Gord,

I think some posters are "disturbed" by this reference to taking things to the dump because of the situation in Portugal. Remember? The McCanns said that the explanation for the DNA in the wheel well of the Scenic was due to the fact that they had to haul their garbage (rotting meat, used nappies, etc.) to the dump. We asked MoonGoddess about this and she showed us that a dump run for that type of garbage would not have been necessary since there were large bins for garbage collection scattered all around Praia da Luz. Therefore, the McCanns explanation became suspect.

So, to hear again about going to the dump is going to immediately make some people suspicious. And you are going to get the humor thrown in there as well.

I agree with you that there are alot of people on this forum that are angry with the McCanns for many, many reasons.

That is not going to change.

thanks for replying - I dont know why but I am getting very invovled in this whole case - at heart I dont think they did it - but I am prepared to be proved wrong and I will eat whatever humble pie if I do

I also belive passionatley about justice and the law of the land - the country England , the UK we grew up on every man / woman can have their day in court - and we are all innocent until proven guilty

anyway I apologise if I have offended anyone with some of my more verbose statements

So going to the dump on a regular basis for anything like...lawn refuse? Help me understand, please. You can't bag or tie up yard refuse like branches?

Ours gets taken away if it's neatly bagged OR tied up. There's one day a week where they also will haul away heavy refuse, for example, a broken down piece of furniture. Anything reasonably good you put out on the curb, though, gets picked up before dawn.

Anything usable we call local charities and they come pick it up.

I live on the "edge" literally of suburbia and a couple of blocks over are farms and acreage homes where people just burn their own leaves or heavy branches. (unless there's a burn ban in drier months.) My grandparents (years ago of course) had their own little dump on their property. What wasn't used and reused or given to the dogs to eat was burned (and there wasn't a lot left after that.) Of course, they kept a lot of "stuff" too like most Depression era people.

I don't mean to be offensive, but going to the dump is something unheard of here, unless you were cleaning out your garage and had some toxic things like chemicals or old paint, you'd take that to a special municipal place. But even a huge pile of garbage, like a moving out clean out kind of stack--gets picked up.

So going to the dump (or tip?) is a regular activity for professional people in Great Britain. Do you have to pay? Do you just haul it in your car or what? How often do people have to go on average?

This is fascinating to me.

I can't magine what he would be going to dump either.

Texana, yes it is fascinating. Even in the Third World Country where I live (Trinidad and Tobago, Caribbean) people do not go to the dump just so...the garbage guys pick up everything (there is one truck that picks up trash and another that picks up tree branches, etc) People do not go to the dump at all. Even in my home country, Argentina, this is unheard.

No honestly - If I left any garden waste - even bagged it would be left by the bin men ( that is what they are called ) In my borough in London we get a pick up once a week - plastic and bottles and paper all seperated - the rest bagged - anything big - goes to the tip with me incliding my grass cuttings etc - You can pay extra to get a pick up in certain boroughs councils - but not most

It is a very english tradition to visit the dump. - My local dump even has a web cam so you can check the line an dsee how busy it is

Wow, interesting!!!! :)

That seems like a reasonable alternative to leaving your child alone in an unlocked apartment. It has also been reported that the McCanns had "reserved" a babysitter for the evening (I assume it was one who came and stayed at the apartment) but they cancelled their reservation in the afternoon. :waitasec:

Hmm, they cancelled the babysitter in the afternoon???? Why, I wonder? Could it be that Madeleine was already "gone?" That to me is a very telling event. IMO

I'm sorry, but that is really what I think. You know, getting rid of painful reminders. IMO they don't appear to grieve like most would, so I figured they would also feel the need to purge her stuff.

I'm sure their gardner would have taken care of all the yard waste. Mine does.

ok calmed down on the comment

I can assure you having a gardener is not common here in the UK - we dont have the land to make it worth it for one , and most people gardening is their hobby

to all doubters please believe me going to the dump on a sunday is as common as having a cup of tea at 4.00pm

she was seen by witnesses - not family and friends up to 6.30pm

the nanny pennington has said that she helped give Maddy and the twins tea

Helped give them tea? Kate needed help pouring 3 sippy cups with tea? Again I'm serious here. Why would a mother need help getting their kids a drink?

again a translation issue - tea in the Uk means the early evening meal as well as also a drink - we do have the habit of using the same word to mean many different things

I think Pennington ( the Warner Nanny ) has been stated as saying that Maddy and the twins were in the group of kids that all had tea ( supper ) together at about 6.30

I thought it was at 6:30 the time the parents pick her up? Maybe I am wrong.

no could be - hence I said about - I read that most of the kids had tea together in and around 6 0- 6.30

Didn't someone also say that the parents had taken Maddy out to eat at supper time (evening meal). It's all so very confusing to me. Forgive me.

This is just one of the references I have seen to that:

"- YES they dismissed a paid childminder only a couple of hours before dinner"

(quoted from Spanish TV channel Antena 3 special on Madeleine)

First, I think Nanny Pennington is full of it... IMHO, of course.

From: http://websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1705286&postcount=83

"According to PJ, the girl died inside the apartment before her parents' dinner, at the Tapas restaurant, in a period that is comprehended between 7.00 and 8.30 p.m., as DN could find out from sources that are connected to the investigation.

During that time interval, Maddie's father was seen playing tennis in the resort, so the child and her twin siblings would have been guarded by their mother, given the fact that the resort's babysitter that took care of the children had been dismissed around 5.30 p.m."

Guess it depends on who you want to believe.

I think you are referring to this:

http://abcnews.go.com/International/story?id=3637499&page=1

This article states they had dinner at 5:30PM. There have been some reports that this "dinner" never happened.

This time period and who exactly was the last to see Madeleine is the most confusing and unsubstantiated aspect of this case. No wonder you are confused. :)

I suppose it does all depend who or what you want to believe .

Here is the quote that the Mail had given a direct quote Pennington

She said: "I was helping give the children high tea. The twins were there and Madeleine and both parents.

"It was supposed to finish at 5.30pm but because they were a big group and really social, it didn't finish until about 6pm. There was nothing out of the ordinary at all." After tea Miss Pennington went to work at the resort's evening creche, in which parents could leave their children while they went out for supper.

ok it is a newspaper report who have interviewd the girl at her home

Why are all the witnesses getting discarded - Tanner - loopy or vivd imagination now Pennington as full of it

We do not have many witnesses to this case - shouldnt we paying at least some interest to what they say ?
