I can't wrap my head around this claim by the defense.
Anyone?

"In a rebuttal filed Monday, Heuermann defense attorney Sabato Caponi attacked the prosecution's basis for receiving warrants to access Heuermann's computer and phones as "pure speculation," saying there is no evidence linking Heuermann to any of the burner phones used to contact the victims."

Very informative video with many references to RH.
@17:00 Josh asks about the phone records, phones and cell pings.
Right before that is the Avalanche.

"On this episode of Sinister, Josh sits down with Lost Girls author Bob Kolker to pull apart the decisions, missteps and power games that let a serial killer hunt in plain sight.Kolker walks us through the following:✅ The Chevy Avalanche tip from Dave Schaller, why it mattered, and how it fell to the bottom of the file.✅ How Suffolk County resisted the FBI’s cell phone and tower analysis, including early Massapequa clues...more.

Once you toss something into a public garbage receptacle it's considered abandoned property so I don't get where the defense is coming from with this "privacy laws" violation.
imo

"Prosecutors have argued state Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei should deny all of the defense's requests, including for the judge to throw out DNA evidence linking Heuermann to the killings because it was first discovered on a discarded pizza box and therefore allegedly violated privacy laws."
Actually, I do kinda get where they are coming from in general, although not in this case in particular.

For example, as the tech gets cheaper, do we want the govt or a company to be allowed to just keep a data base of who throws out stuff anywhere without a warrant?

I would think there is room for setting parameters to check the DNA on discarded things. I don't think we want a world where ICE, for instance, could start testing spit from discarded beer cans that were in the hands of people they deemed suspicious.

On the other hand, Rex was being followed because he was a very viable suspect of murder. That strikes me as a good reason to do what was done.

MOO

I like how Josh and his guests bring so many aspects of this case to light in their discussions.
Also that many small details are discussed.

"On this live episode of Sinister, Josh and Joe Giacalone‪@TrueCrimeWithTheSarge‬ break down Rex Heuermann’s Pretrial Hearing – Part 2, examining what unfolded in court and what it signals as the case moves closer to trial.Pretrial hearings may not grab headlines, but they are crucial in shaping the trial. In this live conversation, Josh and Joe discuss the key moments from the hearing, what stood out legally and procedurally, and how recent developments could impact the prosecution and defense moving forward. They’ll also explore one of the biggest questions hanging over the case: what if there’s a plea deal?
The discussion looks at when plea negotiations typically happen, what factors might push either side toward an agreement, and what a plea would mean for victims, families, and the broader search for accountability. As always, they’ll answer viewer questions and talk through what’s next on the horizon — from evidence battles to timeline expectations — and where the case stands right now.'

Family members of women whose remains were found near Gilgo Beach have been notified that alleged serial killer Rex A. Heuermann is expected to plead guilty next month, relatives told Newsday.

The Massapequa Park architect, accused of killing seven women in a case that has haunted Long Island for more than a decade, is expected to change his plea during a scheduled appearance April 8, the family members said. Details of the expected plea agreement have not been disclosed and the deal could still fall through for a range of reasons, including second thoughts by Heuermann and the prosecutor, or the judge could refuse to sign off.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney and defense attorney Michael J. Brown declined to comment on the anticipated guilty plea when contacted by Newsday this week…

If Heuermann does change his plea April 8, Mazzei would then schedule sentencing for a later date

I had expected this per my earlier post, having to sit in court and have all his sexual proclivities revealed, all his internet searches, what the state was going to reveal about what they found in his home and what they would reveal he did to his victims IMO was not something he would ever have sat through, I don't think he ever intended to go to trial, he was just hoping to get something (and we know not what) in exchange for a plea,

I think some serial killers like to keep there secrets and others like BTK (even though he pled G) like to reveal everything, RH to me has an elevated opinion of himself, and all the seedy, revolting things that would have been revealed at trial would have meant the world got to see the true RH, warts and all and IMO that was not something he would ever have been prepared for

Yes, I remember your post saying that he would plead guilty.
I replied that I was on the fence then mused both options for him, guilty plea or trial.

Thanks for this breaking news.
I am somewhat surprised especially since he could have milked the litigation for many more months and remained in the Suffolk jail and avoid prison.
Curious how his attorney Brown is taking this because besides him saying that his client, RH, claims his innocence Brown has said that he too believes RH is innocent.
Now, enter Asa who vehemently defended her husband and then when he became her ex-husband.
imo

Will he do it? A source close to the #RexHeuermann case says the accused #GilgoBeach serial killer will plead #guilty to murdering multiple women during his next court appearance April 8th. Newsday reports victims’ families notified. File Photo: James Carbone

What does this mean though?
Not all 7 women?
Maybe 5 women and not Jessica Taylor in 2003 and Sandra Costilla in 1993?
imo

"will plead #guilty to murdering multiple women"

Oh man, I'd love to know why he's doing it. There's a serious and substantive angle to it somewhere for him, jmo. I'm not enough of a legal person to know exactly what it is. But I bet it gets into legalities and technicalities-- big stakes level-- because if we were dealing with raw emotion, we see how this person "expresses himself."

The 1920s building code side of him has fully entered the room, jmo.

It'll be good to see all of his many talents firmly in a cell, lock the door and throw away the key. And let me tell you, that prison's in much better shape than that ramshackle Green Acres mess he had going on before, but jmo.

You're welcome, Rex!

I'm guessing Rex is taking a plea bc there's more bodies to be found so to speak....he used to work summers at Jones Beach so there's a strong link between him and his "dumping ground"

  • #140
I he does go thru with his plea deal I hope the victims' families have an opportunity to speak and address him
