GA - Starving boy, 10, 36 lbs, runs to neighbor and begs for food, Tyler and Krista Schindley arrested, Griffin, 2023

So had the trial already begun when they pled guilty? Maybe they heard all the evidence against them and realized they had no chance? I don't think it was motivated by sudden remorse or any moral responsibility.

Wonder if one had to convince the other or if both were equally for it? AFAIK, they wouldn't be allowed to communicate with each other, so I just wonder how that worked out. Like whose idea it was, etc. Wonder if their lawyers suggested it to them, or if they were taken by surprise...

Did they each receive the same sentence?

Can you actually ban someone from a town or county in Georgia? I didn't know that but if you can,, that is awesome!

Yes, you can! We had a group of people in Douglasville (Douglas County) who decided to pull up to a kid's bday party and hurl racial slurs among other things a few years ago. Two people were arrested and charged, and the judge banned them from the county.
It was awesome!
IMO.

Oh that is amazing - love it! I also noticed the judge included "surrounding counties." So if these two ever manage to weasel their way out of jail, they'll need to find somewhere else to be!

  • Last week, a judge sentenced Krista and Tyler Schindley to 40 years in prison, followed by 20 years on probation, in the horrific abuse and attempted murder of their 10-year-old adopted son.
  • But before their guilty pleas, more disturbing details emerged in court, with a school counselor testifying she told the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services not to allow the adoption, saying, "I don’t think they love him."
  • Extraordinarily, the foster care agency that recruited the Schindleys as foster parents says it also told the state the couple shouldn’t adopt children. The agency pulled their foster care license in 2020, the director told the FOX 5 I-Team.
  • Why or how the Schindleys were able to adopt the boy and his four younger siblings remains a mystery, as state law allows adoption and DFCS records to be kept closed.
Dire warnings didn’t stop a Spalding County couple from adopting the boy they almost starved to death

How indeed?
