Why was he out of his car is the real question. He was told to stand down and agreed he would.

He was told "we don't need you to do that" when asked by the NEN worker if he was following Trayvon AFTER he opened the door to his vehicle & George said "okay".

He was already out of his car before this conversation took place.

He wasn't told - it was a suggestion. And probably because it was his neighborhood, I guess he felt some responsibility as a part of a watch group, and the person looked very suspicious. Oh, and there had been a break-in recently.

And a dispatcher is not a police officer. I don't think you have any obligation to listen to what the dispatcher says since it's not against the law to get out of your car to see where someone is walking.

Why would either a prosecutor or a defense attorney think that a knock knock joke is a good way to start a MURDER trial! A murder trial isn't a laughing matter. JMO

It was awkward to say the least.

You made me think about this.. But shooting someone is traumatic too. My best guess would be that GZ was stunned by the shot. That he was scared and then had just stopped someone from beating him.. He may have just been spent. Just an idea...

I did say in my original post about this that he also could have been in shock.

I started out being on TM side when this all happened, a lot of that based on the length of time before arrest, just hearing a kid was gunned down in the night, etc.
The last couple weeks I have been looking at things from the GZ POV, and see how it could also be as HE says it is.
As of today my mind has flipped back and forth about 5 times based on points made here.
Thanks be I AM NOT ON THIS JURY!

Its tough. AS a mother of sons, I have that ache in my heart for this kid. But on the other hand this was a big dude even at 17. He was not walking on the sidewalks but lurking on the property of home owners. If I saw a person in a hoodie standing on my neighbors lawn, That I knew did not belong there, I would have been suspicious too. Especially if we had break ins recently.

To me in this respect, GZ is acting just as I would. I would have been suspicious and called the police, I would have been looking for him so I could tell Police where he went.

I go to this.. If he was just wanting to hurt the kid, Or get back at all the kids causing trouble in the neighborhood, He would not have called police until after the event. Not before. Not calling them to come..

You would leave the safety of your car...with a loaded gun...to follow someone you think is "up to no good"??? Do you know that person isn't armed? Are you ready to KILL SOMEONE because you don't like the way they were looking around??

That's the crux of this case for me!!! And IMO, NO!!! I should NOT because I have never been put in that position of authority to make those decisions. And I have not heard from anyone that George identified himself, or asked Trayvon what he was doing or anything of the sort. I guess we will hear if that happened or not - or allegedly happened anyway.

But again, Neighborhood Watch is NOT to put yourself in any danger...and following someone you have no idea what their intentions are is in fact putting yourself in danger. Neighborhood Watch is NOT about carrying a loaded gun, IMO. Or at least that's my take on it.

This is the most disjointed opening Ive ever heard, I mean its real bad, The flow is off, too many starts and stops. He should be more prepared. I don't like Mark O'Mara but I think he would've been a better choice for opening statements.

Have you all seen the photos of GZ the day after? There are 2 little pin pricks on his nose. I don't know how that type of injury happens, but that's not what I imagine when I hear someone has been punched in the nose. Here are the pictures (I don't know how to post actual photos...hopefully someone else can!)

http://thatmarriedguy.com/george-zimmerman-trial/

Also, according to GZ's reenactment...he was repeatedly slamming his head on the ground. Wouldn't there be much more damage if true?

He said TM covered his mouth and nose with his hands...and since according to GZ this would be after he was punched...so even if blood was not pouring out from gravity, there would have been something from his face given how these injuries look now.

There is a train of thought (not sure how I feel about them myself) that GZ caused his own injuries to cover this whole thing up. Again, don't ask me to explain further cause I have no reference in my own head about this.

Under Florida law, one only has to be in reasonable fear of their live in order to use self defense.

GZ should not have to wait until he was nearly killed before pulling out his gun in order to save his life.

Defense has pictures taken by witness right after altercation. Trayvon's legs were still in a strattled position post mortem in the pictures.

Snipped by me

(I also do not think this thread will last....should we start a pool as to what day it will be yanked? Just in opening statements and I already feel the tension :scared:).

This thread will last as long as everyone acts like adults and post wisely.. just a FYI..
No need for a poll.

Just trying to inject levity Raine, was not being a smartarse, I promise!

BTW, are smilies disabled for this thread or do I need to maybe reboot or something? TIA

BBM For that matter, why didn't GZ introduce himself to TM as being a member of neighborhood watch? That might have cleared the whole matter up without any violence.

Pretty logical right there. I would still be scared of anyone asking me anything unless they showed me a genuine police badge though. Even someone claiming to be HOA I would be suspicious of. Its dark and here is a strange person asking me questions that clearly isn't police? Anybody can claim to be anything....and I have fear of police too but I would answer for a bonafide lawperson. On a dark rainy night I would be scared crapless of a stranger and I would have fight or flight in me more than likely. What I would choose I do not know.
ETA My mom's old HOA book (diff state and she isn't active) states you don't get involved with anything you see, you call police to report suspicious activity.

To me the screaming makes no difference and the case seems to have two parts to it.

1). Martin was innocent while going to the store and getting some things.

2) Martin was upset about being asked ''if he was from around here' and a confrontation ensued.

This led to forensics:

A. Zimmerman grass stains and wetness on his back/shirt.
B. Zimmerman with injuries on the back of his head.
C. Zimmerman with a broken and bloody nose.
D. No injuries to TM except a small one on Martins right hand.

Per Florida Law, following does not mean aggression---certainly people have said if GZ doesn't get out of his car this doesn't happen--but that is not the law or the actual confrontation.

Certainly Martin was not doing anything wrong until he was asked a question--but you cannot use physical violence because you are mad about a question.

Prejudicial evidence left out was that Martin had bragged about getting the upper hand in fight previously by breaking someone nose--so he was not new to violence, he talked about getting a gun, he flashed gang signs in pictures, was suspended three times, smoked dope, and stole some jewelry.

However I think the one thing that has slanted this story is that when it came out--pics of Martin were showing a young kid in a pop warner uniform when in actuality Martin was a 6'1" high school football player and in excellent shape who quickly got the upper hand in this fight.

Now--I don't believe the nonsense that Trayvon was a bad kid or a 🤬🤬🤬🤬--he wasn't, he was probably a good kid and experimenting with marijuana and doing some dumb things in school---however, you have to know when to walk away from a fight. That's the crux of this case.

Finally--I want to thank the mods for opening this forum and hope we can all get along and reason together and look at the evidence together.

Hey friends! I told my husband I wouldn't follow this trial (I think my fingers were crossed behind my back).

This is an interesting case to me because, on the face of it, I can see either one of the two being the aggressor. I want to hear what the DNA evidence shows, and hear any witness testimony. Right now, to me, it looks like GZ stopped chasing when told it wasn't needed by the 911 operator and TM came upon him and was pummeling him on the ground. To which, RZ shot him.

But....is there really no RZ DNA on TM's clothing or on his body? Can you straddle atop someone and beat him up, slam his head on the ground and not have DNA transfer?

Did TM sucker punch RZ and RZ outright shoot him dead? But, there are witnesses who will testify RZ was underneath TM on the ground.

It is interesting, and here.I.am.again. All MOO.

Defense indicate the seemingly flat affect he had after altercation is because of shock - of just being beat up and having to shoot someone in self defense.

  • #355
You can hear cries for help until the moment of the shot the defense is saying.
No reason to call for help when you have no more threat.

Unless you innocently just shot someone??? I would be like "OMG! I was being attacked and I shot someone! GET HELP NOW!!!!!!!!!"

I don't know? I can not say why or why not people did something that night. What I can do is go off the arguments and evidence we get from the case.

Right now, I have more questions about TM than I do about GZ.

George was not on NW that night, He was going to Target on a personal errand.

You say that, But don't really know. There is no way to know how you would react in that situation. I am sure you would call for help but you may also be in complete shock and shut down for a moment. Your life just changed No matter what.

That is the cutest avatar ever!

Hey, where are the smilies? They must be around here somewhere...

O/T- Are you talking about Tricias lil Beagle? I have been coveting him/her since the moment I saw it. I may be on trial for dognapping before GZ gets a verdict!
