Massive hunt for missing Berlin girl enters third day, no body found | DW | 09.03.2019

[...]

About 100 police from various states, as well as a team of sniffer dogs, have been combing a forest in Brandenburg, the state that surrounds the comparatively small state of Berlin.

The case has gripped local German media, with near-daily reports on the fate of the student. More than 1,000 tips have been handed to police as possible leads.

Car spotted near forest
Since then police have focused on the forest area between the small towns of Kummersdorf and Wolzig, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southeast of Berlin. The brother-in-law's car was recorded driving on the nearby A12 autobahn, police said.

Search for Rebecca also on the third day without success
Excitement just before end ++ cadaver dogs hit at Channel

Berlin - And even on Saturday, a Hundred was looking for clues. For the first time during the three-day search in a wooded area near Wolzig (Dahme-Spreewald), hope arose to finally clarify Rebecca's fate.

Shortly before dusk at 5 pm, the detection dogs alerted at the Storkower canal near Friedersdorfer Hauptstraße.

The animals had perceived a suspicious smell. However, shortly thereafter followed the termination of the search operation. Apparently the dogs had only smelled a dead animal.

The search will not be continued on Sunday.

Rebecca aus Berlin: Suche der Polizei auch am dritten Tag ohne Erfolg

I thought cadaver dogs are especially trained to alert only to human decomp scent? o_O

Why are they not searching tomorrow?
I imagine the dogs can actually detect the difference when quizzed in more controlled settings, but I think the chemical compounds are similar enough to trick them in the woods initially.

None of the articles I saw gives a reason why the search will not be continued. Maybe they are satisfied that she's not there?

Two details I had not seen before:

According to the police, the brother-in-law is the only person who could have driven by car at the specified times. The rides do not fit at all to his narrated version.

The eye-catching raspberry red Twingo is back in front of Rebecca Reusch's parents' house since yesterday. In investigator circles, the quick return of the car is reason for surprise and irritation, reports the Berliner Zeitung.

So there were discrepancies in what he told police about when he had the car or what he did while he had it. Maybe he told them he was still sleeping when in fact the plate was registered on the A12.

I was also surprised the car was so quickly returned to the family.

The BIL didn't see her when he looked into the living room at 8.30 a.m., it was empty, so she went missing sometime between 7.15 and 8.30 a.m.
Thank you! Yes, I see now that I misread the link; the BIL saw her at 8:30 pm on Monday, the evening before she went missing. Sorry about that guys, I'm usually not that careless - too much sake...

I'm impressed with the intense search effort and how quickly the police zeroed in on a suspect and found evidence that Rebecca is no longer alive. And how quickly they shared it with the public.
Mehr als 1000 Hinweise im Fall Rebecca - Anklage auch ohne Leichenfund möglich
Im Kofferraum des Autos soll die Polizei Haare der Schülerin und Faserspuren dieser Decke gefunden haben.
In the trunk of the car, the police reportedly found hair of student and fiber traces of this ceiling.

Missing Rebecca (15): Her brother-in-law Florian R. is already known to the police
10:17 pm: Although Rebecca's brother-in-law was previously unknown to the Berlin police, he was not to police in Brandenburg. In 2014, as bild.de reports, he was already fined for violating the Weapons and Explosives Act in Frankfurt (Oder). He is said to have traded illegally with "Polenböllern".

It it most certain that they stopped searching?
The helicopter that was in the air, during the search in wooded areas is flying today.
Seems like it landed, close to Rzepin (Polen)

12:31: According to the "Bild" - newspaper the lawyer of the brother-in-law is former policewoman Petra Klein. "As a former Criminal Director and Specialized Lawyer for Criminal Law, I have a wide range of experience in both the detection of criminal offenses and in criminal defense," she writes on her website.

I don't see any reports that they're searching today.

Or maybe only the search on the ground was stopped..?

The 'zoom in' does not make any sence to me,so I guess, the flight is unrelated.

Yes, it appears that flight started near Rzepin (Polen), then continued to that zoomed in location?

Have you already looked at the previous day's flights? And did they give any ideas on patterns?

I feel like it's pretty clear what happened here, and I hope the police find the evidence they need to put a case together soon.

The missing blanket...

Tagesspiegel.de, morgenpost.de, stern.de, derwesten.de etc, they all report that the search in the woods is not continuing today.

"But cadaver dogs did not hit when the car was meticulously examined by the police. It has already been returned to the family. Who plays in the trunk? Without corpse no corpse smell, Rebecca lay alive in the trunk?"

Thank you..to be honest..I am puzzled by all of this.I really thought that LE had evidence that a crime has occurred in the house.

They probably only have circumstantial evidence and the discrepancies in what he said. I doubt they found blood in the house. And anything in disarray because of a struggle would have long been tidied up.

If he left her somewhere he would have had to hide a body, a red rucksack and a large colorful blanket. Not a fast job. These colors stick out in the barren winter environment. If he hid her and her things he did a thorough job.

Imo,it gets odd:

'5.45 still heavily drunk, five hours later already on the highway to Poland. The next day, the car is sighted again, at 22:39.

One of the "KESY" surveillance cameras with which the police are chasing offenders hangs on the motorway bridge at the Storkow exit. From there it is only eight kilometers to the forest Kummersdorfer, was searched in the last days for Rebecca.

Florian R's grandparents are supposed to live near Frankfurt (Oder). One possible reason he might have called why he had driven the track. '

Also,in the same link (Bild),there is also a read:
'"The mother then calls her son-in-law Florian. He says he's going to check on Rebecca. She hears him go down the stairs and into the living room. Then he says: "Nah, she's already gone." Even Rebecca's red backpack with the school supplies, her beige and pink handbag and fleece blanket are no longer there. Florian R. is said to have reported this to his mother-in-law on the phone."
