The sickening thing is Maria, herself, probably thinks shes' in love and run off with her prince charming ( so gross to even type it ) so she probably thinks they're having a romantic and wonderful time. I hope he doesn't become agitated and fearful of arrest and do something rash, though. Freaking sick creep!

Yep, that's a real scenario right there isn't it.

Going right back to the beginning when Maria went missing, there hasn't been anything confirmed through the Police nor the MSM that this case has played out like it has been reported. Her mother confirmed Maria said she was going to stay with a friend, and then she has not been 'verifiably' seen since - and neither has Bernhard Haase, the Skoda, nor the dog.

Reality - no one actually saw/knows what happened after she left her house to 'supposedly' go to her friends house.

Its assumed she is with Bernhard, because its assume she left with Berhard - because of the chatroom communications for a year - but there doesn't seem to be any indication that she was head over heels in love with Bernhard, on the contrary I think I read that she had said to a friend he was 'too old'.

I do think (though) that Bernhard was the instigator of why she left. What ever reason he gave her, he managed to kidnap 13 year old Maria.

Considering that he must have known that his own life could never be the same - he could not go back to his family or job, his home, or friends, nor be recognized in public again without going to jail.... what was the payoff? Maria? She is 13! What happens when Maria says she wants to go home and see her family - and she will. If not now, what about in 6 months, a year, 2 years time. How can he be so stupid to think that this could last - unless he is so selfish that this is all about 'his' life. How much damage has he already done to her life!
I just think one day Bernhard will get very sick or have an emergency and need a hospital and it will be his undoing.

I hope Maria is not in danger, or harm, or has been left or given to anyone else.

All I can say is: Let her come home Bernhard.

Interesting the age of consent in Germany is 14

When does or when did she turn 14.

How have they not been caught yet?! Let's face it, he's a creep but not exactly a criminal mastermind.

I think he is very pedantic and a long-term planner. A lot of pedophiles are. But I don't think that is why he has avoided being caught for so long - I think it is because the German press and German police have been absolutely hopeless at keeping the story alive.

We know very little more about Haase than we did when Maria disappeared. The press haven't investigated this story at all. They haven't spoken to his family, or his friends. And hs family haven't even appealed for him to bring Maria back. His family should have notified the police as soon as he 'openly' declared his 'love' for a child to them (this is what a family member said in an interview).

I am really ashamed of the press here at the moment - who is Haase? What is his history? Where did he like to go on vacation, and what languages does he speak? Who are his friends, and where are they?

All these questions would have been answered long ago by good journalists, in my opinion.

Meanwhile, Maria is still missing and nobody would know if it was not for the hard work of her mother and supporters. The poor lady. Every day must be a nightmare of worry for her, and she is sick too.

You nailed it.
What confidence does it give any parent that they will see their child again when a case like this doesn't take some type of priority in the media.

From Monika's Blog on wordpress - read more... - this weeks update:
Translated extract:
MARY IS MISSING FOR 64 NIGHTS .... ABOUT NINE WEEKS

WE STILL HAVE NO USEFUL INFORMATION ....

Today is the birthday of her grandmother ... but also the greatest desire of my Mam was not fulfilled today ...... still we search Mary.

I would like to ask everyone who will soon go on holiday: Covers you in time with flyers and distributed them wherever it seems useful to you.
Please do, wherever you go, my eyes!
Each country makes sense.

9 weeks! After this long and no sighting I think they may have changed their appearance so as not to be recognized. With so many flyers and their pictures everywhere - no word in the media - I'm thinking it would not be hard to 'look' totally different if they tried some sort of disguise so that they could go un-noticed while travelling.

Happy Birthday to Maria's grandmother. May your grandchild be home soon to your family.

Thinking of you Maria - where ever you are.

I have asked mods if this is OK to post, so if it's not it will be removed (no worries :))
Attachment comparison - Haase without glasses and beard.
I am sure at this stage if Haase has removed his beard and glasses the photo's currently available of him wont always make him easily recognizable. The picture of Haase is apparently a couple of years old anyway.
This was a very quick paint over - I am no computer artist - excuse the sketchiness.

Haase left hand side - original with glasses and beard
Haase right hand side - removed glasses and beard

... he's still looks 53 to me:HHJP: He probably looks 63 now with Interpol after him.
As zwiebel pointed out - there are hardly any pics of him. I cant see them not changing their appearance at some stage - even if it's just temporary.
His more recent photo's have his head shaved completely - but its a half profile pic so you cant see all his face properly.

So sad there is now news :(
I just hope she will look at him one day and really analyze her situation and
think better of it and IF that happens, that she can get away . It's hard right
now to know if she is with him willingly or if he's intimidating her into staying.
I think she must be willingly because a person that size could easily make a fuss
and a get attention if she wanted to and was trying to.

Yes, but I remember at her age being terrified of the consequences of not doing my homework, let alone running away. Maria may well be too frightened to return, even if she wants to.

I am NOT even hinting that her family or police would punish her. But I have noticed in Germany that children are generally very, very well behaved compared to England. I think they may worry more than English or US children about doing something wrong, or stepping out of line.

I don't know if Maria is reading here, or how good her English is, but I think she really needs to know she will not have any problems if she comes home. She is not a criminal. She is not in trouble. If Bernhard is telling her she is, it is not true.

Not much news around, but an article on how social networking is helping catch people quicker. The article uses Bitte Findet Maria as an example.

LINK to article
A private Facebook investigation can reach as the police often significantly more and others. So is the Facebook group "Maria search" looking Maria-Brigitte Henselmann for the 13-year team. Since the beginning of may, it has disappeared with the 53 year old Bernhard Haase, whom she met on the Internet. Haase is accused of abduction and sexual abuse of a child. Mary's parents, relatives and friends hope to get with the help of the's Facebook group of hints on the whereabouts of the girl.

Thank you Fig for keeping us updated. I'm afraid she may turn up in a year or two when she's ' outgrown' this little fantasy and reality sets in . :( But the good news is, unlike a lot of cases here, I do believe she's alive and will stay that way !

I believe she is OK as well - and thanks for reminding us that here at WS we still have hope that she will return and that she is OK :).

Maria, we are all thinking of you.

Maria was listed on missing children Switzerland on July 6th, which is a good thing. Apart from that though, I haven't found anything new. I'm hoping holiday travellers will help to distribute posters physically, now the holiday season is here. I intended doing this myself, but an accident in the family means our holiday's been cancelled rather abruptly.

I wish we knew if Haase preferred the mountains or the beach or the woods and forests. If a person is going to run away, I suppose they will run somewhere they like, if possible. Greece has had a very bad recession and has very good weather and is a popular destination for Germans. I don't think it would be difficult for Haase to have found affordable, long-term accomodation there, or to go unnoticed by police. It all really depends on how much money he has with him. I hope police know.

What I find worrying about this case is I have travelled around Europe a fair few times, mainly from the Uk and many times thru the Czech Republic and its boardering countries.

Sometimes when in the motorhome or a car the boarder workers have checked the front passports/id and asked for anyone else's in the vehicle but have not looked at back passengers, or checked the right number of passports giving. Even in a motorhome when i could have 20 people squished in the back! Some times all you need is a flash of a British (or German) passport and off you go.

In fact crossing from Germany into the Czech Republic via the new motorway i have NEVER been stopped or seen police, but there is always police on the German side when you enter from CZ. Not stopping and checking just sitting in the cars scanning plates coming in.

One trip we went from Dover to Czech Republic then on to Hungry and only got checked properly once. Going into Hungry where they stamped my passport (on because i asked *blush*) That's a fair few countries you cross. Other times we have been checked at many but never at all stops.
Maybe that is because its always been 3 or 4 women travelling together in my case? Maybe a 53 year old man and a 13 year old girl would peek interest more? They could be anywhere and depending on "their" (his) luck they might not have been stopped/id at all...

As for the dog, my only thought is he clearly loved it so i doubt would he of dumped it on route? If he did there is no guarantee it will turn up in a pound as a lot of Europe countries now charge for you leaving animal there, no matter if you found it or not.

IMO

I also thought that if they are not using the Skoda to travel in (I'd be very surprised if they were) they could be travelling the night trains - express with sleeper car. Any documentation is passed on by the train officials not the person (if during sleeping hours). They wouldn't be seen from one point to the next - not for ticketing or check-in either. They would just have to arrive at the train - which they could do separately so as not to be seen.
They could easily get out of Germany.

I think the Police missed their chance when the floods were so bad in Germany - I think M & H's movement would have been restricted - if they hadn't already left the country.

I'd love to hear some 'official' news about this case.
Where is MSM on this and other cases.
Online predators seem to be in the news a lot lately.
