Thank God they found her! I need to read up on that. I only saw a little bit on the news, but it's so incredibly horrible.

It is just a coincidence that "Madison" was the girl's name, but maybe they searched for that little girl with more energy because of Maddie being in the news also.

Glad they found that poor child & hope she is taken to a place of safety & has all the help that she needs to get over this atrocity. If she is with family members then it sure looks like it is one of them who is abusing her! How dreadful!

The reason I call it "spin" that her health is "fragile" is the very fact that it is old news. But it is no accident those headlines are appearing now, a few days after the "disappointment" about the girl in Morocco.

They have a publicist who is trying to build sympathy for the parents.

Today's Headlines - and obviously press releases are going out from "Team McCann" because these stories are basically identical, with the same quotes:

McCann's gagged by cops

McCanns told: be quiet or face jail

You're right Thoughtfox, these are PR campaign releases. The vague "it emerged" source makes it clear it's not a direct quote from Portuguese authorities. It's a very good attempt to get more sympathy for the McCanns while portraying the Portuguese police as heavy handed obstructionists in the search for Madeleine.

I miss Auntie Phil, though, who hasn't been saying much since Clarence Mitchell took over.

How hard is it to bribe an Ocean Club maid to tell a story like this?

The Mitchell Machine has more red herrings than a Swedish smorgasbord.

Well, Clarence didn't get a Cabinet level position of "media monitoring" without being very, very good at what he does.

Wrong information -- perp is friend of father.

Zelda, I know your heart is in the right place and locating this abused child is wonderful, but this is Madeleine's forum, not Madison's.

I have an on-topic question. We know the Renault Scenic was rented by the McCanns in late May before they visited the Pope. Does anyone know how long they kept the car and when it was turned back in?

Hi Cali!!

I have read that they have had it all this time (since just before the visit to the pope) and it was returned last week (late from the 9/20 due back date)....maybe 9/26??

:blowkiss:

Thanks Heather, but they can't have used it after early September when they returned to the UK. Was someone else using it?

I read that the Morrocan authorities were not too "keen" about that possibility:

http://gazetadigitalmadeleinecase.blogspot.com/

"....weren't well received by Moroccan authorities: “If we have in our territory those 'private investigators', some kind of mercenaries, we will consider it a violation of our national sovereignty and it's better for those 'investigators' that we don't get them...”

They are probably afraid that these investigators will come in and end up solving the case. A case that they have blown from the beginning. I say the more the merrier and the better chance of finding her. So often LE refuses to call in help because the don't want their investigation messed with even though they are going no where with the case. They would rather it grow cold then ask someone in to help. I say "go for it" to Maddy's parents. You never know what some fresh sets of eyes and fresh brains might find. I would hire my own people too if my child had been missing this long. I hope they find little Maddy.

I just read about this, and believe me, I find this hard to believe if it is true:

Link 9-13-07

Meanwhile, the hire car, a silver Renault Scenic, is being kept in a “safe place” in Portugal while they look into having their own forensic tests carried out on it, a family friend said.

and

Guardian UK 9-13-07
http://www.guardian.co.uk/crime/article/0,,2167829,00.html

the BBC last night quoted a source close to Mr and Mrs McCann who said they were considering carrying out their own tests on the vehicle, which was being kept in a "safe place to avoid any possibility of evidence being planted".

I just wanted to say Thanks to you LL&S:

There is a good friend I have from Websleuths who is very creative and passionate about Madeleine. When I saw the beautiful Photo Ensemblage and read her moving prayer I asked if she would share it with us.

I hope that her prayer is answered very soon...perhaps these new stories we are hearing about mean that indeed Madeleine will be on her way home in the near future! Fingers crossed, and thank you LL&S for your inspiration

Uhhmm....It is the Morrocan authorities that expressed concerns about violation of their national sovereignty. The Morrocan LE has not been involved (for the most part) with trying to solve this case. That would be the Portuguese LE.

The statement "they would rather it grow cold then ask someone in to help" is not accurate considering that the Portuguese PJ asked for help and has been working with the British police and with Scotland Yard since practically day 1!!! It was the British LE that brought in the dogs and helped collect the forensics and have been testing that forensics in their lab in Brimingham, England.

The law is the law in Portugal and I think that it is important to respect the law. In my opinion the PJ have handled this case with the utmost care and due diligence. They are doing everything by the book and while it might not be on our timetable, I think they will get it done. I also have alot of confidence in Scotland Yard.
