My question is does he wear the blades all the time as his legs and feet, or does he wear other legs that have shoes attached like our legs, I always thought he wore the blades for running only, but maybe I am mistaken, he does look rather tall with his blades on, only 26 and what a waste of his future.

He only used the blades for running, normal legs when not. At the time of the shooting, he wasnt wearing his legs, he only put them on AFTER shooting Reeva dead. (hence the feeling vunerable defence as he heard a noise and didnt have his legs on)

No he wears prosthetics that look more like legs for walking around ...

Didn't they say he shot her once from bed (no legs) she ran to bathroom, he put legs on, then he goes to bathroom door and shoots through it? Then breaks open locked door and carries her downstairs.

Pistorius's statement

Briefly, in a statement to the court, Oscar Pistorius has set out his version of events on the night Reeva Steenkamp died.

He said they went to bed and fell asleep.

He woke to close a sliding door and get a fan and went out on to the balcony, he said.

At that point he heard a noise in the bathroom and felt a "sense of terror" rush through him.

He was scared and didn't switch on the light, he said.

He was acutely aware of violent crime and had received death threats in the past, and had been a victim of crime in the past, he said. For the that reason he kept a 9mm pistol under the bed.

He said he got his gun and moved towards the bathroom, and screamed at the "intruder" to get out of the house and for Steenkamp to call the police. He thought she was still in bed.

He did not have his prosthetic legs on, and said he felt vulnerable for both himself and Steenkamp. For that reason, he said, he fired through the bathroom door.

He then saw that Steenkamp was not in bed, he said. That was when he realised she could have been in the bathroom, he said. The bathroom door was locked.

He said he went to the balcony and called for help, and then put his legs on.

He said he opened the toilet door by smashing it with a cricket bat. Steenkamp was alive inside, slumped over, he said. He took her to the bathroom, called paramedics and tried to carry her downstairs to get help, he said.

He tried to revive her but she died in his arms, he said.

I dunno, I'm probably in the (small) minority, but I don't know if I'm ready to bring the hammer down on him, at least not yet. There are a lot of sketchy details that we know very little about. On top of that there are reports of things that are not being verified anywhere else (cricket bat, if he did indeed shoot her before the bathroom). I also still haven't heard of any motive, any previous issues between the both of them, etc., at least nothing that has been verified. Did the guy just wake up and start shooting at her for just no reason? Did they have a fight?

He very well may be guilty of premed, I just have more questions than answers at this time to fully understand the story thus can't really totally condemn him yet.

ETA: I thought I just read that she was not in the master bathroom, but a different one? This may partially explain why he didn't automatically assume it was her (as she would use the bathroom in the bedroom I would think). Assuming everything else he's saying is true.

Okay. He still had to get the gun from under the bed. Maybe in a panic you wouldn't look to see if your lover is there?

He yelled out for the intruder to leave. Maybe she was scared and said nothing in the bathroom?

Was this a very small bathroom? He could hit her with 4 bullets without being able to see her? Was she on the toilet or standing at the door?

I just don't know.

Read from his affadavit into court:

According to Pistorius, he and Steenkamp went to bed at about 22:00 on 13 February 2013.

He explained that he keeps a 9mm pistol under the bed as he has been a victim of crime before.

During the night he went out on the balcony and heard a noise in the bathroom. He said he felt a "sense of terror" rush through him.

"Because I did not have my legs on I felt vulnerable. I fired shots through the bathroom door and told Reeva to call police."

So let me get this straight. Reeva's in bed. He goes out to the balcony (he says he has mobility on his stumps), hears a noise, must go back to the bed to get his gun....but doesn't notice that Reeva isn't there? Wouldn't he think to wake her up or say "did you hear that?"

I would love to see a layout of the house. Where is the balcony? Where is the bathroom?

What kind of burglar locks themselves in the toilet? That just doesn't make sense to me.

interestingly, his statement leaves out the various phone calls he made!

If he used the bat on her-he can't say he thought it was an intruder,he would have known who he was hitting..he is lying about it all.I agree with someone who said he called everyone and waited for them to all come to bring her downstairs in front of them all, like he some hero trying to save her..he wanted them all to see that-JMO

I agree I do think that part was very well staged by him, he does think very, very highly about himself, and I really thing that is a lot of his behavior problem, he is a very damaged human being, who believes that he will manipulate
this entire situation, and everything will go back to the way it was, I do hope he is in for a big surprise, the bail hearing will give us all an indication, of how this may play out, and if denied him also, as that will be awful for him to be in a tiny cell, would he be able to wear his blades, or would they make regular legs with an attachment for their prison shoes I would think.

of course it doesn't make sense, Snoopster! it's total BS - hence his calls to his friend and his family he was setting up his "it was an intruder" alibi and I'm so scared of intruders.

Load of BS they had a fight which ended in her being shot. IMO. These supportive friends will disappear as soon as the really telling facts come out.

I think you can still support someone even if you believe they did something horrible if they are a real friend. But I think they will stop defending him in public once they get all the facts.

I still am not sure exactly what happened and have heard a few versions but his explanation does not make sense to me.
Her locking the door kind of screams she was afraid.

I am not an amputee but I have to think you would feel more vulnerable without his legs and if he was afraid would have put them in first. It would be one thing if it happened in his room but he got up and went to the bathroom. I need to see a plan of the house.

Prosecutor Nel requests close of business for today. Nair agrees and adjourns until 9am tomorrow. Pistorius remains in custody.

On twitter : @BBCAndrewH: Too scripted says a criminologist. Unconvinced.

I agree. It was a good attempt but I don't buy a word of it. Unfortunately I think many people will. Poor Reeva.

I've seen pictures of him without his blades (pros w/shoes) where he was stretching/working out. I believe the blades are for running.

I think I saw those photos in the Daily Mail.

Even if he had shot a burgler that way wouldn't it still murder? Does it matter legally that it was his girlfriend?

Not sure, does South Africa have laws similar to the US where it's legal (I think) to shoot an intruder that does a home invasion?

The one problem with is story is the going back to the bed to get the gun but not seeing her in the bed. That's the biggest disconnect because unless it was pitch black, I would think you should be able to see her in the bed. Then again, if he was on his stumps, what was his eye level to the bed? Was the gun under his bed and he just reached under it?

Too many questions.

Is this a possibility:

He gets up to close the door...same time as she, unknown to him, goes to the loo..its a small loo...he hears a noise...and screams at the "intruder" and screams at Reeva to call police.

Reversal: Reeva is sitting on the loo..she hears Oscar screaming about an intruder and shouting to her to call police..she becomes terrified and quickly locks the door, keeping silent, thinking there is really an intruder, totally UNAWARE that Oscar thinks SHE is the intruder..something like that???

Yes but only if you can prove that your life was in absolute danger of ending..and you still get arrested and have a trial like any other crime.

Interesting! I can see that happening.
