone to commit a heinous crime. Unless there is something
inconceivably wrong with a person's thoughts. In that case - yes this could help motivate someone who has such "sick" thoughts.

And judging from comments on their F.B. pages this seems to be the case.

In my opinion, there has to be something organic in a person to harbor such hate and evil thoughts to even contemplate something like this.
Kind of like how serial killers start young, killing animals and so forth.

I agree with you Elainera that the two monsters would be drawn to anything violent and they would feed off of it - violent video games/slasher movies -
these would all be things they could "relate" to. They probably felt familiar with some of the most heinous characters as their horrible fantasies
would match up perfectly with them.

It is my belief that there has to be something inherently evil in someone to do something like this. It looks like that is the case here.
I am not talking about mental health at all - I am referring to evil - undiluted evil.

This is only my opinion.

Can anyone tell me when the next Court appearance is for the two monsters? I'm sorry but I can't bring myself to type their names - it seems
more appropriate to type "monsters".

I thought there was a bond hearing tomorrow but I could be wrong.

I am also so curious about what charges have been/will be laid.

I have been watching for that too. I'll see if I can find any new info for us.

ETA I'm seeing nothing new but a couple of articles covering Sam's funeral which was yesterday.

I agree and understand your point. Surely watching slasher movies and playing violent video games does not in itself make a person evil. However, I believe that the line between game/movie/fantasy and reality gets blurred more easily when kids play these violent games on a frequent basis. I believe these games and movies contribute to horrific murders like this one being acted out. Similarly, sexual predators are often into violent 🤬🤬🤬🤬 or child 🤬🤬🤬🤬. It's like a platform for the sick person to plan and rehearse before acting.

Hi Elainera,

I just read this article (below) which agrees with every single point you have made.

http://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/violent-video-games-and-young-people

Of particular significance (from aforementioned article): (The second quote is particularly disturbing to me because children/teens do learn about social
behavior from these violent games. I never looked at it this way. So, if a child/teen plays these role-model games more than they interact with
family and "real life" then they are learning more about social behavior and social mores/norms from the games.)

"The view endorsed by organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is that exposure to violent media (including video games) can contribute to real-life violent behavior and harm children in other ways."

"Both the AAP and AACAP reason that children learn by observing, mimicking, and adopting behaviors — a basic principle of social learning theory. These organizations express concern that exposure to aggressive behavior or violence in video games and other media may, over time, desensitize youths by numbing them emotionally, cause nightmares and sleep problems, impair school performance, and lead to aggressive behavior and bullying."

From what I am learning about the video game market is that it is a billion dollar industry and thus, some parent groups are running into obstacles
such as studies which are skewed because lobbyists are involved (from the video game market).

Wow. I have had an education on this today.

O/T but it's up to the parent to decide how much their children play games. As a parent of a boy who likes his Xbox, WE limit his time. I've never even heard about lobbyists for the gaming market and to put blame on anyone else besides the the parent or guardian is deflection. JMO

RIP Sam. Prayers for you and your family and friends.

Each of the tributes deeply touched my heart.

As for the stories about Sam, from the socks he wore (one long, one short) to the Band Director gathering all of the band members
together and telling "silly" stories about Sam (the love and respect for Sam runs deep through these words as well) but the story of
Annebelle brought me to a heartbreaking sob.

How could someone's life with a heart as huge as Sam's end this way? I am in tears again as we all have been on and off
since we heard the news.

And the news of Annebelle, Sam's precious rescue dog, being listed as one of Sam's "survived by..." shows the immense generosity
of love and kindness by the parents. What a heartfelt tribute to Sam through Annebelle. I never met him but I think Sam would have liked that.

Rest in Peace Sam. Your brilliant light will live on forever in the hearts of those who love you.

Yes as soon as they mentioned Sam's little dog...ah I can't even write this without tearing up.

As the mother of a shoeless boy who often wore odd socks who is now 19 this tribute to Sam broke me down completely. When I read about Annabelle I sat here crying uncontrollably in my office. Why? Why is there such evil in this world? RIP Sam. I pray these two monsters who took you from your loving parents and your Annebelle will be punished as long as they live and then after that.

I think it goes beyond just violent games. My boys(now 26 and 24) played video games and still do...some violent and some not...but there were limits. They both are very caring individuals and have no desire to kill anyone.
I think I read Sam also played games with the one 🤬🤬🤬.
I just wanted to chime in and say it isn't always the violent games.

I do not believe this had anything to do with video games. The one they appeared to be into is like Lord of the Rings, you fight dragons cooperatively and stuff like that. There is also more than enough evidence to suggest video games help most people channel stress and are not a trigger for violent behavior, as much as there is information to the contrary.

It is like saying the gun company is responsible for a shooting death. No, these two have issues going far beyond their choice of hobby. If they didn't play video games, would we blame the music they listen to? What about their school environment? Heck let's look at their home life and blame the parents for raising two homicdal maniacs.

A violent, psychotic, unstable , damaged individual will always be such regardless of what games, music, etc they partake in.

  • #278
I agree that video games had nothing to do with this.

chalk up another, it wasn't the video games. these youths were just disenfranchised and unstable. same with the youths who killed the Yosts in CA. they clung to belonging in a fringe group, but they were always unstable. its from inside.

Of course it's from inside. What I said was that I believe violent video games and movies etc encourage the violent inside to come to the surface.

Case in point, Stefano Brizzi who killed and then chopped up PC Gordon Semple in the UK. He dissolved some of Mr.Semple in acid, other pieces he ate. He saw something like that on Breaking Bad, is obsessed with the show. I believe he felt encouraged when he watched that show to go ahead and actually live his sick fantasies.

Will be interesting to see what these two have to say for themselves when this goes to trial.
