Imagine donating to a memorial fund and finding out that the money went to buying a $500 cell phone instead of banking it for Kaiden's future. That would infuriate me to no end. I hope that people are smart enough not to donate to a fund that has no destination (other than Raven's pockets).

Me too. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Just thinking about credit cards and I was thinking...I wonder whose name the Abaroa's credit cards were under. And whose names were the car loans under too. We all know there had to be debt. I just wonder who the debt was attributed to.
Good questions! The only thing we know FOR SURE is that the Acura was in Janet's name, and that at least two of the other vehicles were in Raven's name, per the tax records anyway. We have no specific information regarding credit card debt, but one might assume there was some, and that it may even have been substantial...and if so, most likely that debt is still sitting there...maybe even with collection agencies involved at this point, who knows.

Talk about captalizing off a death. Have you heard about the woman who's husband died in Tower Two of the WTC who ended up with $5 million dollars, from various funds, insurance, etc. She's whining now that she only has half a million left because she frittered it away on shopping, a house, cars, breast implants for her and a friend, I believe and tons of other stuff.
Not to go o/t, I just wanted to mention that this woman spent a LARGE chunk of the money buying gifts for people that were helping her because she felt that she could never repay their kindness. She's also now helping people like herself that try to escape their pain by shopping/spending. :twocents:

I don't know that this stuff could be involved in terms of motive. In my own situation, my spouse will have to pay my debt from credit cards, student loans, etc., if something should happen to me, and vice-versa. A lot of these people hound you even after death by going after your family, life insurance, estate, etc.

Are you sure? I thought that in the event that the person (whose name is the principle account holder) passes away, the debts become null. Now that might be different if you applied for credit together. I've got things that only have my name on it and not my husband's.

Does anyone have any idea where Raven is at now? I know we knew he was staying with family, but has he made any definite plans on settling down again?

He is in VA moving from one LDS family to another with Kaiden

Depends...I know New Mexico is a community property state, meaning I am responsible for my husbands debt...he is responsible for mine. Doesnt matter who's name the credit is in. i.e. Hubby's truck is in his name only, but if anything happens to him, I am responsible for paying for the truck.

icare--were you there when Raven's mom spoke? I don't remember if someone said it was at the funeral or the memorial service. I was wondering if you got the same impression as MissYouJanet that said they thought Raven's mom was "promoting" the memorial fund.

I was there at the memorial when Ravens mom spoke. Raven had been holding Kaiden thorughout the service, but when Kaiden got fussy, Ravens mom took Kaiden to the back of the church or out of the room altogether. When she went up to speak she was still holding Kaiden. I thought that this was odd since she could have passed him to anyone, including Raven on her way up to the alter. She chose however to take him with her, I found this very strange. Everything felt so staged to me. I can't recall specifically the fund being spoke of, but all of it felt "icky" She gave me the creeps.

My experience in criminal cases (this would include the embezzlement charges) attorneys like to be paid upfront.

So someone had to at a minimum pay for that for him, as they had absolutely no resources when Raven was fired and Janet quit. They seemed to be extended to the hilt at that time and even without having to pay for an attorney they would have been extremely far stretched financially. A hit like that, when you don't have decent savings, can take a long time to recover from. I don't think it's hard to imagine that there wasn't much cash lying around before the arrest.

Somehow Raven has to be financed right now. Families do pitch in and help during emergencies, but imagine their hard earned cash going to support someone and then that person turning around and making flashy and unnecessary purchases. Ouch.

I heard that his church was assisting with his attorney fees. This is unconfirmed.

Why on earth would the church support a killer? Seems to me that would be a "slap in the face" to Janet and her family.

Certain types of debt, i.e., federal student loans, are always forgiven upon the death of the debtor, unless there was a co-signer to the original loan on the master promissory note. It goes beyond state law. HTH.

Church discretionary funds that a local bishop would have access to aren't supposed to go to attorneys fees. If his bishop is giving him money for that, the bishop should prepare to get a strongly worded letter from Salt Lake.

Again, this has not been confirmed. It was rumored that the church was assisting with the attorny fees for the embezzlement charges.

I would just think once he killed Janet the church would withdraw any and all support of him.

I've seen this before. It may not necessarily be the "Church" providing the money for his legal defense (for embezzlement charges - he hasn't been charged with anything else). Quite often in a situation like this, specific members from the ward donate money to help him. The funds don't come from the Church.
