I just went back to read about the jurors... from the sounds of this, will she even be able to explain it to others??? @Tippy Lynn do you recall this line of questioning?

No. 89: White woman, 50s

She said she’s a cardiac care nurse who lives in the suburbs.

She was questioned in depth about her medical training and whether she would second-guess police on resuscitation efforts. She was also asked whether she would reference her nursing experience during deliberations. She said she could avoid it, and would not act as an expert during deliberations.

“I think I can be impartial and listen to instructions and go with what I’m given and ignore the outside stuff,” she said.

I remember this juror being questioned. It didn't sound like she would be able to be the expert during deliberations. The jurors will only be able to go on expert testimony.

Thanks for the great reply and link! I had no idea this was a “thing” when I made my post but that article exactly answered my question.

Entire document is on point, and more specifically pages 20-21/47

Definitely one I didn't realize which is a landmine/trap for an appeal. (A reason that the defense didn't want the nurse kicked?) I was amazed at all the examples given in that paper. I was also intrigued that they had learned what had happened during deliberations for all those jury examples.

Lots of stuff on the internet about it if you want to venture down the rabbit hole I went into.

"beyond the ken"!

The Minneapolis police Third Precinct was looted and torched during last summer’s civil unrest. Authorities say equipment and files were taken from the building.
Among the many revelations from the investigation of Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd, it ranks a relatively low.

But back in January, authorities were scratching their heads after a Taser issued to the ex-Minneapolis police was recovered during a traffic stop in the south Metro suburb of Burnsville — more than seven months after Chauvin was fired for his role in the death of George Floyd.

The specifics of how and when the device was taken have not been disclosed publicly. Neither was the identity of the person found with the stolen device or the circumstances that led to his or her being arrested.

"At this point we are unsure when this Taser was taken, or where it was located when it was taken," Minneapolis police Cmdr. Travis Glampe wrote in a report several days after its recovery. He wrote that after determining that the Taser was one of theirs, the department's Taser training coordinating officer confirmed that the device belonged to Chauvin. The head of the department's Internal Affairs then contacted BCA agent James Reyerson, who oversaw the agency's investigation of Floyd's death, to arrange the device's retrieval.

Disappearance, recovery of Chauvin Taser remains a mystery
YIIIKES !!
No words, no point staring at a screen with a shocked mind unable to process!
I'm now stuttering aloud to myself, not even stuttering in English at that!

So they were new. Either way.

Lane is talking to him. Kueng is talking to him. The FF is yelling at him. The MMA guy is yelling at him. Radio traffic is going on. Vehicle traffic is going on. A couple of other bystanders are yelling at him. GF was resisting.

Where does his attention go?

To the person beneath him who may or may not be alive.

My apology as I misspoke. Cops were there on a criminal complaint. They called for an ambulance and then upgraded the request to light a fire. Criminal complaints differ from emergency response calls IMO
To reiterate we do not know where the blame belongs. An LE called for EMTs and upgraded that call. I’m unsure whether LE is responsible for providing emergency care to a suspected criminal during Covid. Their job is to keep the peace hence why they call for paramedics. IMO

I disagree. It's their job to provide first responder aid when someone is in need of it. If there were procedures preventing DC or any other officer from providing it during COVID, We would have heard testimony to that effect. I assume they have bags that they can put over the mouth to do CPR. Those bags also keep vomit from coming up on the people doing the aid. I don't know how they work, but those types of devices exist and cops probably use them. Since none of that was brought up by the defense, I'm going to assume there wasn't a problem providing aid during COVID. They certainly didn't mind being all over GF and that close to him without masks, so.......JMO

Yes that's very interesting. I find it difficult to believe anyone on a jury facing issues related to their own professional day to day life and education wouldn't be influenced. There's no way I could do it. If I've been educated in "it", worked in "it" and professionally applied practices in "it" I'd be absolutely impacted. If the same subject was part of my jury setting it would influence me.

What does this have to do with the trial outside of it being his taser? Am I missing something here?

TRIAL NEWS: Prosecution confirms their closing arguments lineup. Steve Schleicher to deliver closing arguments. Jerry Blackwell will handle rebuttal. Meaning the final voice this jury wil hear from aside from Judge, will be Blackwell. Monday, 9am.

So the prosecution gets a final rebuttal in closing arguments? I had no idea! Blackwell would not be my first choice but he's not a bad choice. <Modsnip>

You probably didn’t call them b****** either.

To be fair, that was after they wouldn't let her help, and frankly, if cops are that thin-skinned, well, that's a problem. I can't imagine a cop needs to be on the force if he's bothered by someone calling them names or would refuse to let a responder help another person because of name-calling. That's low-rent trashy.

I’m not saying that at all. Every SINGLE situation would have been different for him. I’m sure he was trained more than most. Meh. That means nothing. His experience likely holds more weight than that. And yes, his attention should have been at the task at hand. But in this case, he had several tasks in my opinion. His attention was divided, no doubt.

What were all of his tasks? I just saw him kneeling on GF. What else was he doing?

I guess this is a testament to the point I’m getting at. I heard traffic and I heard yelling. I heard several people telling me something.

Kids or adults. I’ve seen both be extremely violent. For seemingly no reason.

Williams would have been dismissed, IMO, because he’d been barking orders for awhile.

What did anyone in the crowd do that was extremely violent. I missed that.

It has to do with the case, not necessarily the trial. During the investigation apparently a taser belonging to Chauvin was recovered during a traffic stop.

This is the first time I've read this. It sounds like they don't know when or where it was taken. I wonder if it was left behind at the scene and somebody picked it up. If it was one of the items that was stolen from the precinct that night, it could just be a coincidence. Apparently a vest belonging to Thao was stolen as well.

Every use of force expert for the state, agreed with Nelson that subjects sometimes fake injury or illness to evade arrest. They say things like I can’t breathe, I’m having a heart attack, etc. This leads me to believe that it happens quite often.

As they are attempting to put GF in the car he says “I don’t want to go back”. I presume that means he doesn’t want to go back to jail. That is why he was resisting. IMO. So when he says “I can’t breathe” - do the officers make an assumption that he’s trying to avoid being arrested. Just some thoughts, speculation and my opinion.

I think a reasonable officer would recognize the point where the subject he's detaining is in destress or at least take the force down a level when there is no longer resistence. There's no excuse not to.
