Georgia - Coronavirus COVID-19

Gov. Kemp's comments on asymptomatic spread of coronavirus stir scrutiny
In full, the governor said:

"I'm following the advice of (Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner) Dr. Toomey, and her and I both mentioned in our remarks, finding out that this virus is now transmitting before people see signs so - what we've been telling people from directives from the CDC for weeks now, that if you start feeling bad stay home, those individuals could have been infecting people before they ever felt bad," he said. "Well we didn't know that until the last 24 hours, and as Dr. Toomey told me, she goes, 'This is a game-changer for us.'"

Such willful ignorance! Where has he been? In a bunker with no source of news? Our daughter and her husband have dodged a bullet. They were scheduled to move from San Diego to Atlanta for her work on April 23. Since they are basically locked down in CA, everything is on hold and all plans, reservations, etc. had to be canceled, probably until summer. She can do her new job from home until then. They are much safer in CA for now than they would have been in Georgia IMO.

Here’s Gov K’s shelter-in-place-order. Nice to read the exact lingo sometimes. I don’t always trust the interpretations of some of these speed-reading reporters. Jmo

It’s on the links page for all executive orders- handy for future/ upcoming orders too.
2020 Executive Orders

Although Kemp’s mighty slow on the draw, at least there’s no bizarre DeSantis style exceptions- like go ahead & infect all your friends at church... except for maybe the page 9 clause for sale & transportation of firearms & ammo. Kinda bizarre to toss that in, imo.

This peak projection (table 2) says GA’s peak resource load April 24 & peak death toll April 25. If the downhill slope is similar to the uphill, will we be home quarantining till June 1st-ish? That’s a long haul.
Here's when the coronavirus will peak in your state

CVS said in a news release the site at Georgia Tech will be capable of testing up to 1,000 people per day, but patients must be pre-registered and have a scheduled appointment. Tests are being administered only for patient who meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

Patients can pre-register online at CVS.com. The tests will be made available free to all patients who receive registration, regardless of insurance status.

Dr. Troyen Brennan, chief medical officer for CVS, said the Georgia Tech testing site will operate five drive-through lanes. The company is deploying Abbott ID Now testing devices that can return results within minutes.

GEORGIA WORLD CONGRESS CENETER maybe turned into a Coronavirus Hospital...
???
60,000 people are expected to need hospitalization in the coming weeks!
"It's was just the "flu", right?"
Can I just say how mad I am at so many people, "I THOUGHT I KNEW AND RESPECTED".
I have come to the realization that more than a ⅓ of them, many whom I have known since middle school, (40 years ago), are plain stupid or just selfish and have no concern for anyone else's well being, but their own!!!
The virus sucks, the reality that I have realized about people I thought were special is an entire different thing!

I’m right there with you. Some really reckless decision-making here in GA. Don’t even want to think about how this will look in 3 months- or what a resurgence will be like next fall when we’re just beginning to recover from this current disaster. I try to make lots of soup & limit my news coverage to about 30 minutes per day.

Lots of media reports of massive unemployment nationwide, but was curious about GA stats. This is all I can find:

“The states of California, New York, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Texas and New Jersey saw the highest level of unemployment claims for the week ending March 28. Decreases in claims were seen in Nevada, Rhode Island, and Minnesota for the same week.”

Scary & uncertain times, for sure.

I posted the link below also on the FL thread- concerned about the 2020 hurricane season & possible evacuation scenarios w COVID-19.

We’ve had to evacuate the last 4 yrs- once from FL & 3 times from GA. With shelter in place orders & the harsh hurricanes of recent years- I’m wondering what lawmakers will propose. Coastal Georgians often have to head out & we also often take in a whole lot of Floridians. Where can they safely go with this virus still floating about? They better figure it out soon! Have y’all heard about any plans?
