The whole "he was on food stamps" thing doesn't come as a surprise to me because this guy sounds like he was greedy and money-motivated because he had some special things he liked to spend his money on, and he wasn't gonna let pesky necessities like paying for food or repairing his house get in the way of his special things...
*shudders*
MOO

also, he's a scammer IMO (car accident lawsuits) so wouldn't surprise me if he got SNAP cards dishonestly

ty now I do see a person as others have said but not kneeling ... looks like sitting on a stool or box?
yeah my mind almost wants to connect the look of someone kind of slouching in a booth over laying down if it is indeed a person based on the angles. Creepy regardless...

I have lurked here for years originally due interest in the GSK case (amazing community you guys have by the way) and flipping that and seeing that compelled me as it certainly looks odd considering everything else.

Creepy. I lived in New Brunswick and was a member of St. Peter’s Church in the late 80s, early 90s (my daughter was also born at St. Peter’s Hospital during that time).
@JerseyGirl
That is wild that you attended the same church this SK did. Do you happen to have any recollection of seeing him at a church service or church event some three decades ago? It is creepy to know an audacious SK attends church within his community. You and your neighbors must feel proud of the Sheriff and PD as well as possess a deep sense of relief with the arrest of this vicious killer.

Epstein lived in one of the toniest neighborhood's in Manhattan. Heuermann worked in midtown - yes, on 5th Ave, but a completely different neighborhood and vibe from Epstein's Upper East Side home.

Just adding that for context.

We dont know the code. I mean if there is a code. There would have to be one right? 108 , 5th , dirty picture. Maybe the evidence is part of the messages..if there was a code that is. It could get complex. Name ,number signs, times pictures.

Oh wow, I didn't know there was actual footage of the cat being removed.

Yeah, if it was in a live trap, it's likely they couldn't get near it. I imagine it must have been confined to one bit of the house until now, though, because there's been a constant flow of cops and CSIs in and out of there for days. If - say - the cat was an indoor cat, living in the garage, they probably could have put the live trap in there with food inside and shut the door, checking occasionally, and just focused on the other parts of the home until it was safely in the cage. Poor thing.

MOO

You gave me optimism with some of your posts regarding cat rescue and cat care, and I thank you for that.

I think the cat probably had a good meal and water, and will be okay. I can't imagine that LE wouldn't contact an animal rescuer such as the lady I work with.

It's possible that he's able to have transactions with sex workers without feeling the compulsion to kill them. Maybe the murdered victims insulted him or pissed him off somehow (i.e., Amber Costello), triggering violence. At some point, I would imagine that it would have been hard for him to keep the sex transaction and violence separate, but he does seem to be adept at compartmentalization.

I wouldn’t be surprised if with all his debts and unpaid taxes, he simply didn’t want to pay them, or at least this is how it started.

I'm not sure why exactly, but her account doesn't ring true to me.

For one thing, why would a woman in her mid-twenties accept a date from then 49-year-old RH? He wasn't exactly a looker.

That might sound shallow, but I was a woman in my mid-twenties once.
I can see your point of view.

Perhaps at the time she was a sex worker and is reluctant to say that at this time

I hope some body on here can see it and draw what they see bigger so we can see too!
They did this in the 1700's all the time.
I know its a big ask.

Flipped and zoomed in just a bit and that second frame looks very suspect.
Hey, been a while on here. Hope everyone is good. The person in frame 2 has darker clothes on and both shirt and pants are the same colour. Could be old hunting photos in camo overalls. Then the other pic is with overalls down and just a shirt. The positioning could be posing with a gun.

Also 200 guns is quite a lot. Would fill a small room.

Also I doubt anything ever happened at his residence. We’re talking about a guy with multiple properties, mini storage, etc. the witness at the park said he came out of the woods. I think he did this offsite.

I'm confused
you think lead affects development and turns people into serial killers?
who is Dauhner?
and what does it have to do with the Montauk boys, who I thought were lost at sea
Montauk boys as in Montauk project. I’ll warn you it’s a very deep rabbit hole you may not want to venter into but extremely interesting and possibly connected to Long Island having so many serial killers in such close proximity.

So many innocent victims in all of this.

He lives right across from Massapeque preserve. Are there Ducks there?
I mean he is a single unit crime machine with certain abilties or he is one of many weird crime committing indivuals that doesnt fit the mold? Or this 6 foot, 5 inch ,tall ,creepy, multi-state property owning dude, really made this much money as a architect all the while lurching over the fence. None of this works for me as far as wide reaching SK importance . The money and assets are not meshing .
We should demand they make all those guns serials records public that were found in this case. Like really. The fact Nevada is looking at things is enough to make you really question wtf.

New article in The NY Times — I gifted the article so it shouldn’t be behind a paywall

Apparently the family paid for groceries with food stamps, which is interesting considering RH had his own pretty successful architecture firm.

In Gilgo Beach Slayings, a Wife Nearby but Apparently Unknowing - NY Times

<snipped & BBM>
Cashiers at the supermarket knew them as a quiet, cheerless family that shopped several times a week. Ms. Salmeri said she watched their children grow up over the past 25 years. One thing remained constant, she said: Mr. Heuermann never accompanied them.

“He never came with them,” she said. “I’m not sure what that says about them.”

[RH’s wife] looked depressed, Ms. Salmeri said, and the family often paid with food stamps, unusual at this store.

[…]

The Mustos, like other neighbors, called Mr. Heuermann’s family reclusive and enigmatic. On a tight-knit block, they did not socialize. Their unkempt house stood out almost as an extension of their nature.

To Ms. Musto, [RH’s wife] did not seem concerned with appearances either. “It could be middle of the afternoon and she looked like she just rolled out of bed,” she said.

I’m friendly with everybody around here but she didn’t talk to anyone,” Ms. Musto said.
The food stamp thing is stupid. They stopped making them in the late 80's I think ,so the store should not have been taking them . They could be refering to the EBT card as the goverment issues deposits for that ,but the mintue you said food stamps ,it sounded like BS. Sometime semantics matter. Sometimes they dont. In this case we dont know because ,well our county is being run by people who painted those stamps..

Re the food stamps, in NYS if any child resident in the house is disabled and an adult, he would automatically receive food stamps and certain other benefits. Even if the parents are wealthy this would still happen as it is based on the adult child's income. That said, it is very difficult to game the disability system here and it helps many people very much in need.
I wonder how many more times this q will be answered in the thread.. do people just blindly post without reading any of the thread?

Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann had just one chilling question for jail officials following his arrest last week, it has been revealed.

As the 59-year-old married father-of-two was processed into Suffolk County Jail on a string of murder charges, sources told CNN he was curious about his newfound notoriety.

“Is it in the news?” he asked.

Yeah, they would have put food and water in the trap, so that when the cat got hungry and thirsty enough to venture out of hiding, they would go inside and the gate would shut behind them. 'Trap' sounds scary and violent, and yeah, they do startle when the gate shuts, but it doesn't hurt them at all, just contains them. And then they can safely be removed from that environment and taken to their owner, to a shelter, foster carer, or boarding facility, or to a vet if they want to make sure their condition is okay.

I think every LE department worth their salt has good animal rescue people on speed dial. The animals are not the bad guys, here, and cops are just as likely to be folks who love animals as the rest of us. They want that cat to be safe and out of that environment as much as we do. And let's face it, wrangling animals is a specialist skill not all of us have. A friendly dog, maybe? But what about a python? What about a territorial goat or goose? You can't just shoot your way through, that reads terribly on the evening news, so you ring up your animal person and let them know you've got a live one, and please, can they wrangle the goose because it chased you over a fence and your buddy is laughing at you.

(Okay, so the goose idea is a bit silly, but geese are scary. Ever been chased by one? Those so-and-sos hate everything, but especially people.)

MOO

Authorities said at the time of Heuermann's arrest on Friday, the vehicle was located in South Carolina and is linked to the investigation.

Heuermann purchased four lots along Rippling Brooke Drive in Chester in 2021.

Authorities in Nevada are also investigating a connection between the accused Long Island serial killer and Las Vegas.

"We are aware of Rex Heuermann's connection to Las Vegas," the Las Vegas Metro PD said in a statement this afternoon. "We are currently reviewing our unsolved cases to see if he has any involvement."

Investigators in Tyvek suits photograph a house.

Investigators outside Rex Heuermann’s home in Massapequa Park.

As the news of Rex Heuermann’s arrest in the Gilgo Beach murders rippled through his Long Island neighborhood, shock gave way to questions about another person in the rundown red house.

“I guess people don’t expect a serial killer to be married,” said Frankie Musto, who lives two houses away from Mr. Heuermann in Massapequa Park, a bedroom community an hour from Midtown Manhattan.
