Calikid: Thanks for that blog - very interesting!

Texana: Well at least we have him on the record in that statement saying he was the last to see her alive. That's something from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

We only have Gerry's word that Maddie was still there at 9 p.m., or that he really looked in on them. It is unclear whether anyone else ever actually looked into her room to make sure she was ok.

Matthew Oldfield first said he didn't go in, then changed and said he did, but noticed the shutters open:

Gerry later said that he had noticed a door ajar, and thought the abductor might have been lurking there already at 9 p.m.

Hey, don't put me down as saying Gerry actually saw the children, even if he says he did. The only reason I can go with his visit time is because Jeremy Wilkins ran into him, and they talked. Other than that, we don't actually know what he saw, only what he says he saw. (Just the same as Jane Tanner.)

I really do very strongly remember the original reports saying that Gerry did not actually see the children. It's really interesting that he's emphasizing the opposite now.

I'm in total agreement with you! ;)

I agree, it was their own "listening" service they used as an early defence as to not hiring a sitter. His seeing her came later in the campaign

Yip, they have changed their stories many times. Gerry & Oldfield who said originally that he only listened at the door!
There is only one truth to the matter so why change it or tel a lie in the first place?

... What I have always understood is that Gerry McCann saw all three children sleeping, Madeleine with her favorite comfort blanket. ...

Here's a link to story from May 6, in timesonline:

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article1752277.ece

At 9.30pm Gerry McCann checked his children and they were sound asleep, with Madeleine lying with her comfort blanket. Thirty minutes later his wife returned and found Madeleine gone and the shutter of the rear window open.

I'm wondering about sources for this story- it was just a couple of days after the disappearance, before everybody and his brother/sister (or for you Brits, the world and his wife!) had something to say about it. It seems likely that this version- 9:30, with the blanket- was given to a relative by one of the McCanns.

'Don't say anything until they've turned off microphone', Gerry warns Kate on Spanish TV

He didnt say that he said "Don't you want to say anything to whoever's got her"

Almost three quarters of callers to Spanish TV show think McCanns are lying

From the daily mail

Mrs McCann said: "Somebody knows something. It is not about us. It is about Madeleine.

"We have not even seen her since she was four. She needs our help. She needs her family." Mr McCann, also 39, added: "We want people to try to help reunite our lovely four-year-old girl with her parents."
This is one of those lines that makes me believe their guilt. They missed her turning 4, they have not seen her since she was 3! :furious: Why do they insist on aging her even by a few days??

See I think this is one of those interpretation things and how people put their own connotations on other peoples words.I would speak as Kate did meaning "I havent seen her since she TURNED four" Hardly evidence of guilt IMO.

Yes, this is the account I recall from the onset. What I think happened in the SOL report is that Gerry McCann was talking & focusing on the only detail he found amiss in 5A, the door. Other newspapers have it that he saw the door open and thought maybe Madeleine had gotten up but then he saw her sleeping. SOL, instead, was focused on not the door but whether he checked on Madeleine, specifically and pursued that as though he needed to look in the bathroom or the master bedroom. I really think it is to a lg. extent, a translation-language problem.

There seems to be strong emphasis in the news over the last 2-3 days about evidence of Madeleine in the villa of Murat. This is not only that the dogs traced her there but hair and DNA, if we are to believe these new leaks. Why would any of the McCann family be at the villa if they did not know Murat? So the evidence would not be from the twins or from transfer. But the whole leak may be false, of course.

I have noticed that as well - I thought they found nothing in the initial forensics - but yet we are now reading that they have found hair fragmenst etc . Of course it could all be papers just now making things up - but interested to now see this discussion

I have always been bothered why Murat lied initialy about his alibi and also that he had ever contacted that Russian , when reprts said he had called him that night

I think there might be more to Senor Murat than meets the eye

Colomon posted a link of the interview and she was misquoted

"We haven't even seen her since she's been 4". is closer to what she said, going from memory.

The anguished mother-of-three said: "As Madeleine's Mummy I feel in my heart that she is there.

"I don't know how anyone could harm anyone as beautiful as Madeleine."

In her first television interview since she was named as an official suspect in the search for Madeleine, she said she was as confident of finding her daughter alive now as she was on the day she went missing nearly six months ago.

"Maybe even more so," she said. "I think she is possibly being held by someone in their house but I don't know.

"I strongly believe Madeleine is out there and we have to do everything we can."

Bolding is mine. While understanding that Kate might wish that Madeleine is being held by someone who just wanted a child, she has met with child exploitation professionals and knows the odds. So her statement is just too ridiculous to believe.

Since when do pedophiles murder their victims according to their looks? Murder and disposal of a victim is entirely dependent on several factors such as getting rid of evidence and thwarting any possibility of identification.

Kate's words are kind of like telling her mother the world is judging her for her breast-size. It is such a narcissistic statement but totally within the scope of the McCanns' thinking, however strange. "Oh, nobody would kill Madeleine because she's so pretty!"

Why didn't she just say, "I don't understand how anyone can harm a small, innocent little girl like Madeleine. If you took her, please let her come home."

Thank you for that link. I see the blanket in bundleman's left arm. What is showing there is not, to me, a child's face but gathered cloth. I see what the artist calls short hair. I had much shorter hair in mind but styles vary from one country to another. I mean MUCH shorter hair.
