Image caption Cristian Movio said he and his colleague had stopped the gunman because of good training, composure and a little luck
Officials are trying to find out if the gunman was in contact with anyone in Italy and what his next destination was.

Amri had around €150 (£128) in cash, according to reports, and no food or extra clothing in his backpack. One theory is that he was aiming to take a bus to the Balkans or southern Italy.
Italy has beefed up security because of the risk of revenge attacks. A senior official in Italy's department of public security, Maurizio Vallone, warned that it was the "first time a terrorist has been killed in Italy... we have to be particularly careful to take every possible means of self defence".

'AFTER THE ATTACK, BERLIN TERRORIST FIRST TRAVELLED TO THE NETHERLANDS'

Elsevier.nl
http://www.elsevier.nl/nederland/ac...-berlijn-terrorist-ook-door-nederland-424948/

The terrorist who carried out an attack in Berlin Monday, December 19th, probably fled via the Netherlands to France and Italy. Anis Amri allegedly carried a SIM card that was only distributed in the Netherlands.

The Italian newspaper La Repubblica was the first to report on Wednesday that Italian investigators have found a special SIM card in the luggage of the 24-year-old Amri. These cards were distributed during a promotion of a telephone company between 20 and 22 December in three Dutch cities only: Breda, Nijmegen and Zwolle.

Amri committed the attack in Berlin on Monday, December 19th, and killed twelve persons. He then managed to escape. In the following days he may have been in the Netherlands, according to other Italian newspapers based on police sources.

Possibly, Amri visited several places in the Netherlands. The French TF1 reports that Amri was in Amsterdam, and took a FlixBus there. That bus may have had Lyon as a final destination. He passed no control before or during the bus trip: Amri carried a weapon.

At a first glance, the itinerary seems to be logical, although the destination of the FlixBus is still not entirely clear. The bus to Lyon makes a stopover in Paris. A Romanian truck driver says he spoke with Amri along the motorway near Limoges, and that Amri asked him the way to Lyon.

BBM

Limoges is about 400 kms west of Lyon, and not on the route from Paris to Lyon.
Possibly the bus from Paris to Toulouse stops there, but it does not make sense to end up in Limoges if you want to go to Lyon from Paris or even Amsterdam.

BERLIN ATTACK: THE ROUTE OF AMRI THROUGH EUROPE BECOMES CLEARER

BMFtv
http://www.bfmtv.com/international/...d-anis-amri-en-europe-se-precise-1075280.html

Two days after the attack in Berlin, the investigators recover the trail of Anis Amri in the Netherlands. He took a bus on Wednesday evening 21 december at the bus station in Nijmegen, near the German border, at an hour's drive from Amsterdam.

On his body, the investigators discovered Sim cards distributed in Nijmegen as part of a marketing operation.
It is thanks to this element that they have gone back to this town in the Netherlands. This would have been his starting point to France.

From this bus station, the 23-year-old man leaves for Lyon-Part-Dieu. The bus company with which he traveled, Flixbus, does not control his bag, which nevertheless contains a weapon. The other bus passengers will be interviewed by the investigators.

Was France only a transit country?

Other information, France appears to be simply a transit country after more than 15 hours of travelling on the bus. During his visit to Lyon, Anis Amri did not stop at anybody's home. At this stage of the investigation, he apparently had no accomplice in France.

The video surveillance cameras at the Lyon-Part-Dieu station confirm the presence of the terrorist on the national territory. He is een in the station and on the platform. He bought, in cash, a train ticket to Milan, with a connection to Chambéry, on Thursday afternoon.

BBM

It is unclear if Amri was in Amsterdam.
Press turns out confusing reports like: he travelled from Nijmegen to Amsterdam, where he took a bus to Lyon, but since FlixBus has no direct connection between Amsterdam and Lyon, he had to change buses in Nijmegen.

Apparently, it still needs to be clarified where he was during the two days between the attack and the moment he appears in Nijmegen.
Flixbus has direct connections with both Amsterdam and Nijmegen. If he caught a bus in Berlin around midnight on the night of the attack, he would have arrived on Tuesday at some time in the morning, either in Amsterdam or in Nijmegen, so where was he between then and Wednesday evening when he appeared in Nijmegen and took the bus to Lyon?

DUTCH PUBLIC PROSECUTOR: AMRI SEEN ON CCTV OF NIJMEGEN MAIN STATION

NOS.nl
http://nos.nl/artikel/2150453-om-dader-berlijn-was-zeer-waarschijnlijk-in-nijmegen.html

The alleged perpetrator of the attack in Berlin has very likely been in Nijmegen two days after the attack. The Prosecution assumes that Anis Amri was given a free sim card at the railway station. The Justice Department made this known in reaction to reports in Italian media. These media reported this morning that after the attack Amri escaped via the Netherlands to France and Italy.

Amri is probably also seen on surveillance video made at the Nijmegen station. Those images are still being investigated, but it appears to be the same man who was seen in Lyon and who is considered to be Amri, according to the Public Prosecutor. It is not known when and in which direction the Tunisian man left Nijmegen. All possible itineraries are being reconstructed at this moment, according to the Prosecutor. There are no indications yet that Amri received assistance from third parties in the Netherlands.

BBM

Nijmegen is on the border with Germany. On the other side of the border, and on the other side of the Rhine is Emmerich, the place where the search of an asylum centre where Amri had lived, was halted due to procedural mistakes.

TRUCK WAS STOPPED BY ON-BOARD COMPUTER

Spiegel.de
http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deuts...erlin-bordcomputer-stoppte-lkw-a-1127835.html

According to information received by SPIEGEL, the on-board computer of the truck, in which the alleged assassin Anis Amri raced over the Christmas market on the Berlin Breitscheidplatz, carried out a full brake. Thus the vehicle could not run over even more people.

The truck is equipped with a system that detects obstacles with help of a camera and radar. The system hits the brakes when the driver does not react to a warning signal within one second.

During the attack, eleven people died, the actual driver of the Polish truck was apparently murdered by Amri beforehand with a pistol. Dozens of other people were seriously injured.

The Tunisian man was killed during a police check in the early morning hours of 23 December at a railway station in northern Milan. He had pulled a pistol and started shooting at the officials who returned the fire.

Amri sent a photo shortly before the attack in Berlin.

At 19.41 clock, so only a few minutes before the attack, Amri sent a message to a confidant from the driver's cabin via the messenger service "Telegram": "My brother, everything is alright, Allah willing, my brother, everything is all right, I am in the car now, have you understood me, pray for me, brother, pray for me!"

Shortly thereafter, the assassin posted also a photo: it shows the cabin of the stolen truck, a piece of steering wheel and cables leading to the cigarette lighter. A kitchen roll can be seen on the dashboard.

21 minutes later, at 20:02 am, Amri drove the heavyweight truck into the crowd. Whoever was the addressee of the messages remains still under investigation.

German authorities had put Amri under covert surveillance for six months earlier this year following a warning from intelligence agencies that he might be planning an attack. The surveillance ended in September after police found no evidence of his alleged plans.

Separately, prosecutors in the western German city of Duisburg said Thursday that they opened a fraud investigation against Amri in April but shelved it in November because his whereabouts were unknown.
Amri was being investigated for receiving asylum-seeker benefits in two different towns, under different identities, for a few days in late 2015.

Imo this is all silly We are not going to let them change our lives.

oh please they have changed the world's lives

Like

Dont

Accept it

Deny it Time for a realitry check

Make your choices - believing that 5000 dudes walking around with big nasty guns is gonna save ones lives from an 18 wheeler or a bomb in dumpster, or being ufnronute enough to stand by a suicide bomber

hey fine - but as long as we continue to pretend that they have not changed democracy denial in any situation is dangerous.

Cause it presents us with powerlessness. That is what it is.

Hey I am not advocating staying home, but quit pretending that we are not gonna let them chang3e the fabric of our society -- they have, they will, that is the reality

Be vigilant what a crock

it is powerlessness, humans don't do well with that - but that is reality imo

Be vigilant

ah the best one can do is go out do the fireworks enjoy and hope you do not get smushed by an 18 wheeler - blown to pieces by a suicide bomber , shot by an Ak 47, set a fire, stabbed with a machete, taken hostage, tortured, raped, decapitated, blown up, pressure cooked to rehab, missing limbs for the rest of your existence,

thats the truth

Bottom line big ole america is at its knees, hey don't stop living your lives - but the delusion that being vigilant is gonna keep one alive while an 18 wheeler is running over people 28 feet from you is just

well stupid

Reality check - this is the world today

sorry

IT IS DIFFICULT NOT TO TURN TO SARCASM IN THE CASE OF AMRI

Welt.de
https://www.welt.de/debatte/komment...=socialmedia.socialflow....socialflow_twitter

A suspicion that was only a false conclusion. The release by the Federal Prosecutor of the Tunisian connection of Anis Amri shows that a very exact examination of seemingly plausible assumptions is indispensable for the investigation of crimes.

He was arrested because his number was stored on Amris's mobile phone. But apparently he was not the recipient of the messages and photos that Amri sent out right before the attack.

As confusing as the picture remains, one thing is becoming increasingly clear with the latest investigations. If Anis Amri had been arrested at a comparable speed, twelve people would still be alive - and there were a lot of reasons for his incarceration.

Why wasn't he in pre-charge custody?

Amri did not only violate his residence and reporting requirements once, namely on his thwarted journey to Switzerland in August. He did it several times, he was apparently free to move about in North Rhine-Westphalia.

He was able to apply for welfare assistance in neighboring communities under various names and visit extremist imams throughout the state. He was able to obtain arms and to get in touch with the IS - and many of them were known to German authorities.

Some of them were even very well known, all without the help of the NSA. A young man who is a refugee, who has fake IDs and visits extremist mosques, asks an informant of the security authorities for weapons - without even being put in deportation detention. Or at least in investigative detention.

On several occasions, he was the subject of meetings in the Joint Terror Protection Center of the Federal Republic and the Länder - without anything happening. There were no indications for an imminent criminal offense, as is currently said as a justification. Not surprisingly, Amri was able to travel unimpeded through Europe after the attack. And it is difficult not to become sarcastic about it.

A caricaturist could make a striking sketch of the ineffective security architecture - of the confusion between federal and state authorities, the conflict between federal and state law, cut-off strands of information, empty reporting channels and lonely decisions at local or federal levels.

The confusion that is now becoming clearer and clearer does not make it easier to wait for the next attack with democratic serenity.

Decent Germans getting enough.

It is less than 48 hours until New Year.
Hardly anyone has been convicted for the tarrush crimes committed in Cologne on New Years Eve of 2016 and the message of the German authorities to the rapefugees from North Africa could not have been clearer:
Please have it your way, WE continue sleepwalking into the apocalyps. We had terrorism, rape, murder and robberies before in Germany and all of this has nothing, repeat noting, to do with refugees.

Apparently, a substancial part of the mob that was responsible for the Colgne attacks has now spread over Europe. This is known, but not thanks to Germany.

Berlin Christmas market attacker likely radicalized in prison, Italian officials say

No indications Anis Amri had any connections to extremist networks in the country: PM

Amazing. Or maybe strange. ;)

I was just reading that the Italian Public Prosecutor Franco Roberti has declared that Italy is not only a transit country for terrorists, but a place where they find logistical support and false identities.

He calls Italy a cradle for terrorism with intimate links with organized crime - that is how and where they get their money.

"It is no coincidence that centers were set up in Naples, Caserta, Bari and Rome to issue false documents to migrants," according to Roberti.

FORT COLOGNE ARMED TO THE TEETH DURING NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

EindhovensDagblad
http://www.ed.nl/algemeen/buitenland/fort-keulen-tot-tanden-gewapend-tijdens-jaarwisseling-1.6800427

After the massive assaults during the previous turn of the year, the square around the Cathedral in Cologne has become fortress tonight. From five o'clock in the afternoon, the entire area around the cathedral will be closed off with fences. More than 1,800 police officers are employed to ensure the public order. "This will be the quietest New Year's Eve ever."

They look a little startled. Less than 20 meters away, a man is brutally pushed against the wall by two policemen. A small struggle, indistinct screams.

It won't be ...?

Then a half-empty can of beer rolls over the pavement. A few curses are heard in local Kölsch. The bystanders laugh, a little uncomfortable. It's only a drunken tramp.

This is Cologne, and we are on the square near the Cathedral, and all those people who are walking around here on this cold morning, know what happened here almost a year ago, on the night of New Years Eve. And everyone has also the attack in Berlin are at the forefront of their minds, the truck, the dead, and then the awareness that now also Germany's turn has come

"Mommy, look! " A little boy in a buggy is shouting. ,, There are the cops again. On a motorcycle!" And there, in front of the Dom, is a police car. In front of the doors of the immense cathedral, guards in bright yellow jackets are walking back and forth.

Slowly but surely the city is preparing itself for Silvester night, the celebration of the New Year. This will be a night to remember. Like the last one. When something happened that even the police initially failed to grasp. On the far too busy and far too dark square hundreds of women were assaulted, some were even raped by North African men (mostly from Morocco and Algeria).

The Italian owner of pub-pasticceria Don Gelati, on the Roncalli Square, is shaking his head. Right in front of his door hell broke loose. " I had closed the pub at that hour, but if I look back again the images of those hours, those people running and panicking, I still get goosebumps."

An overview of the Cologne police made this fall shows that that night 1,616 offenses were committed, ranging from robbery to assault and rape. There have been 1,205 reports, of which 509 of sexual offenses. In the end were convicted: six men.

This never again, the police must have thought. Also because they were mercilessly criticised by politicians and the public. They would not only have reacted too late, but also too weak. Therefore the police now has a "security concept" to make the square near the Cathedral safer than safe .

"We will not let our way of life be determined by aggressive men, terrorists and criminals," Mayor Henriette Reker said this week. "I want these women not be hounded by evil spirits on this New Year's Eve."

Mr. Krey from the Köselsche Bookshop, on the square, is impressed by the list of measures. ,"This will be the quietest New Year ever. " His neighbor Don Gelati puts it differently: "Not even a dog will turn up, mark my words."

BBM

Mayor Henriette Reker was heavily criticised for advising women to keep men at an arm's length. This tip was also found on the official Cologne website, which goes to prove the utter unworldlyness of the German authorities, should anyone need more proof of that.

Cologne around 21.30 hrs tonight:

If I were in Cologne, I'd take one look at those men going through the police check, and I'd decide NOT to not join them!

SYRIAN SUSPECTED OF PLANNING TRUCK ATTACK IN GERMANY ARRESTED

Reuters.com
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-g...01fe&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter

A Syrian migrant who arrived in Germany two years ago has been arrested on suspicion of seeking funds from Islamic State to drive truck bombs into a crowd, a German state prosecutor's office said on Monday.

The arrest follows an attack two weeks ago when a Tunisian whose asylum request had been rejected rammed a truck into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people. The man, Anis Amri, 24, was later shot dead by Italian police.

In the latest case, the prosecutor in the western city of Saarbruecken said the 38-year-old Syrian was detained on Saturday and a formal arrest warrant was issued on Sunday on suspicion that he was trying to raise 180,000 euros ($189,000) to fund an attack.

Prosecutor Christoph Rebmann said the man, whom he did not name, was suspected of seeking the money from Islamic State in Syria to buy trucks and load 400-500 kg (880-1,100 pounds) of explosives into each of them.

"He is suspected of ... requesting 180,000 euros from a contact person in Syria on his cell phone from Saarbruecken in December, 2016 so that he could acquire vehicles to pack with explosives and drive them into a crowd," Rebmann said in a statement.

SAARLANd: SYRIAN PLANNED JOHAD WITH BOMBS IN FAKE POLICE CARS IN BERLIN, STUTTGART, MÜNCHEN, ESSEN UND DORTMUND

The asylum seekers who had travelled from Turkey to Germany via the Greek island of Chios and Hungary in 2014 had lived in Hessian Feldberg since his acceptance [ as asylum seeker] . In August 2016 he moved to Saarbrücken-Burbach.

During the search, the officials did not locate any explosives or indications of an accomplice, but they managed to secure the mobile phone of the terror suspect. Chat profiles were discovered on the news service Telegram, that proved him making contact with the Islamic state (IS). The Syrian apparently wanted 180,000 euros from the terrorists to procure vehicles, equip them with explosives and camouflage them as police cars.

With the cars full of explosives and repainted as a police car, attacks were to be committed in Berlin, Stuttgart, Munich, Essen and Dortmund. Further attacks were to take place in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. It was meant to be a Jihad, according to Margot Burmeister, Attorney General, at today's press conference in the state police buildings in Saarland.
